If it just for fun get some 2nd hand semi slick from the likes of formula ford type classes that dont use them too much before they put on a new set.
This is what I did previously and its the cheapest thing you can do to drop your times.
Think ahead though...if your considering upgrading your brakes to something that will need bigger than 13" rims, best to buy accordingly.

What Rhys said and go Volvo 4 pots to stay with the 13"s to save $. I've got them with Ferodo DS2000 pads (nothing hugely special) and they were brilliant at a recent track day.
Keep your 205's on the dragways and just get another set of 13" rims for the track - 13" alloys are pretty cheap nowadays on ebay etc

ive got a set of saab 15" sunburst rims, nothing fancy, but they do the job and they go relatively cheap, i paid $200 for mine in decent nick, but ive seen some go for $25 a rim, fit standard studs, and heaps of room for bigger brakes~!

If you want some decent semi slicks and can afford them, then I have had great experience with the Toyo R888's. At $220 each they're not cheap but oh so worth it on the track.

My father knocked two seconds off his best lap around lakeside with some Toyo 888's. When you can push the tread with your finger, you know they will not last long. I doubt Escort axles will handle any circle work with them on. especially with larger diameter wheels.

You can often pick up Yokohama A048's cheap second hand in 205/60/13 because they are the control tyre for the Aussie Racing Car series. they even pop up on Ebay from time to time.

I can get some 2nd hand formula ford race slicks that will fit on a 13 inch rim, at a good price if you like. Then just need to get them to you. From memory, 205,560, 13's i think.

Only issue with the formula ford slicks is that many sprints will automatically put you in a full race car type class.
This wont happen with "R" spec tyres

depends on what you want them for ( street use, racing only ). as others have said, Formula Ford tyres. i used to have a set of F/F AVON racing tyres ( had formula ford on the side wall ) and they were awesome! from memory cost $200 and they came on a set of 13" custom or Formula Ford 12 slotters and looked like this: wish i never got rid of them but they went with the car when it was sold!
