Cossie water fittings/lines
Can anyone out there help with the location of water lines to/from the turbo on a YB?
They dont go "in-line" with the heater circuit do they?
Do you install a couple of extra fittings in the water pump and radiator top tank to feed the turbs?
Cheers Ash

From the small pipe on the thermostat housing to the turbo and then return to the expansion (header) tank.
Some good info here;

Thanks Lincoln.
When you say "expansion (header)" tank, do you mean the top tank of the radiator, or do you mean the seperate expansion tank that sierras have? I am installing in a Mk2 with a Gp4 style alloy rad, so had no intention of using a seperate "expansion" tank. Taking the feed from the thermo housing and then returning to the rad top tank seems like it would be taking hot water from both. Dont I need a cold feed and a hot return?
Cheers.

I mean a seperate expansion tank.
The expansion tank is like the top of the radiator anyway (in flow terms - however it use is to increase the capacity and bleed the air out of the system continously). The feed from the 4wd thermo housing to the turbo is a mix from the cold and hot side when the thermostat is open. From the hot side only when closed (iirc).
Do you have a 2wd thermostat housing? It has a small take off from it pre the thermostat so water still circulates when the stat is closed. What water pump are you using 2wd or 4wd?

Also the function of water through the turbo is more to do with bringing the bearings up to temp quicker that cooling the turbo.
In effect - a turbo warmer - you do not want cold water going to the turbo.
Some touring cars ran without water connected.
Talking Garret turbo's. T series (plain bearing) do not need water connected. GT series turbo's however need the water connected.

I have just changed from a T3 plain to a GT on my pinto, hence the questions about where the water flows on a YB - I thought that emulating that would be the way to go.
Thermo housing is standard pinto, but easy enough to modify to accept extra water outlet's to make it similar to YB..... until you mentioned that the feed is from a point taken before the thermostat :(
Maybe I should just tee it off the heater pipes then.
Thanks for your help.

Out of the thermostat housing and into the turbo, out of the turbo and into the radiator top tank. -6 lines are a good size...

Guys, what's the difference between pinto and YB 4WD water pumps?
YB 2WD seem to be the same as pinto (and similar price), but 4wd is much dearer?
Do they flow better, or do they just have an extra outlet?

so if your not running an alloy radiator and i wanted to run dash 6 braided lines, i think weld on dash fittings only come in stainless and alloy ? so can stainless be welded/brazed to a radiator (i think the tanks are copper or brass ) ?

Where's that bottom line going Ty? To the side of the thermostat housing?
