I love these cars,Ive got to ask a question to the gurus here.

have a look in the register both Sean and myself own the only 2 door original autos on the register, its got me thinking does any one ctually know how many autos were sold, from my research not many and i believe there cars are fairly rare.

any one have more info on any other RS autos 4 doors or 2.

from a drivers car point of veiw it does nothing for me but just the to have an aussie only RS auto that is fairly uncommon is cool.

i want to get an auto and fit it one day just for kicks

While we're at it - is there a summary of RS2000's produced according to the month, the colour, 2/4 Door etc?

We can proably start to collate this according to the Serial No (would be in numeric order with the lower number produced earlier.

This is going down the road of a lot of 'registers' where you can start to identify cars that were produced first/last up, rarity in terms of colur (ie: 5? silver ones) or transmission. All in the name of vanity and potentially increasing the value of cars that are 'special'.

Whilst not in the same league - Aust Muscle Car had a similar listing of all the RPO 83's (XA GT) when they did a feature article on the car.

I was hoping that someone would eventually open this discussion.

Currently I don't think this info has been made openly available for the Escorts from one single source/database. Obviously the Falcons are fairly well documented. Both the Falcons and the Escorts were obviously manufactured by the same company, so the process and info must be available.

FoMoCo definitely has reliable records available to the current owner of a particular vehicle and is more than willing to provide an "Old Vehicle Report" in the form of a letter on Ford letterhead. Whether or not Ford has the ability, or wish, to compile all of the info and make available to public is another matter.

Don't forget that the date stamped on the compliance plate is actually the retail date, not the manufacture date. I understand that these cars were built in batches. The car may have been manufactured and held in storage on "The Hill" out the back of the manufacturing plant at Homebush in Sydney for several months prior to the car being ordered by the dealer and the compliance plate then being stamped and fitted prior delivery to the dealer.

I understand that there were only 2 or 3 auto RS Escorts ever manufactured.

yeh, thats good news (for me),as for ford verification I have a letter from ford regarding my RS however they couldnt/wouldn't tell me how many RS autos were manufactured.

The email is below

Dear David,

Thank you for your e-mail to Ford Motor Company of Australia.

From our records, we are able to advise you that this vehicle was originally built to the following specifications:
Serial Prefix CK41WT
Serial Number 77657
SIDO 363646
Model Code 11918 2 Door RS2000 sedan
Engine Code J 2.0L Crossflow 4-Cylinder High Comp
Transmission Code Y 3-Speed T-Bar Automatic
Paint K Monza Red
Trim B Black Vinyl
Options 03 Seatbelts
11 Tinted Band Laminated Screen
52 Sports Alloy Road Wheels
Tyres 24 ZR70S 13 Steel Belt Radial Ply
Date of Manufacture August, 1979

This vehicle was built to comply with Australian Design Rules applicable at the date of manufacture. We are unable to comment on its present specification or condition as modifications or alterations may have been made to the vehicle since its production, of which no record is kept.
Further, we can advise that the automatic transmission was an option available on the Escort RS2000. Our production statistics indicate there were 634 Escort RS2000 sedans manufactured in 1979, however, we do not have more detailed figures with regards to transmissions or other options. Likewise, we are unable to advise you of the original owner of this vehicle. We can advise that the original selling dealer was City Ford in Sydney.
We hope this information is of some assistance.

Kind Regards,

Hi Jimmy,

This is good news.

Interesting, I always thought that the sports alloy road wheels were a dealer option, not a Ford option.

My recent detective work with the original selling dealer of our car was that they did not keep permanent records over 7 years. So 29 years later would be a big ask.

Details of the original owner is really a big ask. This crappy socialist country has strict non-disclosure laws which make it almost impossible to find the original owner, either through the original selling dealer, or the RTA, or any government agency. Best to ask the guy you've bought the car from and chase back to the previous owners as far as you can. Car clubs will also be a good source of this type of information.

Surely it would have to be more than that? I reckon over the years I have probably heard of about 8 or so separate RS2000's which are complianced with auto transmissions.
