Crazy reasons for failing roadworthy inspection

Hi Guys,
 
Took my MKII to get a roadie last Thursday and it failed.  The were a few not surprising issues that I hoped may not come up like it being a bit loud and a few small patches of rust in the spare wheel well.
 
But the one I can't get my head around is the mechanic told me the wheel nuts were too short.  They are the same nuts that have been on it for 30 plus years so I thought I just buy new ones anyway.
 
So I get the new ones and they're the same size as the old ones!
 
So I thought I'd put it on here as no doubt there'd be some very funny stories about crap reasons to fail.

Most annoying for me was a mechanic requesting a new windscreen.  I asked him if he'd bothered to check the confition of it before writing it on the list.  He sheepishly replied 'no'.
 
It was brand new.
 
I still had the receipt in the car from when it was installed new less than 24hrs earlier.
 
At least he crossed it off the list. :)

Mine failed due to the indicators flashing too fast and missing a few grommets in the floor pan.

i feel for you Matt...
been to loud is NOT a RWC issue...yes an EPA problem but definately not a reason to fail a car...
had a very heated discussion with a workshop over my TX3 getting passed...admittedly it was on the higher side of 110db but as i clearly pointed out to them,nowhere on the list is a section for noise...

Seat belts on imported car had English safety compliance tags on them...wouldn't accept that they'd be equivalent to Oz standards.
 
I took it up the road, passed immediately. But the first bugger fleeced me for $195

I once had a car fail roadworthy because (among other things) the interior courtesy light didn't come on when you opened the door...

I had a 1970 Mk1 Escort years ago. It failed an inspection because the indicators did not self cancel.

umm that is a legit reason for failing a car...can be different tread front to back but has to be matching on each axle...

Hey Sean, That's another reason mine was bounced.  "left hand indicator don't cancel."

I had a Morris 850 Mini quite a few years ago that failed because the wipers did not self park - even though they were working as designed and in 1962, mini wipers just stopped where they were when you turned off the switch.  It took a bit of talking, but on my second inspection, I convinced the workshop owner (one of his mechanics had done the original inspection) that it was ok because it was working as designed.  If I needed to change to self parking wipers, that would have meant putting a later model wiper motor in the car - not that difficult to do and certainly easier than on an Escort, but I was a lot poorer then and I was trying to get the car on the road as cheaply as possible.

My MK2 escort failed for rust on the inside lip of the boot lid, was told needed an engineers report saying its been fixed properly... took it to another joint, passed no problems.
 
Also, i had a Honda CRX (first car) failed because the boot struts wouldn't hold the rear hatch up.
