Christams Pudding gives energy!!!!! MORE WORK DONE!
The front righthand guard was badly dented, and possibly needed removal! I was so worried, I even started searching for a replacement.

I recently bought a 2.6L Astron engine and 5-speed box from a mate and he included a complete hammer and dolly set for FREE[:u]

Now I am a mechanic - NOT a panel beater....BUT! I have been known to hit things in a fit of rage before...so I thought I'd give the metal massage a go!
1st up I stripped the affected area;

2nd I assed the damage;

As you can see it was a hell of a lot easier than replacing the panel! Now I know my work is borderline acceptable, so I have decided to drop the car off to a 'Professional' panel beater prior to the final paint being laid - to ensure reasonably straight panels.
Anyway, a new engine package is going in - 2.6L Mitsubishi carby engine and 5 speed. Should thump out approx. 150hp, and the engine I bought (got it for $100) has a steel crank, heavy duty block, forged pistons, big valve head, match ported manifolds, heavy duty clutch and was built by a Mitsubishi gear head.
it will be a tight fit, however the car is a factory auto, so the tunnel is larger and the Mitsu bo and Ford 4 speed bos is basically identical in size and dimensions.
The problem will be the length and height of the engine. Height no problem, as I intend on fitting a 'cowl induction' hood scoop, how ever the length a conundrum. I could cheat and cut the rad support...however I will fit a worked 1600 Kent if the 2.6 is lame, and I am loathed to modify the engine bay metal too much.
Anyway it's better to have difficult decisions about how I am going to fit all this horsepower in that it is to worry about being under powered!
Oh and and I scored a locked up RS2000/rallypack diff - complete for free from my brother! The housing is painted gloss black, and it has the bigger Mk 2 brakes! So I guess my arse is sorted then[;^)]
More pics and updates as it happens!
