unless you can do alot of it yourself the sr will cost waymore then 5g's by the time you factor in all the small things like fuel pumps + related plumbing etc, new exhaust, intercooler, tailshaft etc it will add up real quick. not to mention the old escort diff wont stand a chance.

my engine before i broke it was fine, i just know you can improve the pinto a fair bit more then just getting Twin webers and a big cam and a few head adjustments, just wondering how.

Over Size Bore std block and offset grind crank with some new rods you take stroke it to 2.4L with your head and carbs it should be about as good as a pinto can get, I have a old Fast Fours and Rotaries DVD here and there are three datto 1600's CA18DET, FJ20T and L20B Stroked to 2.4 and the stroker wins ! Twin Carbs and Single overhead cam just like the pinto.... Plus you get heaps of torque so by the time the turbo has spooled up your already a car length or two ahead.

having twins good head and a big cam is nothing with out the right compression ratio, ignition timing, and proper exhaust system not to mention properly setup carbs with the right sized chokes what are you runnin ? and what caused the last bottomend to fail ?? detonation?

Rhys, just waiting on a phone call about that bored block, with offset ground crank and appropriate rods. Its in Maitland so all you will have to do is find someone to put it together for you.

The question seems simple enough, but the answer is not. Put in really simple terms, the way to "more" HP in yer natcho engine is through either increasing its cubic capacity, or raising its compression, and ideally both. And thats assuming it already breathes well and has effective fuel and ignition systems that will support high RPM. However, making more HP puts more strain on components in the engine. The Pinto's known weakness is its rods, and the next weakest bit would be pistons as far as I know. The block and crank can take a good deal of punishment as is, but if you want to up the compression then rev its nuts off, you will need better rods n pistons. Other things to consider would be ARP fasteners to hold everything together, and high quality bearings, etc. You could also consider a high volume baffled sump, and some snazzy synthetic oil, which I assume the engine builder should know about when they measure tolerances, etc. The thing that makes it interesting, is that its all up to you, and what you want the engine to do. Are you looking for something fun, or completely crazy? Do you build with stock parts and respect the engines limits, or do you peel your wallet inside out to build something wild? And if so.. What are your diff and gearbox plans lol? And how big are yer brakes? If it were my engine, and considering that its already had a let go, I would probably be building for reliability this time round. let's face it, a running escort that can't eat silvia's at the lights is better than a broken one in the garage. If you want to pwn turbo's and V8's.. Buy a bike. [:x)] Mine is old & stock, cost me 5 grand, and pulls a 12.67 quater in almost any conditions lol. I love watching them try . Just my thoughts dude.....

Thanks Vanman, Id like a quick powerful torquey engine... got a celica 5 spd and getting a LSD once the engine is built. I dont wanna mortgage a rebuild but im happy to spend but yeah not overboard. So Maybe look at strengthening everything and going from there.

Ok cool, well with that in mind, I would be hunting for some sierra pinto rods.(mildly stronger than escort ones) And I would probably push my luck with new stock pistons. Adding some ARP fasteners would be good insurance. And if its not already planned, then definitely get your bits balanced.
let's assume the block at the very least got honed, and possibly a mild bore. That would increase your cc's very mildly, and a skim of the head, (just enough to ensure its flat) should also very mildly increase compression. tiny improvement, but not enough to stress things out.
Stick with a cam thats not going to encourage you to rev out over 7K rpm, and I would expect the engine to give you some fun mileage.
The next step up for me would be looking into some of the recipies ppl have posted recently.. Like the semi forged Mahle VW pistons mated to Datto 1.6 rods on a mildly stroked crank.

Ha! you wouldn't believe it... Fiucking fly wheel come loose.. and somehow it was banging around.. crank is a little damaged but thats about it... Im stoked it didn't throw a rod or somthing bad, so while hes got the engine out im going to get him to lighten the fly, more compression etc. Very very happy with that, but now i face the problem with getting a frigen Blue slip... [:(!] i know.. i should have kept it registered but im a tool sometimes. Anyone in Newcastle know anywhere or anyone who can give me a blueslip? I may be able to get one but id like to get a few more options. It's got the Twins on it and it's fairly lumpy and loud so i thought im going to have a bit a trouble getting one. Any help would be much apreciated. Also looking for a good LSD, Any recommendations? Rhys

Good to hear you didn't do any major damage. I Sheared my flywheel off the back of the crank one time. Dumped the clutch in second gear at 6000rpm [:I]..
I got my blueslip at all care car care in kuri kurri. He is very flexible. My mk2 didn't even have a carbon canister and the tyres were in a very sad state. speedo didn't work either! lol
