RS2000 Ready for Wedding

Well, since I proposed to my fiancee late last year, I have been working hard to get the RS2000 on the road and ready for my wedding. It will be the car us boys turn up in, a fleet of friends larger newer cars await the girls. My fiancee likes my RS but finds it a bit noisy and scary for her liking. People may have seen my long thread in the Project Cars section, but for now the build is complete and the car is as ready for the wedding as it ever will be. And it would want to be, it's only one week from my wedding today! [:u]

So here she is, my RS2000. I built the engine myself from the block up (matching numbers), resprayed the front end myself, lowered it myself, in fact just about everything on this car I have done myself. I started off not knowing anything about cars, and figured the Escort was a good place to start. I read lots, asked lots of questions (some have been on here, you guys are great), and just had a go. Fortunately everything has come together at this point in time, and I have some upgrades to put on after the wedding.

I apologise for dialup users, but I am one myself and the photos loaded ok with a bit of patience.

1979 Ford Escort Mk II RS2000 four door
- 2L Pinto, mild head and re-grind cam, extractors, bored and balanced, 500km since rebuild
- 4 speed manual, lightened flywheel, performance single-plate clutch
- Lowered 30mm on Pedders springs and blocks
- 15 inch Superlite wheels with charcoal centres and polished lip
- Original Scheel interior recovered in Recaro black material
- RS20Q0 custom plates, RS2000 was taken [:x)]
- XE Falcon S pack front spoiler (modified of course)

The car isn't perfect, I still have some things to do to it, but I absolutely love driving it. It would out-run my lightly modified BA XR to 100kph easily, and just loves the corners. I have some massive Volvo brakes to strap onto the front, am porting and polishing a new head to pretty wild standards and have a Crow cam to put in it, and an anti tramp kit to go on also. However, for now, 7 days before the wedding, the car is complete, and I absolutely love it.

Looks tops Timmeh, nice work. I guess if a wedding is good for anything, it's good for getting cars finished and on the road! [:x)]

Car looks great They look good in white and the rims really suit the car. Clever idea on the number plates getting a Q, might get you out of a few speeding tickets - at first glance it looks like RS2000 with a bug splat or something [88]

mate, your car looks bloody awesome...and to do it all yourself when your didn't know how (much like myself) i take my hat off to you. well done...and good luck in the wedding (mine was 2 weeks ago today).

a handy hint, jiff..yess that kitchen scrubber cleaner, works wonders on plastic like your wiper washer bottle...i bought one which was as dirty as yours and used a scrubbing brush and jiff and it came up a treat, try it...on any plastic bits for that matter.

Another tip with the washer bottles - fill them with a little light gravel or coarse sand, add warm soapy water, place on the lid and shake away.

If it's just surface scum etc it will clean it up a treat

Thanks for all the comments and tips, I'll certainly give that washer bottle a clean.

Those going to the upcoming cruise (CFC13) will get to see it in person, it's easier to see up close that the car isn't perfect but I still love it and love driving it. It's still a work in progress and will only get better.

    Regards, Tim!
