MK2 CA18DET

hey there. yes im a newbie, so hello to everyone. Im currently building a mk2 4 door just to be a little different,... it is being built for the track although i will be running it road registered., so far, i have 6 point cage, Holden hr brake conversion, koni suspension, hilux lsd, custom engine mounts to chassis rails, tunnel has been modified, gear lever hole has been repositioned, mounts have been fitted for buckets, and of course the ca is freshly rebuilt with ported and polished head so far. once i see the engine running, i will be upgrading turbo, injectors, throtle body, larger intercooler, and whatever else catches my eye. trying to get the last expensive things done on my conversion... it has been a long painful task. but on the weekend i finally got the engine and box bolted up and the brakes and suspension fitted in properly.

here is what i need if anyone can help me with contacts or advice.
I am chasing a flare kit and front spoiler so i can fit some decent rubber, which seems harder than i would have thought.

also, i need to know what other people have been doing with their fuel pump and fuel lines, as this conversion would be quite similar to an sr... are you using silvia or 180 lines or a full custom setup? and how many lines from the tank is there supposed to be?

Has anyone moved the handbrake before? if so, did it need to have strengthened fixing points? or is it fine bolted to the top of the tunnel in another location?

i guess this will do for now, im sure im going to have many more questions, cheers in advance.

I am in brisbane, so if anyone knows of any well priced conversion guys i would be pretty happy to just pay someone to finish it.

If the pics dont load, this link has pictures only from the last 2 months.

    Nice Silscort.
You could try Garcia's on Bribie Island, if you are after a shop that won't cost too much.
If money is no issue, go to Redcliffe Dyno.

To post picture's just copy the bottom link in Photobucket.
Keep us all updated, it looks like a great project.

    looks good buddy.
hey, I know its hard just dont give up.
if you get stuck, just ask, loads of guys here have taken on projects "like" this one, and they have all found answers.
if you finish it yourself imagine the feeling of well being and smugness you can give yourself.
pluss, the money you save, you can spend on better gofaster upgrades and sticky tyres so once built you dont have to stop half way through a season.

the fuel tank is easy, all you need for the CA18det is a feed and return.
the feed can be the standard line out of the standard tank, in through a filter then in to your pump. that way round so you dont need a pressure rated filter. the pumped fuel then goes to the engine bay, and in to the standard system on the engine. out from that is the overflow loop, this is just a straight run back to the tank.

I modified the standard escort tank by drilling and brazing an extra inlet to it. but the custom alloy job looks neat, go for it.

with the hand brake, why did you move it? doesnt the lux diff have a cable operated item? all you would have had to do is make a conversion bracket to attach the toyo cable to the ford unit?
let me know and we will think a way round it.

are you looking for plastic flares or steel ones, if its on a track there are two thoughts. steel will not come off, and if dented will be able to bash straight, or plastic that will be light weight and come off at the first hint of trouble, getting you out of the scrape (like squids legs!) suppose you have to decide.

how have you got round the brake issue, as i modified a pedal box to run the CA18DET master cylinder straight from the box, no booster, as the plenum i made is huge!

how have you got round the hydraulic clutch issue too?

now i look closer, your right about the handbrake. I have not moved it yet, i was sort of fishing for answers because i was told i would have to move it, but no, awesome, because there is still clearance between the gear shifter and brake lever. SORTED.

as far as the brakes, its set up to run the standard booster but i have a mate who is going to help with the brake lines and fuel lines next weekend at his workshop. I will let you know how it works out.

As far as the clutch goes, thinking maybe modify the silvia setup all together to fit, cant see it being to hard. Any suggestions?

And also, where do i buy these body kits from? im not that pedantic about the weight difference between steel and fibreglass, so i guess i will go the cheaper option, just wondering where they are sourced from.

    thanks heaps.
    Chris.

hey mate hows the build going? contact SMCKA on the forum here or follow the links to his website, he sells hydraulic clutch pedal with bias adjustable pedal box for mk1 and mk2, i bought one and its awesome.

GeoffWade specialises in fibreglass and has heaps of gear which should get you going with the arches and front spoiler.

how did you go about fitting the box and motor together into the bay at the same time? have you made any tunnel mods because i lowered my sr20 into the bay (without box) and it wouldn't fit without being completely level.

what intercooler and radiator setup have you chosen?
    thanks
