Removing Steering rack

Im having a little trouble removing my steering rack so i can put my new 2.4 in.do you have to remove the oil filter to get to the top bolt on the rack mount? i am trying to avoid that if i can. The top bolts are unpleasant individuals to get to especially with those dam washers [:(!]

Cheers,
Rhys

Take the filter off, swap ur rack then replace filter, might lose a few drops of oil but saves hrs of grief !!

Im about due for a oil change anyway. Once i get the 4 bolts undone and the mounts off, what's next? is there somthing else that needs undoing besides the rack ends.

Undo both sections, top and bottom collar as the one you undo is always the one that is stuck. At least that way you have twice the chance!! WD40 and somtimes a pry bar to get them apart slightly can help if they are stuck, or some help with a soft hammer...

All you need to undo is the 4 bolts to the crossmember, the rack ends and the steering colomn.. It should fall down and smack you then.

undo the nyloc nut on the top of the joint, that holds the joint onto the shaft. you need to pull the bolt all the way out as well. and also the same bolt on the other side of the shaft. and remove the bolt all the way again.
