Door mirror spacers

I'm trying to track down some door mirror spacers - the ones that fit between the mirror and the door on the XA/B/C Falcon type mirrors. I'm fairly sure I found one but need to confirm it is correct and which side it fits.
The part number is 70EA-17725-AAW.

Can somebody confirm if this is a Capri spacer and what the part number is for the other side?

Cheers,

Steve

    Hi Steve,

I'm not sure if you've seen this, as the parts numbers quoted are similar:
    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-Escort-Cortina-Capri-Mirror-Bases-N-O-S_W0QQitemZ300398435633QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item45f1245d31

The capri parts book shows part number JJ 17725 AA as a LH door mirror gasket for a '72 model, and there is no other listing which contains 17725 AA. The number for the RH gasket is JJ 17724 AB. The book lists a spacer for a '72 style mirror as a JJ 17A688 AB with no specific number for left or right, just saying you need two, but I don't think it's the spacer we're talking about.

I have an XA/B/C style mirror on my 1600 Capri, and the spacer is the correct one. It looks to be thinner than the Cortina style shown in the ebay listing. I also have some I was told were taken from an Escort, the RH one having the part number 71AA 17724 AAW.

Hope this helps in some way.

    Cheers

    Hi Jamie,

I did see the Ebay link. From what you have told me, I reckon the middle section of the part number must define the model and side. Thanks for the info!
My assumption now is that 17725 is Capri LH and 17724 is Capri RH.
I'm told that the mirrors originally came with a bag of about 6 different kinds of spacers and the bag had its own part number as well.

So what I need now is a drivers side mirror spacer - can anybody help me out?

    Cheers,

    Steve.

These mirrors used to come in a box with 3 spacers per side so you could pick and choose to suit different applications. MK2 Escorts use quite a thick spacer. The Capri used the thinest of them. I called in to GT Ford Performance near the airport and they have a box of assorted used spacers, IIRC they charged me $10 for the spacer, it's about 3mm thick

    Thanks John

GT Ford Performance is where I picked up my left spacer. The box of assorted spacers they had now only contains 2 and they aren't to suit a Capri - I got the last one . They aren't $10 anymore either, no surprises there!!!!

    Hi Steve,

I'll keep an eye out for a drivers side spacer when I'm next going through the spares I have, as I know I have a drivers mirror but can't remember if there is a spacer on it.

In regards to part numbers, I think that 17725 would be XA/B/C mirror spacer LH and 17724 mirror spacer RH. They would be Capri ones with the prefix of JJ or possibly something like 72EB. Not sure about 70EA, if you posted a picture of the spacer you have I'm sure someone could say if it was the correct thickness. Like John has said, they are quite thin on the outer side when fitted.

    Cheers

Steve, I actually cut down (sliced) a pair of Escort ones to make my mirrors sit right. I did buy all the bits from Edgar at Fjord Four in Mordialloc some years ago if that helps. Tel

Jamie, if you find one and are willing to part with it, please let me know

Terry, yes I may have to resort to trimming one down. Easier said than done to get it looking right, but when you have no alternative.....

    Cheers,

    Steve
