Scortfreak's sleeper project.

Got this a little while ago from Jet-6 off this forum. Now with the cops cracking down harder and harder on modified cars down here, I've pretty much given up on ever using my green MK1 as a daily.

Instead, I'm going to do this one up as a sleeper. Current plans are to fix the body up a bit, sort out the interior, then once I've gone through rego I'll start hunting for either an EFI pinto, or N/A SR20 for it. That's a fair while away though.

Tried the superlites on it for a while, prefer the stock look though. Better get looking for a set of original hubcaps.

Stockies look cool with a whitewall and low stance. Now you need a rear venetian.

    Goodluck with it.

I'm of the opinion that if the car is neat (as yours is) and you don't give the cops a reason to pull you over (i.e. by driving like an idiot on public roads) then there shouldn't be an issue.

Ever since I was teenager I've driven Escorts daily, ranging from a BRIGHT orange Mk2 with roll cage and bonnet scoop (still not proud of that, but it did look tough), a bright red Mk1 with Superlites, cage, number squares on the doors, red Sparco seat and harness, through to my current daily driver being the X Pack - which I wouldn't exactly class as being 'subtle'.

Not once have I been pulled over and harassed, and I have been driving in traffic plenty of times with a cop well within view. Sure I've been pulled over for "random" breath and rego checks, but I make sure everything is legit and give them no reason to give me a hard time.

Just my thoughts on the matter! Of course, I'll probably cop a canary on the way home tonight... [:p]

Oh, and I think I've got some stocky hub caps if you need them Blake.

If you want to see a classic example of a true sleeper there is a custard yellow and white Mk11 Cortina in Melbourne with cheese cutter white wall tyres and all. Under the bonnet lurks a somewhat "worked" Mazda rotary.

Yeah, I'll buy the one on eBay if I can get some money together. Just blew it all getting the green car back on the road... I should probably think about a job. [B)]

And they can't really say anything at the moment, since me and my dad are both tied at 3 cars, and my mum has 2. They did get pretty annoyed when I had 5 of them though.

Simon, I agree that it has a lot to do with how you drive, etc. But with the new laws that are coming in this July (no 'performance' modifications at all), a bright green car with a P plate is going to pretty much scream "pull me over". That would be 3 demerit points alone, then once they defect me, I'd probably cop enough to lose my license... just for driving my car. [}:)]

I've been trying to contact Vicroads about it, because one source says that if you buy the car before the law comes in you're exempt from it, and the other says that you must have your license before the law comes in. If the first one's the case, I'll just focus on making the green one defect-free. Seems like even Vicroads don't know the laws they're trying to bring in though, because I can't get a straight answer out of them. [:(!]

Might have to take you up on those hubcaps. Been checking eBay and haven't came across any yet. [:o)]

Tried selling it and didn't have any luck. So here I am seeing what the old motor can do before it gets pulled out...

I don't get it. The bloke comes on to the forum asking advice as to what might be wrong, people then respond with helpful ideas. He doesn't get it, the cops are only picking on young people.

    The wheel fell off
    The diff makes a noise
    The gearbox has something wrong
what's this? looks like a ignition coil

    The story unfolds!!

Thats why people in the know suggest that the human brain isn't developed until 25 years, then theres those hormones to worry about.

    I'm glad I don't live nearby.
