MK2 Cortina Wiper Motor

Is there a diffrence in a 2 speed and a single speed wiper motor or is the diffrence just the switch?
I dont know much about wiper setups, I have heard of some MK2 Cortina`s having 2 speed wipers andI would like these on my car.
If it is a diffrent motor as well as switch does anyone have a 2 speed setup they want to sell?
Any help with sorting thei out for me would be greatly Appreciated.
Thanks
Raymond

    Hi Raymond

Late model UK Mk2s had a 2 speed wiper. The switch has three positions (off. on, fast) and the motor is different. I assume the loom is also slightly different also to include the second speed wire. I guess the motor would have to be different as well.

If you're Sydney based you'd be welcome to have a look at my setup to see how it compares to local ones, which, as far as I'm aware, never had a 2 speed option.

Your best bet to upgrade would be to purchase a motor and switch from UK, maybe on ebay. The rest should be pretty straightforward

converting escort mk2 wiper motors into the cortina arms is pretty straight forward

but you will need to get a 2 speed wiper switch

these can be bought from a auto electrician

only switches designed for wipers can be used due to the parking mechanism

hi guys haven't been around much lately
    thought id add my 2c
not sure how late uk mk2 robert was talking about but as you may or not know the uk mk2 production stopped in 1970 ,mine is a uk late 69 model and still had a single speed (if you could call it speed) it was very slow so i had an auto elec come up with a solution .....escort? well at least he claimed it was ,now ive got too slow and too fast which is a pain in the bum at times really. anyone got a better solution while mines stripped down ,it would be great to be able to put it in while theres nothing in the way
( series 2 gt folks will understand what i mean by that)
    cheers ..sil

Hmm good point. Both of mine are Lotuses (Loti?) so they may not be representative. I'd say a late 1600E would surely have 2 speeds? So you'll need motor and switch. These come up on ebay quite often

i converted my mk1 cortina to 2 speed using a late mk1 escort motor, if your 2nd speed is too fast you could try a resistor to try slow it down
