Cortina Jake's Cortina (Scoop's Old Car)

Well hauled the little monster up to Ballarat for the Engineer to pour over it and decide what needs to be done to get her all squared away from an engineering certification point of view.

Ended up with a bit of a list. Nothing too onerous or unexpected. But the one thing I was dreading happened. Mr Engineer took one look under her at the beautiful 4 bar rear end, coil overs and watts linkage and said [:-(]"No way, no how, its got to go." Disappointed but realistically I was worried from the start that it wasn't going to fly.[8~2]

So now I need to :
Install an airflow meter, and airbox rather than the pod filter
To check a couple of the welds on the mount for the rack an pinion.
Install a catalytic convertor.
Modify the exhaust to ensure 100mm ground clearance.
Install tailshaft loop.
Battery into a sealed vented box,
Put a cover over fuel pumps and lines in the boot.
2 speed wipers and insatll heater demister.
And of course rip out that lovely rear end suspension. So its back to leaf springs and a panhard rod.

So now its time to roll up the sleeves and get stuck in.
With Geoff Shirley's guidance and assistance its all looking good.[%]

Itching to take her for a blast.

Just get a pair of springs to get you through for the time being...

Well done to the artist who did the 6 link...

What is it about the rear end that the engineer wont pass?

You should definitely leave the mounts for the rear end in place and chuck some stock leafs in for the RWC - that might even give enough clearance for the exhaust without having to cut it up - then put the rad rear end back in straight away. It would be such a shame to bin something that awesome.

Why can't you have a 4 link?? Mine is happy enough to engineer mine in NSW. Just had to make sure it was bushed - which it is. What grounds is he applying to say no?

Also you don't need a heater/demister. You need a fan capable of blowing air onto the windscreen. The law doesn't stipulate that it must be heated.

I thought you needed a fan capable of blowing on the windscreen, that was capable of demisting the screen?? I would deem it unsafe to not have a demister for common sense more than 'what you can get away with[?]'

MkI_JeT, could you supply details of the VACC approved engineer please? I like the sound of him.

Essentially he has said that in Vic 4 bar rear ends are illegal. NSW seems a little more lenient with it.

MkI_JeT I suspect yours is ok because your putting yours in a complete frame and dropping it into the chassis work. Mine has been hung off the exsisting chassis with no additional strengthening.

But going to have another chat with him and see if there is any wriggle room.

Stay posted.....
