Thoughts on std 2lt airfilter flow performance

Thoughts on std 2lt airfilter flow performance

Has anyone ever bothered to do research on the flow characteristics of using a standard plastic airfilter on a 2lt? Say in comparison to the Ramflo type element?

What about little cutouts underneath on outside of filter section (so air still has to pass through filter)?
Would this improve things?

Theres possibility to run a 350 Holley under them without giving too much away or just for the standard look on a decent spec motor (for various reasons).

I can probably pre-empt the replies, but if anyone has looked into this before I'm keen to hear your feedback?

    Air filter case [NB US Pinto airfilter case] (page 64)
    With case and filter - 199cfm
    With case and no filter - 200.5cfm
    With case & filter 1/4 taller (1/4gap between case & lid) 220cfm

    Airfilters efficiency (page 63 & 64)
    Motorcraft paper 99.2%
    Fram 99.2%
    AC 97.2%

    Airfliters efficency on 350cfm Holley
    8" case foam 92.2%
    9" K&N no measurable loss

    Standard manifold - 93% efficient (page 67)

    Std Carb 122hp
    350cfm 128hp

    both at 5k rpm

    Thanks for your help James.

    So far Im running a 38DGAS but have the option of a 350 or 390 Holley. 350 can sit under std filter looking quite standard.

    I also have a set of twin 40's but I'm really hopefully to get performance and driveability out of a 38DGAS with standard air cleaner for the standard look as the twin 40's won't pass ADR requirements.
