Dave's RS

Here is the start of my RS rebuild (or the point of no return). As you can see car has been stripped and is ready for the body to be cleaned up for a decent respray.

This will be my daily driver when I'm finished, but want it to as good as new, clean, tidy & easy to maintain at this level.

Looks good Dave, seems to be a tidy shell. You've done well to find that up here.
Let me know if you need and bits and pieces

Yep, agree with Grant - the shell looks clean in all the right places.

Keep the topic updated so we can see your progress.

Things have progressed - got the 'several' layers of paint removed to see something that doesn't have to be taken to the tip (that was a relief). Got some rust in the ususual spots - bottom of rear screen/top of boot, drivers sill, drivers rear quarter & around the heater bowl. Right hand side was very clean and no surprises overall. Panel beater doesn't see any major issues so the plan continues

After giving up on a friend of a friend, who's a great panel beater (apparently - just can't fit me in between fishing, work, holidays & letting Holden owners jump the que), the car has made it to the panel shop at Easter. All the holes have been filled and rust cut out (except the firewall). Was making good progress at paint shop last week. Still needs plenty done to smooth out all the work, but its progressing. Parts back from electroplater to.

More updates - all rust replaced with steel and joins smoothed. Car has has 2 coats of primer (in white) & boot & engine bay have gloss coat on. Doors hung for alignment etc & boot lid (Thanks MaxRS) & bonet primered.

Told panel beater that I've got a birthday in October & seeing this finished & back in my garage would be a great present. No promises - but maybe.

Engine has been dismantled and is on its way to the machine shop.

Just trying to select an engine colour and as much as I'll get shot in this forum - I'm liking the colour of the VE SV6 Commodore - mid blue with a metallic through it.

Might have to allocate some work time in the next week or two and get a lot of loose ends tidied up so they are ready when the panel beater is finished (eg: that crack in the windscreen, check that rear demister works, why hasn't the trimmer got back ot me with a quote for the hood lining etc etc).

We've got the top coat on and now to the blackouts & a few auxillary bits & pieces - then it comes home (for the real fun to start).

Yes (its a slide sun roof - doesn't tilt) & if it wasn't for that the car would have been in my garage around October (look at the date of the last posting). Gee I might even be driving it now.

I've planned it out in my mind ready to start some work this weekend (rear bushes, get the fuel tank in it etc etc). But there is the little matter of constant heavy rain that makes this doubtful. Hopefully the rain stops overnight, the trailer that I'd secured isn't in use elsewhere & the wife's car is available to tow the little sucker home. If this doesn't happen tomorrow I'm going to be grumpy this weekend.....................
