Ive been back on the job today after a few weeks of doing nothing[:p] Heaps of progress today,I spent 10 hours out in the shed with the Mig and angle grinder[:0] Both sides are fully welded in and seam sealed...although I did an abortion of a job with the seam sealer[:u][:p] Thankfully it is sandable and I can rub it back[%] All the fresh metal is in etch primer ready to go[;^)] The only down side is that I now need to paint both rear quarters due to the paint being burnt where I spot welded the sheet metal tabs to the quarter,I was expecting this so no real drama's

Thanks Guys[:p]

Fehlbie,I have some more welding to do and I am planning to redo a rust repair that I did 14 years ago at the osr quarter. The welding is to the chassis rail where I have ground a lip down so I could move my coilovers in another 10mm and also the boot floor where I have some screw and bolt holes from different fuel system configurations that I have run.I have decided to go back to basics with the fuel system and move everything under the boot floor using the original tank.I am also moving the battery to under the passenger seat(odyssey type) So painting will be done after that work is finished...until then some brush touching will have to do[%][;^)]

Sounds like you have fair amount of work left to do.
So you are going with a Mount Druitt specialpaint job for the moment?[:x)][:x)]

The paint may well be brush touched until it can be sprayed[:p] Well at least its shaping up for a respray with all the work Im doing at the moment[:0]

With the rear body part of the Phat Rubber equation now complete,I have moved to the front of the car. The aim up front is to fit 235/45/17's in with comfort. Anyone who has looked at the clearance between the tyre and guard with my old setup would know that there wasn't much room[:p]and thats with 215/45/R17's. I had Capri format struts in the front until now and they just dont suit the Mk1 Cortina geometry which as a result was robing me of space upfront. I have now gone back to Mk1 Cortina struts after briefly exploring the Mk2 Zephyr strut option. With some engineering mastery,Mark has created an adaptor which allows me to bolt the Mk1 Cortina struts to Escort control arms[;^)] This intern allows me to retain the Escort rack and pinion steering[%]] With the Mk1 Cortina struts mounted temporarily to see what the tyre to guard clearance is like, the results are obvious[%][;^)]

No mate, thats just the wheel bolted straight to the hub. It clears the strut without coilovers but once the coil overs go on I will need to fit a 10-12mm spacer. Once I dial in some more neg camber via the control arm,fit the spacer and go to a 8" wide wheel with a 235 tyre it should fill the guard again
