Haks Mk1 Escort project

My track car ambitions took a good turn on the weekend. Thanks to some good sleuthing work by an ASFOC member (thanks Winton!) the beaut orange mk1 4-door below is now ready to begin its transformation.

It could still take a while. It need to find time in between building sheds and houses, amusing the baby, and keeping in the good books with the wife. But at least its a *way* better starting point that the rusty red one.

It comes with a 1600 with the 32/36 weber. The bumpers and grill are in excellent condition. And the rear parcel tray is coming straight out and into Betty.

Whenever I get a chance to do some work on it I'll be updating my website with details and photos. Check it out here if you like: http://hak.gwc134.net/Cars/Bandit/bandit3.htm

The green one in the background is the car that the guy is keeping. Its a 71 (I think) 1300 Super. Its in really good nick, needs a bit of tidying around the edges, but will come up a treat. Its got the 6 dial dash, perfect low back seats, and 1300GT engine.

We asked if he wanted to sell that too, but said he might think about an offer of $10k. So we guess he's hanging onto it.

Good stuff Peter, one would think you have some time on your hands now with all your Escorts. Also does it have struts?? as the engine pic the tops seem to have disappeared [:I]

Its got struts now Michael. They weren't in when we got there, but didn't take long to stick them in. And another bonus, the struts we put in had a brand new set of Lovells lowered springs in them. The tops are stuffed, but he chucked in another set of bent struts that have good tops.

Well progress is slow (read as non-existant). We're getting ourselves started on different projects. Building on our block. The new shed is going up. We're nearly ready to start cladding it. After the shed its the new house, so looks like Escort work might have to wait for another month or 12!

I've been thinking of sticking a hoist in the middle bay. There is more than enough room. Not sure if I can just whack one in or whether I need to have extra reinforcing under the slab. There are a 4 piers under the middle so maybe it'd be ok.

g'day Ty. The guy said it was a rare Escort. Maybe he was having a lend of me

Its 9m long so I should be able to get 2 Escorts nose to tail in each bay. Plus space for a decent work area to the right. I can't wait to get it all set up and spend a heap of time down there.

I was thinking "you should restore that lovely escort instead of hack it into a track car"... then I saw it was a 4 door so hack away [88]

Nah, It looks good. Engine looks almost complete, and it's already got the fruit as you say! Nice manual... looks like it just needs a strip down and rebuild.

It will be good to see it looking spick and span. Would make a great nostalgic track car. Would be lots of fun to drive too. [:x)] Great find. Enjoy the project.
