Cheers Matt Hopefully I'll have some rear shots on Saturday...its going over to work to prepare to renew its vows with the engine so will be out of the garage for the first time since last November[:p] The current head doesnt breathe to well either[:o)]

Cheers Dayne The fronts are 18x8's with ET+7 and rears are 18x10's with ET+18. That should give a back space of around 4.75" on the front

BTW just about all of my panels are now carbon fibre

With a few hours allocated this afternoon the bottom end is now part of the car once again, thankfully it was a trouble free install...now to get the head built

I'm not being neg, but the brake lines really do stand out.

Is there any reason, either mechanical, rules or laws that one couldn't route them on the other side of the firewall and through the inner guards? Kinda like hiding the wiring in the engine bay?

Im not sure about SFS, the car should be done by then but whether the run in and shake down is sorted by then Im not sure...will have to see how things progress

There's not much more to look at visually at the moment but I have been chipping away at some of the finishing touches. The radiator, intercooler and condenser are now all permanently fitted, the ac system has had a new reciever drier fitted, a little more compressor oil added and the system evacuated then static gassed, and no leaks after a few little joint tweeks!! I can now finish the ac charge once it fires up again.
 
With all the paint, powdercoating and anodising I am anticipating some earth issues so I have made up seperate earth leads for the ac compressor, alternator, block and gearbox. All should now be nicely earthed. The starter motor has been rebuilt with new internal and should be back on Monday ready to be fitted.
 
I've also made up a .5mm head gasket blank so I can dummy fit the spare head back onto the block without any dust or dirt being able to get into the new bottom end, so will refit the head and manifolds next week ready for the old girl to return home again.
 
The head is back at the machine shop with all the goodies that go with it, porting should happen over the next few weeks then for the custom guides to be machined and bigger valve seats to be installed. Hopefully it wont take to long

The main things that remain under the bonnet are to finish the head, source the new turbo and build the new inlet manifold.
For the interior the sunvisors and door handles need to be covered in suede then the rear seat needs to be trimmed, the car needs to be running and mobile to do the rear seat...it may be the biggest job of the whole car, seems crazy as it is only cosmetic and cant be used
 
Other than that, the paint needs to be wet rubbed and buffed, it is still as it came out of the booth and then I need to source an 18" spare wheel that will fit over the brakes...
 
Then it will be finished!!!

A GTX3076R at this stage...unless technology provides another option when Im ready to buy.

Great car & workmanship. The Mk1 Cortina had great styling and you've really added 21st century mechs to it. One point I noticed that may be different between Qld and NSW rego requirements was the door bars on the rollcage. Will they pass inspection ok? I thought door bars were tricky to have for a roadgoing project. Certainly need them to stop that motor taking off on it's own!

Hi Robb,
It really depends on the engineer your using and when it was engineered. The rules for NSW state something along the lines of 'the rollcage must not hamper entry and exit from the cabin'. By sloping the bar forward I can argue that it does not hamper entry and exit from the cabin. On top of that it was passed with a loosly worded engineers report over 10 years ago so is all good, may not be so easy these days.

Luke, I dont expect any probs with the internal gate. TBH I have never come across anyone who has reached the limit of an internal gate so can only guess how that might occur, my way of thinking is that when it gets near its limit, it will cause boost spiking due to not being able to bypass the turbine wheel...Im pretty happy to have that issue!!

I havent interupted the ignition at this point, I should have about 15 seconds courtesy of the accusump with the light on to shut it down...I figure if I havent seen the light by that point, its all over anyway!!

Its a 4x4 throttle body that has been machined out to take a 60mm butterfly.

I took a few pics today of some special mods to the head, these have been done for a while but I have been slack in taking pics.
 
The first is the coolant temp sensor mod to run the Bosch sensor that the earlier heads run...the small turbo head uses a EECIV sensor which isnt compatable with most aftermarket engine management systems.
 
The second and third pics are the inlet and exhaust pressure wave sensor ports. These sensors combined with one in a specially modified spark plug can in an instant provide detailed data on how well matched the engine package is and allow corrections to be made with accuracy to cam specs, turbo, exhaust, inlet tract, etc.


 

 

More good progress Phil, those pressure wave sensors are something I have never heard of how do they work?
Does that fuel rail allow use of injector clips? Also where is the acc cable bracket from?

With the rain today came a chance to get out into the shed...I finished the Accusump install and capped the pipes until the engine has finished running in...just needs a -10 hose installed to become functional!! The remote pressure valve has been successfull tested and after sacrificing a nice chrome valve cap, I had a nut to secure it in the alloy shield panel.
 

 

 

 

One of the last goodies required for the engine bay turned up a few weeks back...its a Turbosmart fuel pressure regulator for -8 fuel lines. I've made a bracket to mount it under the inlet manifold out of the way. Just need to shorten the fuel rail a touch and make up the fuel lines then its pretty much a case of waiting for the head

What pedal box do you use, and cylinder sizes to pump those massive calipers, unboosted also yeah?

Those wheels are nice.. can you please tell me what is the name of those wheels because i am also thinking to buy them. The are shiny and also very attractive. but is that easy to clean them, because I think those cuts are hard to clean from inner side!.

you have drawings for the adapters you could share? For me this is by far the best way I have seen for converting to rack and pinion.

Hi Rob,
A mate had the adapters machined up. They arent anything to fancy, someone handy on a lathe could easily make a set, just make them to fit inside the steering arm where the nylon bushes normally go. Then machine a taper to suit the escort control arms up the centre.

Jus a quick question... R the standard cossie inlet manifolds that good? I jus seem to notice every 1 making decent power still runs them and not many people get a custom 1 made or aftermarket etc...

The standard 2wd manifolds with a plenum spacer will make about 430ish hp at the flywheel so they are well capable. There is room to improve on the design which was done by a guy here in oz with great success, though the improvements are more about mid range than peak power.
 
4x4 Saph manifolds are next best from the 2wd, they will make a few more hp, then the Small Turbo Escort Cossie manifold which is reputed to be good for 500ish hp, I think most likely due to the 60mm throttle body and elbow over the 55mm used on the 2wd and 4wd manifolds.
 
RS500 manifolds are the best of the std type, claimed to be good for 600hp, I think RS500's run a 65mm throttle body.
 
For a road or track car, std manifold will deliver more hp than you can use...;)
 
My old 2wd manifolded engine would produce enough to wheel spin coming onto boost in 4th gear on a cold night!!

The head is still waiting for porting, but as of yesterday all other machining is done, ready for assembly after porting:)

Aaah, those pics bring back some memories - rode track/road /triathlon in my younger days. Always a struggle to juggle finance/ time for racing and car modding!!
