My new RS2000 project

Hi all,

Just thought I'd pop in here and properly say hello.

Just bought a Matching numbered 79 RS2000 as a project to keep me busy during the winter months. Had a shedload of new parts so most of the main things have already been done and will tastefully restore it along the way.

Dilemma I have is that the original colour is yellow and it's had recent paint in Midnight Blue (far from a great job)
Favourite RS colour is Burnt Orange so do I go Burnt Orange or take it back to original Yellow?
Any input welcomed!

Hi George,
Your new car looks wonderful!
For the enthusiasts/nutters the original colour will have the best resale value.
The burnt orange is by far the sexiest colour, however not popular in the 1980's, so extremely rare today.
But the midnight blue is also gorgeous.
I have just purchased a midnight 2 door RS2000, however in extremely poor condition, so I have forgotten how the complete car looks.
More photos to inspire, ...... please....

I saw that car at SFS and thought it looked pretty neat but i didnt get a real detailed look.  Shame it isnt a genuine blue car as they are quite rare these days.
Depends how much work you are prepared to do. A complete colour change is pretty much a full resto or it will look shizenhaussen.  I think i would leave it blue.  At least its a factory colour and only those who look at and are familiar with paint codes would notice it wasnt originally that colour.

The car's pretty solid. Shiny new parts fitted are as follows. Gearbox, gearbox crossmember, propshaft, Front Crossmember, Steering Arms, Steering Rack, Track Rod Ends, Master Cylinder, Brake Booster & Anti Roll Bar Bushes.

Was thinking of leaving it Blue and running it as is for the forseeable, adding on some bolt on bits along the way like twin 45's and a cam but I just don't think I can live with the blue.

Orange it is I think with the UK style black out on the boot area. Will strip it bare for repaint and redo the interior at the same time. Hopefully it turns out well!

Some more pics before I start tearing it down. Interior has been done before. Not my taste so will be getting replacement trims and covers from Aldridge.

Looks nice!  Although a fan of orange myself, I like Escorts bright, and burnt orange is less so that the earlier raw orange used Escorts during the second half of 77 and 78, so I would go with original yellow if I were to repaint it.  Maximises its resale value too!  Good luck with it.
