Classic Ford Show-Hobart 02-12-06

Some random photos from today..

This was one of a handful that went thru the Arrows F1 workshop before being put on the market. It was delivered new to Japan, then bought into Australia, before this owner purchased it. It has Motec, RS500 intercooler, bigger turbo, Tarox? brakes. The paint is factory.

This BDA originally belonged to John Bowe and was fitted to his Ralt open wheeler. It is built for 14000rpm, but the owner keeps it to around 9500rpm. It is fitted to a genuine twin cam shell. Oh yeah, the owner is the guy with the Escort Cosworth...

Well 1 anyway, the other wont work...

This Anglia sports a hot little pre cross flow and is used for Rally Tas and club days at Symmons and Baskerville.

This Mk1 2 door had a Zetec with Injection Perfection throttle bodies, round headlights and a fuel cell in the boot.

Hey Jase, where are you from??? Im from Hobart and went to the car show on Saturday. The Mk1 with the Zetec is owned by a guy from my work, at the casino. Did you have a car in the show? Hopefully my car will be ready for the next show next year.

If the BDA has the corect components it cpuld be reved to 10,500 but they are a very short life engine and to go to 14,000 it would only do it once! before it flew to bits after breaking the valve springs
As far as the MK1 RS goes it's a replica

what's the give away with the mk1??

Wouldn't the headlights be the first giveaway?
Apart from that I know very little about genuine Mk1 RS2000's

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the MK1 RS's have round head lights?

Ok I'm a bit of a mk1 rs enthusiast [^]

So the things that i can pick are.. the stripes are all out of proportion, the lights are supposed to be round, the front guards should be flared like the twin cam ones, there is no black around the windows nor chrome stripping. Interior is wrong aswell. Many of the mk1 RS2's had what was known as a fashion pack interior which featured black rolltop recaro seats black roof lining etc..

Sorry I don't mean to be bagging the owner of this car.. it is still a nice car.

At a glance
Guards, grill, lights, window and sill mouldings, decals, wheels and door mirror
The Australian delivered cars didn't have the custom pack trim as they were were the basic thing for homologation

the bda mk1 is actually a bdg. the cossie isnt factory paint either, it was origninally painted the same as the arrows f1 cars of the early 90's. white with red and blue squares all over it....noice (not)

sorry, that wasn't meant to be negative! was a good show, so many of my familys old cars there! my old capri (orange one with the fence) my old anglia (the don elliott racing replica) my dads old gt500 (white one) i think that was it, not sure now! i have a few pics but couldnt post them for what ever reason...

the mk1 rs2 was far from real, only had a 2 clock dash too! still got some people looking...

Ford tested the BDGs quite a few years ago now and it was filmed for a program in the Uk.
They were testing the best spec BDGs they could build and everyone went BANG at a little over 10500-10600rpm.
They were uasable to 10,000rpm.
I had one limited to 9,500rpm and this was very reliable.
Ford was testing to see if the engine was a useable proposition for a particular race formulae.
To watch 3 engines in the Dyno cell go bang was awefull and to be told a further 2 had done the same thing didn't help either.
If they had been succesful in extending the rev band the engine would of become much more availible to the public and much cheaper on parts.

I think the guy with the escort is very wise to keep it to 9500rpm.
It would still be huge fun in a street car.
If it goes to 14k then I think he needs a new rev counter.

i have been told about the 14k rpm. i tended not to believe it from who told me (a good mate of mine's father employs the bloke who built the engine)

the car is a genuine twin cam too, he has owned it since the early 80's i think. have mentioned it before on here somewhere, but he had a brilliant quote which went something along the lines of "i've owned hsv's, porshces, a ferrari but i will never sell the escort" that sums up how much fun the thing is! jason white (targa winner from a couple of years ago and one of the best race car builders about) has jsut helped set up and manufacture some new extractors. very impressive too.
