Keep the pinto engine. In time to come if you ever sell it, it will dramaticly increase your buyer base with the original engine for thoes people that want to buy an original car.[%][:p]
Zetec is looking good sofar. Hope all goes smooth for you.[:p]

Engine is in..

For anyone following the thread I decided to weld bungs into the water rail for the 2 temperature sensors, they weren't there in the last pics

And I had to modify the sump. The back side didn't clear the flywheel. Stupid really, I copied a design off the net instead of measuring it up [xx(] Anyway its fixed now.

Hopefully do some wiring this week and then make the inlet manifold next weekend. Also going to buy a 1.8 water pump. Have also decided to use the pinto altenator as the zetec one doesn't fit [:p] Oh and I need a new gearbox mount. Hoping to have it running by christmas, or new years at the latest.

What manifold design do you have in mind to clear the booster?

Paul I was going to go with an IDF weber style manifold, but loooking at it now theres lots more space than I thought. I'll just slope the throttle bodies at about 45 degrees. I'll get some pics when I have a chance, I have only made one runner.

Heres the inlet side.. The injectors are underneath, which means they spray straight into the port. Putting it this way up meant the angle had to be steeper in order for the injecor to clear the brake booster (see pic). I should still be able to get 70mm trumpets and filters on without hitting the bonnet.

That's coming along very nicely, and the t/b's look great on the angle.

Yeah the thermostat goes in an escort housing on the front of the water rail (see pics). The headers don't fit very well, they hit the bellhousing where the starter goes [B)] . Thats Ashley for you! They clear the water rail though.. Theres a pic of it dummied up on the 1st page. I'm going to try to get a thicker exhaust gasket or angle grind the bellhousing...

Good stuff there mate. What did you use for the inlet manifold? A bit of alloy machined to a triangle shape to give your angle? Looks tops. I also like your water rail you made too, looks the goods! What size injectors did you use? Sorry for all the questions [:I]

Nah its not alloy unfortunately, I can't weld alloy so i decided to make the first out of mild steel. Once its proven to work I'll have one made from alloy.

I cut a flange (flat) with the oval shaped ports. The angles are made from mandril bends (and are about 45 degrees). I machined sleeves to increace the od where the silicone tube joins and shaped the other end to be oval to meet the manifold. Hard to explain, i'll take some pics of just the manifold later on in the week.

The injectors are off the bike, I think they are 210 or 220 cc/min so will do the job fine (the bike had 155 hp).

The problem with the thermostat at the front is it has to heat all the way back to the front of the head to open the thermostat... So the head ends up just about cooking....

If you run out of cc's from your injectors you can buy bigger motor bike ones from US eBay... And by doing a google you can find velocity stacks to suit...

Sound like the Ashley manifolds are a hit and miss thing according to Turbosport forum too....

I see you haven't extended your throttle bits yet... Get someone who can TIG well....

I am sure it will sound poo poo hot when it all comes together....
