New competition car... also not a FORD

Ok, was inspired by the positive comments in a similar thread so I decided to let the cat out of the bag about this....

Bought it at the right price and its the "right tool for the job" when it comes to drifting, initially looked at it just to get the running gear and stick it in a escort that I already have caged etc, saying that I have already spent twice what it cost in upgrades, which I am still waiting to arrive in the post.

I have attempted drifting in my supercharged MK1 escort but really was'nt the right car for the job without spending a lot more money and time on suspension and engine. The S13 can drift straight out of the box better than my escort could and will make it easier to learn, plus there is a big following up here for drifting and lots of expertise to call upon for car setup.

I know its not too everyone's tastes (not really mine either) but with a 6 Cylinder Turbo, Injected, 4 Wheel Disc, Independant Rear, LSD,5 Speed you can't beat it bang for buck. It's still looking and driving very average (line of previous P plate owners) but will start work next week once I get the rego on my RS this week.

Ben.

Forgot to say the series I am competing in this year is the "Stadium Drift" Series, 6 rounds (2NSW/4QLD) with invitation to the top 8 amateurs (level 2) drivers to Indy (or whatever they call it this year). Starts in my home town Tamworth on 20th March, and over the course of the series get to do some high speed (read scary) drift at Wakefield and Queensland Raceway !

    Pumped and keen to learn.

The RB25 is such a good motor and so easy to wring HP out of. No doubt you'll have loads of fun in this little thing.

Sideways at speed with turbo power is always fun, no matter what the car.

Have fun, I'm sure you will....

Wait, you were planning on throwing the running gear in the escort?[%]

    I like it.

Lovin the positive comments guys !

digginganddirt - some projects take longer than others feel your pain there
Ty - just gonna take it step by step, got 2 slower events first up and a practise day, THEN wakefield will be similar to QR as far as speed goes, planning to fit a weld in cage before that, picking up on suspension in front and back.
Juiceman - thats the plan didn't buy it to fit in with the P plate crowd
escortinadriver - have a caged MK1 shell and either a transaxle or nissan box and couier diff have both, but cheaper to learn as it is then start a big build once I have buggered this silvia
Whooli - think my son is simulating the first time I drift above 100kph

    Ben.
PS, RS needed a couple of easy fixes for rego today so off to the garage so that I can get the pinky Saturday morning. Need to make space in the workshop to bring S13 in.

im not a hater just joking around. good luck with it mate, i wish i had somewhere local that wasn't gravel, so i could practice my slidin'

i do laps in my brick driveway when its raining, ive gotten pretty good at it, but the speedo never reads above 70ish. let alone the actual speed im moving at.

Yeah had met some drifters many years ago when it was just getting going in Sydney and was pretty amazed when they talked about pulling on the handbrake at 140kph ! then watching the jap series on TV saw entry speed off the main straight was 110mph !!! thats before the wheels start spinning. I like the price, I have never competeted in a series before and the guys that are involved just have the right attitude... good guys all keen to help, they had a visit from the CAMS bloke at their last event and even he reckoned there were a lot of clubs that could take a leaf out of RACELINE's book on how to run an event. So bring on the sideways smokey action.

Update, first practice day coming up next weekend, alignment in the morning and exhaust on by Wednesday a few bits to tidy up.

I have all the bars repaired and painted not putting them on til real competition can run without in practice.

    Here it is in action

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtwWP1uyHZE 2nd vid is last years winner of amateur championship for comparison.

Was AWESOME fun Sterling, had a few little things to sort like charging and running hot, so have got some rewiring and new radiator/fans to get fitted before next weekend.

    Back to the shed.
