another project mk2

well after my old 2 door left me abruptly earlier this year i have been eager to get back into it.

i bought this 79 2 door about 5 months ago. plan is to make some good power out the kent and have it setup mainlny for the track.

this is a couple days after i bought it

first thing in the list. coilovers for the front
i had never made my own before but decided to give it a bash. pretty easy as long as you think about what you are doing.

so these are running gaz adjustables, adjustable tops and vented brake upgrade.

also got some adjustables for the rear. good fun

tranx lsd was next to go in

about to do a disc brake conversion for the rear as soon as stock arrives.

next is the engine

she is stripped down to a bare block now
plan is
twin 40's
alloy head
cam kit
forged pistons
balanced crank
roller rockers
lightened flywheel
extractors
electronic dizzy
electronic fuel pump.

should be good for some power

also got an adjustable bias pedal box coming on its way.

so at the moment
coilover front with adjustabe strut tops, adjustable shockers and vented brake upgrade.
adjustable shocks on the rear
tranx lsd
2.4 turn quick rack
quick shifter

coming up

full engine rebuild
disc brake rear
paint and interior (still undecided on what direction i will take)
possible cage and 5 speed box (still undecided)

cheers

Nice work. Are you going to flare the ends of the pipes yourself?

i managed to fit in a few hours work today.

got the engine bay mostly cleared. im thinking i will relocate the battery into the boot so i can cut out the battery tray in the engine bay.

    just needs prep and paint

and made a start on stripping the interior ( looks more like a big mess though at the moment)will most probably be making a custom center dash with all the gauges and switches ect

the block is compleatly stripped now and will be going out for machining very soon.

You have some nice parts in the first order there. How far are you going to strip back the shell?

well after i pulled all the carpet up and got most of the dash out i was pleasantly surprised to see no rust. even after taking the heater box out and having a good suss i cant find any surface rust or any evidence of repairs plus the paint underneath still look mint :) :)

the plan is to have it mostly gutted, maby a cage further down the track.

ok so one of the guys from work is friends with a guy who runs an engine shop. i am going to get him to do the work on my block ( machining and what not) i have seen the quality of work he does and its good.

anyway he has suggested using a L18 or L20 nissan crank as they are forged from factory. i will need to talk to him more about it and do some research but from what ive read there are a few people who have done it.

from what i understand it will increase the stroke of the piston basically giving more capacity.

i haven't made my mind up at all yet but it is a very interesting idea considering a good crrank for the kent is about 3k and you could probably do this one for under 2.

    hmmm interesting hey
