Mk1 escort 2door shells- What's the difference?

I read on a webpage recently that stated there are different types of Mk1 2door escort shells. Can someone explain the differences for me please? One is meant to be more sought after or somethin?

    Standard and Type 49.

From memory the Standard was UK only, with all Aus type 49.

Type 49 was a stronger 'export' shell with strut tower gussets, Strut plates, etc. I believe that the Twin Cam, RS2000 & Mexico used these shells with different front guards (wider flare), rear radius rods, etc.

    Cheers

There are quite a few differences in the standard shells though....

Early and late model, auto and manual etc...

The best of the 'standard' is an auto 75 shell. (late model, upright shocks, high back seats and large tunnel)

I agree with Shaun, A 74-75 auto prefered for the 2x main reasons, 1, bigger tunnel to install most gearboxes, inc Celica without reshaping tunnel;, 2, rear shockers are more vertical, ie mk2 style.
I have noticed that the later models got more spotwelds along the chassis and engine compartment/ strut towers etc.
My car is a 72 auto shell which had 45deg inclined rear shocks, i fitted turrets so the shock problem was eliminated, as well i seam welded the shell to GP4 standards.
If you find a late 75 model the chassis code will be CK44 RSxxxxxxx, handy if doing an RS replica !

So the 68-74 auto tunnels are smaller than 74/75?
