do they bake the head first? I've been instructed by Escort Road and Race that the only right way to do it is bake the head in an oven...
I'll definately check it out at Stirlings, have heard about them before too.
oh.. and while I'm reminded of it... The single barrel carby for the 1300, does that have a manual choke or a hot water one? Would like to keep a hot water choke as it works well in the 2L I have now.

I'm taking my sweet ass time to get these pistons done. I needed to go back to work to get some money... blasted money. After work I've been scratching away at the carbon buildup after removing the old rings from the pistons. Done three, one to go. Really looking forward to getting the pistons back in, then closing the sump back up. Yes yes, I know, it should go on later once all the timing gear is sorted out. I'm not sure if I need a new timing chain, the play doesn't appear to be too much and the dizzy rotor only has leway in the opposite direction to which it would turn. I'm not sure that the dizzy cap that came with the dizzy is the right one though...

I've taken a short break from restoring to doing up fictional vehicles in Need For Speed Underground 2.... if you don't have this game and have played the first underground, loved that... then you NEED to go get Underground 2 immediately!!!
They have a GTO!!! they call it a Pontiac GTO cause surprise surprise that's what the Holdn GTO is marketed as over there.... but yeah.
I'm actually building my career around an old AE86 Corolla.... they have the Hachi Roku!!! *giggles*

$149 later and my 1300 puny rocker cover is all nice and shiney show condition chrome with a chrome breather cap [:u][:x)]  looks really good for a 30 year old rocker cover. I know there are still a few things I need to do before I would even think about putting a rocker cover back on.... but hey.. it looks really nice and I don't know how long I'll have money for. I still have to get the head done for unleaded, but I need a bit of time for that.... *grumbles* or I could get someone to take it in for me... or something. The flywheel may turn out to be expensive.... I'll need advice on getting that re-ringed. One bloke suggested taking the ring gear off, turning it around, then putting it back on. I don't like him anymore. The stress of heating it to expand it and take it off.... then reheating it and putting it back on with already damaged teeth makes me think that I'm going to be ripping that engine out way too soon. I'll do a round of the wreckers... see if they have one... they may do... they would keep one if it is pretty good condition, which means it would be better than mine. Very strange, everything in this engine appears great condition for it's age. I KNOW it's had an engine job done before because the Pistons are from REPCO!!!! I think they must have just reused the flywheel and ring gear. Definately getting changed this rebuild though. I'm not risking all my effort for something that won't start because the starter motor wont' engage the totally screwed flywheel.... no-sir-ree-bob!

ok. Basically, it all waits for the head to be done, when I get a chance.. this SATURDAY!! WOOHOO! one week before Christmas and I will take it to Sterling Engines in Rocko and get then to quote on converting and replacing the valves. Once the head is done, the engine is besically ready (excluding flywheel) and I will put all the peripherals (water pump etc etc) back in and take some finalised happy snaps. Everybody will then be able to see what I'm so happy about, finally... :) Not Long now and the engine will be sitting in my shed all ready to be fitted [:x)][:x)][:x)]

Stirlings would shut down over the chrissy break wouldn't they, and I'm back working now so I can't take it in to them.. oh bother. They don't open Saturdays either.... sods.. lol I poked holes in the floor of my escy today. The front passenger foot well would be best fixed by cutting the entire section out and replacing. There is plenty of sill and lip left around the edges to weld the new floor too. Other than one or two minor holes in the rest of the floor it is in pretty damn good condition. The left hand front fender however... where can I get a new one? lol It will most likely be easiest to rip that rusty old thing off and replace it with a new one. Anybody know a good place to get the panel?

okay.. get this.. Stirling Engine Reconditioning in Rockingham no longer recondition heads.... they sold their machine. Loverly aint it?
Anyway.. All Torque Engineering in Bibra Lake can do it for me for $325 complete including GST. Aparently Escort Road and Race use them for all their stuff.
they sound reasonable.
secondly I have more pictures!
I have started to strip the interior whilst waiting for more funding...

ALRIGHTY THEN!
forgive me fans for I have sinned.... It has been way too long since I last worked on my Mk1
My money and time has unfortunately been taken away by a computer. How a computer came between me and my car I don't know. I now have a part time job.. so less money.. but more time. I still have to get the head recondition to be ready for unleaded. I've left the engine for so long it probably needs to be overhauled again [8~2]
I Promise... by the end of this year.. The 2L pinto will be OUT of the car... and so will the auto trans. Whether the new engine and manual trans is in the car however is a different matter, and I can't promise anything. There is a LOT of body work to be done once the drivetrain has been removed.
I think I'll need to completely replace the brakes, I may actually put discs on the back instead. Nobody will see them so asthetically it will still be original. Of course the extractors will make it look a little less original.
So... three hail Fords and I'm forgiven?

Hah, I'm the same. Been a fair while since I did anything on my project. I still can't even decide what engine I want. And I don't want to paint it until I get the engine dummy fitted. [B)] Being broke, and with work and school taking up all my time doesn't help either. [:p] Oh well, they'll both be done some day.

LOL, if I could sell the rust, I could fund the resto project. Recently my credit card has taken a beating, with a new power steering pump required for my daily driver (VT commodore) coming to $450, and I stupidly went and had my eyes tested again (been over 2 years) and as I knew I had to, got new glasses. There goes another $400. While working part time is great for working on cars, the lack of money isn't. The weather has also only just started clearing and my computer decided to blow a power supply. That burned out one of my hard drives and cost me another $300. Meanwhile my chrome rocker cover is getting surface rust... [8~2]
I WILL get this Mk1 beauty back on the road... I WILL!!!!!

SHAMELESS BUMP
Yes.. I'm still here.. and guess what.. SO IS MY ESCY! While I haven't done any more work on her *which I should be murdered for* I HAVEN'T given up!
I've recently come into posession of some more money, working a second summer job is great. I've managed to purchase a replacement part for my decrepid computer, which still isn't working, but that's a software problem now..... Also I've begun bidding for Escort parts on Ebay... 22kg of them in one instance. That's gonna cost more in courier than the parts themselves.
One of these days, I AM going to take the head to a reconditioner... then I shall put it on the block and see if everything still turns!
I still need a clutch assembly, (fork excluded-got that at least I think it's the right fork, it doesn't seem to want to fit in anyway.... perhaps they gave me the wrong fork with the gearbox.....), and I still need a new manual pedal box. Then I need to get working on that blasted body, cut out all the rust is a good start. Then treat the thing and cover it up, at least that way any more rust will be easily seen and removable when I next get a chance to continue the project.
Poor Nelly, it will be her 35th birthday before she may grace the roads with her presence again. I suck. [:-(][8~2]
Edit: Oh yeah.. my fudging expensive chrome rocker cover... is beginning to rust. I'm hoping it's only surface rust, cause I am going to be mighty peeved if it isn't.
