Price of Escorts

Hi All,
I'm starting to be lured to the thought of a V8 cruiser, I had a XA GT lookalike in my younger days.  If I find one that doesn't require selling an organ I will probably have to sell the RS, I will only be able to have room for 1. Most long term members of this forum will have a good idea of what I have done with the restomod of the RS, what sort of coin would you reckon for it- somewhere around the $40K mark?  would be interested in your feedback?  The gearing on the RS is not so highway friendly at 4.11:1 so a cruiser is better for long distance travel we do up here in the far north- tlhinking a AU series 3 XR8/TE50- pricing has not gone too silly on them yet, unfortunately not too many around here.
Cheers, Len

A friend of mine has a au 5.0 tuned and kitted like the touring cars in the day, it might be a special variety with snow plow and all.. Apart from the fuel costs he claims the tyre cost is higher lol . It's low, loud and dangerous.
Go for it Len, not much cheap power going these days . AUs may never pull big $$ for their ugly duckling , what was they thinking design. That aside the ride and interior seems beyond what Ford aus could ever do in that era

40k, easy 👍

I think now is a good time to be selling if your considering! I just sold my daily (cbr600rr) for same price i bought it 6 years ago, all i did was service it and put kms on it. I sold it through consignment through the dealer, it sold in about a week and im sure they made a few G on it also. If i was you id consider going through one of the large auction houses, they might charge a bit but i think people like using their services.

I think the TE50 is a great choice, you never see them anymore. I have fond memories of pushing trolleys at woolies and seeing a nice red one when they first came out, was the local insurance guys daily drive.

Thanks for the feedback, if any of our QLD members know of a decent XR8/TE50 give me a yell.

You've put alot of good work into the car Len, good luck with the sale and hope it goes to a good home.

I sold my TE50 off a while ago, one of the best Falcons they made, I miss it...

Hi Drew,
My neighbour has a nice red one, that's what sparked my interest in the model. What sort of money did yours go for, if you don't mind me asking ( PM me if you like )   I am currently helping a mate get his AU3 XR8 going again, he hasn't started it in over a year, I'm hoping to talk him into selling it, one owner, low KM's he tells me. he has noticed that some people are now starting to ask silly money for them, I'm hoping he isn't just going to hang on to it so he can get silly money for it as well. He tried to get $5k trade-in for it a couple of years ago for the 4WD he has but was only offered 2K. If it's in as good a nick as he says I might try at $10k, give me room to fit a TE50 body kit and a shaker scoop for the bonnet, his is black. Just lives under his house so the paint might be good. Should get to see it tomorrow, taking round a new battery and some fresh fuel to get it started.

Might be under pricing yourself, I was scanning sales and some RSs are above $60k.

hey Marty,
Mine is not concourse but in pretty decent shape, plus some of my mods might  put buyers off, if they want standard/ original condition.  I just upped my insurance with Shannons to $40k, they told me they had sold an RS 4 door the previous week at $38K so I thought 40+ might be where I would aim for.  still, I have to get a cruiser first LOL.  got any links to the ones you saw?
Cheers, Len

Hey Len,
Mine was a T1 manual, under 100 000kms, I sold it in late 2017 BC (before covid) I was asking 13k for it and got close to that. The T3 is the pick of the litter with the 5.6 stroker engine but prices reflect that. Wasn't a fan of the auto T2 with the ESS shifting buttons on the steering wheel.
The XR8's seem to be around the same price as a T1 or 2 despite being a lower spec, however they were a hero car of V8 racing at the time, hence the appeal and price.
The T1 was a real gem, on paper it has around the same power as my XR50, both have been around Wanneroo park (Barbagallo) and the T1 with its Tickford brakes and suspension would spank the FG any day. Then there was the sound of the high revving Windsor.
Anyway I digress if you can find a nice 'T' got for it.

Thanks Drew,
Got my mates car started ok today, needs a service, had some caution lights come on when we took it for a spin. he's booked it for a service next Tuesday and I put my hand up to detail it for him next week as well. Took a pretty solid wash with a hose just to be able to see out of the windscreen, a good solid scrub at the car wash to make it look half decent. His has only 103,000 k's on the clock and the interior is really good, might maybe have to think up to 15K if I get to make a bid on it. Will have to wait and see, my help to get it up and running again might have re-awakened his enthusiasm for the car!

thanks, Marty, certainly gives me some food for thought seeing what is on offer.  My biggest problem is likely going to be the fact I live in far north QLD, long way to travel to take it to auction, would have to be online probably.

Whilst we are on the price of escorts I have a bit of a curly one.

Long story.

Some time ago, some may remember I bought, and subsequently sold (after much drama) a MK2 2lt auto coupe.

I had the car preliminary sold twice, once on here once, once on Facebook, of which both buyers failed to actually turn up on the day with cash in hand. (I even took a day off work for one!)

After that I put it on eBay and sold it for 2.5 times what I was prepared to let it go for previously. The guy who bought it had came and inspected it twice.

Got a phone call the next morning after his mechanic realised the car was actually a front cut. It's actually easy to see when you look for it, however, it hadn't even crossed my mind at the time (or his)to look for it.

I had bought the car from an elderly gentleman who had purchased the car from a car yard in the early 90's. Car had been Vic registered since then and I bought it with reg. (Obviously now lapsed)

Anyway... In complete good faith, I offered a full refund to the buyer, so he dropped off the car and the it has sat since in the corner of the shed.

I have ( not fitted and may be sold as a package???) Multiple spares including alloy tarmac arch + spoiler kit, 8 point cams spec weld in rally cage, 4 link kit, rn25 hilux diff with multiple ratios, 2lt blocks, heads etc,....

I had planned on building a rally car to replace my 4door motorhhana car, however I could do with the extra funds to pour into the mk1 turbo.

Any ideas on what the car alone with fetch given its uniqueness... Most likely track/race only?

Or do I put it on eBay again with a reserve and see what it makes.

I'm a bit jaded after the stuffing around I got last time...

thanks Shaun

If your open and honest with the ad id put it up on ebay - im assuming it can still get vic reg or would it need to go for a full inspection?

sorry but I dont think the car having had front panels replaced is as much of an issue as it used to be.

So long as it's sound, anyone into Escorts now would know that is pretty much par for the course these days.
The cars are 40+ years old now.

I've never sold a car on  ebay personally, but understand the problems.
I would probably offer it up on a FB escort forum instead.
Ones I have seen are sold pretty quick.
Otherwise, I've often wondered how an Escort would go in the likes of Unique cars mag: High Escort prices look like loose change compared to everything else....
