Could anyone suggest what tyre width and brand i could put on my 14 inch wheels, without having to fold the lip under the guards.

    Thanks.

    steve g'day,nice car/s

As for you tyres size it depends on your height you want but as a general idea, you will get 205s under the gaurds with out any dramas,Ive had 225s,on the rears with abit of work on my old rally pack, the car was fairly low.My mk2 RS currently has 195/55/15s and has yoky ao32r tyres. And sits nicely, maybe a bit low for the street,I will find out soon..

I too have 14" rims and the problem is there is not too much tyre choice. I have 185/60 and would prefer wider, but with some ringing round, I have only tracked down a 195/50/14 so it's not worth the change. Your rims look to have some dish so the 195's might do the trick.
