Love the colour. Looks like the kind of colour that would change alot depending on the time of day, at night or overcast, etc.

The paint is a metallic not a pearl, The last colour jaguar produced before ford bought them out.
WELL, I bought (04DRS)from JBCARS in 1993 for $6.400 which was OK for a car that copped plenty of abuse for two years, Then it started to fall apart-Racing a rx7 Porsche and dunnydoors between Nambour @ Bribie turn off-blew dipstick out-bent rods [:-(]Time for new engine[xx(]decided to go better at Lakeside PB at the time was 16.6 1/4 10.5 1/8 with standard running gear.
Being 22 my apprenticeship was over, I started a 2LT pinto build, up grading everything(cam,ignition,exhaust,clutch) and went for a locked 4.11 diff[88][88]did motorkhanas,drag's 15.5 1/4 9.82 1/8
Entered summernats 8, Go to whoa-13th 8.39?kicked Fitzpatrick's blown chev fc butt. Pity the shifter popped out on those racing changes.

I changed the colour around 1995, Red flame(colour code)
Madness is 120kg passenger spear a spudding.

Engine was 2lt pinto balanced, blueprinted with copper bearings, heavily ported head with match ported standard manifold, 500 two barrel angular discharge Holley(vac sec)Ivan tighe 35/75 cam with twin valve springs, standard flywheel with rpm 90 clutch, 4 2 1 2.5 exhaust.

Shea i painted 04DRS in 2001,metallic red,It looked great straight high flec metallic.Did engine bay, removed battery luckily,Had engine fire in Sept 2002[8~2]lift bonnet to see twin dellortos blowing flames.[:u]back to square 1[:-(]Gave me a chance to hide engine bay wiring. The two photo's below is near the end of the first rebuild.1995.

And finally,This Fj panelvan was built between 1979-81 by my father.Bought for $10 bucks, and dragged out of creek bed.No drivers side sill or floor. Rebuilt in 1986 with a turbo 202.so 19 years and we finally get to see what it will run?15.9sec was it's best,It has run a Flat 10sec over the 1/8th.When (Brian)first built it i could stand strait up in the back.

Love the new door cards

Where did you get the strut brace from ?

I somehow don't think i'll ever make the canberra gathering.. my car is always in a million pieces at this time of the year with some master plan to make it faster, haha

I made a blow by canister out of an alloy anodised drink bottle which i turned upside down and bored some holes in. You can then open the bottom up to drain it out... didnt look too bad either.

Standard Escort Banjo type with rear sway bar.
6 leafs springs with 2 1/2 inch lowering blocks.
I have been running MK1 axles for there strength, but on inspection of spline i had twisted em a 1/4 turn[:p][xx(].
A little mod is needed to drum to clear over a MK1 axle.

Diff center is a MK1 Cortina 4.11-1 gears in a MK2 Escort housing.
(i do these myself)[^]
I have a few tweaks i do to keep the centers alive.
Many year's of no money and plenty of broken centers around.

I even cut a Holden Banjo Center to put into my RS around 10year ago.
I did come to my senses luckily.
Adding extra leave springs helps if you preload the front of spring making the leaves act like a connecting rod.infront of Diff.
If anyone wishes how to make a leaf spring sandwich let me know.

I have been lucky when it come's to advice over the year's.

Is a 2 door roof the same dimensions ?

The B Pillar would be further back on a 2 door, but if they are the same shape and size, then it would just be a matter of dropping it on to the top of the pillars ?

That said the C Pillar is a different shape isn't it - noting the 'gills' behind the window are different in 2 door v 4 door

Well, I have some progress to share.

After going over the body, both the rear wheel arches where replaced with Two door arches, I needed the extra room at the rear of the arches.
Saves me melting tyre rubber to the outer guard.

The only door that survived was the rear passenger side one.
The drivers door was suffering from 'oil can' around the handle. caused from closing the drivers door with my butt too many times.

The nose cone was used to get the passenger guard on in the right place, and the bonnet was repairable.

Only need the front guard finishing and it will be ready to start painting.

Hi Tybrown. How was the trip, you didn't happen to get any contacts about the opening 1/4 windows?

It will be undercoated and left for a few weeks, i can't wait to see it in flat black.

Mark i got totally ripped off by the wife... while in the uk i was doing tours and pooh pooh all the time and didn't even get to see ONE.. not one cossie/old school ford while i was there!!!

In South Africa i saw 2 mk2 Escorts and that as about it but they both has the opening 1/4 windows. Due to the health of my Grandfather and because there was no way in hell i wanted to go for a drive to find the car parts stores (i was on my nerves the whole time i was there) i basically didn't get to do what i wanted too!! a bit disappointing really! You really have to go there to realise how bad it is!!!!

I have thought being a RS500 owner, the UK part would of been scarier.
I bet you didn't mention it to anyone over there, they were popular with thieves when they were first brought out there that way.

I have a few contacts from South Africa, they wont go back.

Just a few little spots around to fix, no wonder replacement panels are available now[:u]
I'm trying to alternate the work on it when i get the chance.
The body has had a few hours of sanding, i have a $hitload to go.

Maybe i can get a few sacked King Gee workers to rub it down?

Fixing the house walls is the easy part. Over spray onto other cars would be painful. It's undercoat, it will dust off easily.

The Garage is my place in the house. As long as I'm not cleaning greasy parts in the dishwasher i am fine.

Faced it all back and very happy with the results.
Final colour is going on tomorrow.

Thank you Dad.

I have a set of Green glass to suit the MK2, so no more dark tinted glass.

Would be difficult point for inspectors to challange and prove is safety related.
Being an old car very few people would notice the glass is not original on this particular model. Just wing it and say nothing at the inspection.

Good question.

The main drama with painting the nosecone is paint cracking when the nose flexes.
You can buy the additive from the paint shop, it is expensive.

The surface needs to be very clean after you finished sanding, Skuff it can be bought at a paint shop and applied with fine steel wool.

I have always painted the nose on the car. No point making more work for yourself.

Yeah mate, no doubt making a name for himself, ready for me to take the fall again.

I didn't use plastipak primer, I prepared the surface with 'skuff it' cleaner with fine steel wool.
I was told i only have to use the flexing agent when it's not painted. Time will tell if i have done the right thing or not.

I would of used it if i didn't have to pay for it. It is expensive stuff.

why did you leave the door handles in??, that is a rough way of painting a car would have been only like 5 min to simply unbolt them.
would make a better paint job and easier to polish.!etc

you have overspray over everything

Any water that goes into the side vents, will get half way down the pillar, and pools.
Cut some drain holes along the horizontal rust line, so water can pass down to the wheel wells and rust that out as well.
It's a very common problem with Four door MK2's.
Fish oil will stop the tin worm coming back.

Worth while doing, i tried quick fixing the rear 1/4 a few times.
Rust just started growing again.

Fiberglass worked well filling the vent holes when it was Metallic Red.

The rear 1/4's on my RS have been plated this time.
The guy doing it made little peep doors to access and weld the inside of the pillars.

I did remove the foam in the C pillars before the roof was removed.
They stop road and exhaust noise coming into the cab from the boot area.

so i put them back in. no water problem of water logged foam inside the rear 1/4's now.

I can't wait to run it without any interior in it this time. I want to run a 1.11 lap around Lakeside without powering up the engine yet.

The paint was extra cut here, just the doors and around the nose cone needed polishing in the pic's.
Time to put some better breaks in it.
I wish to run circuit in Group N so i can not go silly with the anchors.

Thanks Phil, I am wanting to do Lakeside on the cars 30th birthday next month.
yes, i did have a 21st for my car.
They bought car cleaning/polish, i supplied the piss. not in anyone's ear but[(#)]
The back yard didn't need mowing for a while, and the lemon tree exploded with fruit after the bonfire needed 20L of fuel to light.
Didn't need anyone to shave my eyebrows that night.

marks let us know if you do book and i'll get ready.... see if i can't break something

Thanks Craig, it has been a big learning experience this time around.
I might not ever go that hard again.
Grant, this Easter is a big weekend out lakeside, This February is just going to be circulating, test and tuning. you wont break anything. Just gear yourself up to have a nice drive.
I have a set of 205/13's if you don't want to wear out the large diameter tyres dude.
Thanks Jordan, i will check the rear drums.

ok do i need a helmet and that stuff? not worried about tyres, probably hard now anyway need wearing out. 13's wont fit over brakes anyway...

No mate, only people with something to protect need a helmet.
The hard tyres and no sidewall will be fun if you stay on the black stuff.
I still need a few cosmetic things for the RS, running the Drags in the T-Ford next month is more work than i thought.
The master cylinder blew and the break line fittings needed moving before i wiped them out unloading it off the trailer.

It will be Two years this June since my little tumble.
I have been fixing mine, your doing the fun type of rebuild.

The money would of been better spent on a yummy cossie conversion.
Not worrying about weather the front tyres are pointing straight or not.
I miss the early morning runs through town the most.
The old XF with a 200 ci auto just does not cut it.

More like dump the Escort and drive the 48-215.
I need lower control arms and a cigarette sponsor.

Just finished fixing a spit in the bore of a 202.
The water in the block froze while in Tassie, and split the bore horizontally in the bore and where the welsh plugs are.

My Father put his T-Ford into the gravel trap at the end of the main straight yesterday. He stopped a car length short of the wall.
Some major gravel rash underneath and few stone chips in the helmet.

The bell housing filled with stones, jamming the starter motor, ending his day.

Well. It's going and mobile. After my home wheel alignment with string lines. Only problem was the boot light arcing on the rear shelf.

Just need to collect some spaces for the rose joint on the adjustable lower control arms inside the crossmember.
The quick rack is heavier than expected.

Now to replace the rear leaf springs and i have decided to modify the fuel tank to remove the pendulum effect while cornering.
I can't sleep now i finally have a square/straight car again.

The Hood lining will be my last expence. Apart from tyres.

Rodney is receiving new king pins. And have some tyres to buy before the Nostalgias out Willowbank on the 19th of February.
I hope to run the 1/8th mile street series this year aswell.

Just finised my first run in the esky.
Apart from too much negative camber. It went well.
The new accelorator cable has improved acceloration.

DAMM. The quick rack is heavy to use.

It's only been used for do-nuts the last 10 years anyway.
Can't wait for the new hood lining to arrive.

New tyres are on the list, thinking of going back to 13' wheels using formula Ford type tyres?

About to rip the whole rear out and start again.
The drop fuel tank will be half the size and still look standard.
And going away from 4.11 diff gears to 3.54. with smaller diameter 13' tyres.
Anyone want a stainless mesh sheet to suit the Mk2 drop tank?

Thanks M8. yeah, little happy right now
Hush hush, it's only officially been to the end of the driveway.
I should have it rego'ed as soon as the hood lining goes in.

I would love a cheer squad for next weekends Nostalgia drags.

Bring your Early Fords to Willowbank on the 19Th and park them behind the control tower. it's free to enter the show with your $25 admission fee.

A little progress report.
Just finished removing all the underbody tar. And will be ready to undercoat after this weekend.
The diff and fuel tank are out. A new diff housing with a 4.44 center is ready to go back in.
Now looking to modify the tank, so the fuel is only in the front 1/3, closest to the diff housing.
I will be touching up the exterior paint, while i paint the underbody Monza red.
A spit to roll the Mk2 over would of been nice. Painting upside down will be a challenge.
After that i will be replacing the twin carbies, with a singled 38dgas carb.

Great call David.
I didn't go red underneath, because i intend to paint the sills black.
Hoodlining and twin carb air cleaner from smcka has arrived.
And the extended drum brake shoes are ready to pick up.
I am about a week away from finishing.

First event will be the "All Aussie day" out Lakeside, early September.
I hope to make it out for the Touring car event next weekend. 12-14 August.

Done and dusted, ready for roadworthy.

Some nice 215/50/15 Potenza's on the B45's. Everything from Smcka worked out fine. Ledgend.
The all Aussie day went well. 4th in the slalom was fun, i doubt my time of 9.08 over the 1/8th mile was correct.

Also just finished freashening the other sohc Pinto i have. Just a felpro headgasket and i have it ready.

I might have the RS rego'ed for the run up Noosa hillclimb next weekend. I wish i was running in the event.
Going up to support the old man in his 48-215 Holden.

Well, The Rs is roadworthy, and ready for rego tomorrow.
I will be visiting all the people who helped with my rebuild this time around very soon.
I did enter my first Hillclimb at Noosa last year.
Apart from the flywheel parting from the crank on my first run, I was very lucky when the bottom pulley came loose, moving the timing belt forward, almost off the cam pulley.
I ran an easy 72 sec on my last run, just edged a turbo mini for last place in the group.
I only need 11 seconds of talent to catch Danny M!
Happy days.

Congratulations Mark. If your in the mt.glorious, dayboro,  mt mee area please stay on your side of the road. I was driving up the campbells pocket rd the other day and nearly got run over by a milk tanker coming down, as you know its only a one lane goat track and its a good thing the corty is long and narrow.

Lucky it wasn't in the Capri. Will keep that in mind.
I do wedding cake deliveries up into the highland twisties, it has been fun going real slow with motorsport stickers on the back, watching bike guys fly past saying wtf.
I can't wait to get out and use it. very overdue.

It was great to do 80km today, pity the Felpro head gasket failed.
I guess the damage was done when the Pipercross air filter backing plate was on backwards. Blocking the small 10mm holes above the ram tubes.
Live and learn.
Head is already back on with a new Felpro headgasket.
Got a V8 Capri to race out Lakeside on Sunday.
All Aussie car day. It would be great to have a few more four door Rs2o0o cars turn up.

Yes, 195/50/15 street Kumho's were used. Great tyre but can't wait to try it with 13' tyres, also trying some second hand 15' Federal Fz-201 semi's this year.
Apart from running against myself, I am trying not to let Danny M beat me by more than last time.
Danny will be gunning for his first 59 while I am shooting for 69 sec.
