Mexico stripes are too fussy. Keep plain if you are using it for competition because your paint is going to come in for a hiding. You could always photoshopsome ideas.

The base colour will be white. There will also be the standard window blackouts and the UK RS rear end blackout. Plus some green. I just can't figure out exactly which bits will be green. It'll probably be a fairly simple design as this will be my first go at painting a car.

Hello Steve, I noticed that your thread had fallen over the edge. Just thought that I would bump it back to the top.

Thanks Peter. Unfortunately there's bugger all to report at the moment. I'm still waiting for the front brake setup, painting has been on hold due to household and golfing commitments and i'm still finalising the engine.
I'll hopefully have some updates next week.

Righto. Actual work. I had to move just about everything I own to get the new Mk2 from the front yard to the back so i decided to pose things for a few pics. The new one is a 1977 1.6 L 2 door. Very little rust and should make a good basis for project #2. Here's the rear firewall complete with seam sealer. And here's the start of bogging up the car to get the repaired sections nice and flat for painting. She'll be white with a touch of green and black when finished.

Hey Steve. Lovin the archs. I know its a long shot but I thought i would ask, The full chrome bumpers on the '77, Is there a price you would part with them for? The font one looks in great condition. I understand that you probs want to keep em, they are hard to find.
Anyways love'n the work. Will look great when its done. Cheers JCB

I'll keep the spare as a whole for the time being. I'm still not sure what it'll end up being. More pics. Here's the interior shot of the rear firewall. And here it is again covered with stone chip.

Looking good there steve... Second cars are always handy for when the first one gets a canary...... For a second there, I thought you'd knocked out a wall and taken over the neighbours garage.. Shaun

Having the right bit of paper from the engineer should hopefully avoid any bird problems if i go down the road of full road rego. The second car is very close to roadworthy as it is so i'm now tossing up which way to go with both. It's nice to have options.

The last two days have seen the car go from mainly grey to white. It's still in filler coat at the moment so no pics. Guide coat should go on tomorrow then more sanding, bogging, sanding, spraying, sanding etc. to go over the next couple of weeks. It won't be the best paint job ever but it is fun doing it yourself.

Hey Steve
Where are you planning to paint the top coat? I hired the booth at the body shop to do the RS. Rhys and the guys were really helpful too.
You will be hard pressed to get a good job if you paint it at home in this cold weather!

That's the plan. I'm doing all the boring sanding bits at home with the final coat going on in a booth. Might have to borrow a car trailer off someone to do it though... I've also got two panel shops within walking distance of here. Might get a quote for a final paint job from them.

Hehe. Not quite. I don't really do much driving as work is a 15 minute walk from home. The second one came up at a good price and it'll be handy as a spare shell if i bend the current one.
