thanks shaun it was a good day out,
the day 'drift skills' is run by the 'Victorian Drift Club'
http://www.vicdrift.com/site/ as a beginners day aimed at learning about how to drift your own car. from memory it was about $220 for the day which included a bbq lunch. + a $50 AASA licence that can be bought on the day and is valid for 12 months.
i found decca to be a really good place to start. as for the skills day they run 3 different surfaces. a very large smooth concrete pad, a very course medium sized area that is more street surface like and a small(very small) burnout pit which is heavily rubber coated and even has gutters to hit.
also being in a controlled environment and being classed as a low speed event no helmets or cages are needed so you dont have to worry about the restrictions a helmet give with vision and head movement ( surprisingly limited in an escort with a helmet on ive found )
As for the car, i stayed true to my word ( if the gearbox survived the drift day i would change the set up to a more legal/street friendly setup ) and have fitted the car with the 15" superlites and 195 tyres.
ive swapped all my steering set up with std items so that i can 'simply' drop the rack ends and swap when i want to run the 13" setup.
but as always i ran into problems getting the 15's to fit back on the car.with the current sway bar maxxed out to minimal castor the wheels still sat too far forward on lock. With not wanting to have to change too much stuff between the two setups i made the car fit the wheels.
So i did what i do best, got the grinder out and went to town.
and now they fit again :)
as you can see the cut is about an inch or so at its greatest but isn't highly obvious to the untrained eye.
still managed to get the wheels as wide out as possible with the limits of the std steering rack arm lengths. so that made me a little more happy to run the setup.
so next in the never ending list of things to fix/do is to get the geometry sorted with the car and its new wheels, then i want to put in the rest of the cage and go racing.
