Mk2 Escort 2dr C pillar sections

Hi All

Does anyone know the where abouts of a decent Mk2 2dr shell (preferably SA) to donate it's exteral "C" pillar sections? I need to replace these sections on my RS.

Steve Ford has just replaced the same sections and I have borrowed one of his images below for clarification (hope you don't mind?).

Please let me know if you can assist

    Hello Paul,

Best option is to beat these yourself and make new ones from sheet metal.

Why kill a good 2 door body shell that is probably rusty anyway?

Buy (or beg/borrow) some 1mm sheet metal offcut (not galvanised!) from your local sheetmetal shop and make them yourself.

If you don't have panel beating skills it may take a few attempts to get it right. If you don't succeed the first time, try again. Even if it doesn't work the first time you haven't damaged the bodyshell itself.

There is no reason that you cannot make these yourself with only a small peaning hammer, a hack saw, block of wood (to use as a buck), and half an hour each side.

Is easily doable without bog if done properly. The c pillar section of the car is strong because of it's shapes and curves, so buckling will be minimal. Also the luxury of being able to get behind the pillars from inside the boot and inside the cavity beside the rear seat.

Let us all know if you are interested. Good experiment and you will learn a lot.

I will happily talk you through it on the forum if you would like!

    I Pete.

Honestly I doubt I will find a decent shell anyhow and making them from scratch has crossed my mind. I don't doubt I can fabricate but from a simplicity stand point cutting from a shell would be easier

Will post in my thread as I go which ever way I choose.

I agree with PeterM, all that time scratching at breakers yards looking for the 'less rusty' rust panel could have been spent in the shed grafting up a new piece. I made 1 for my mk2 some 14yrs ago with limited knowlage using 2mm(!) and was Arc welded in(!!), it still there good as gold
    give it a go mate
