Steve's Mk2 MoreDoor

Here's a couple of pics of my lil esky after i finished the paint and added the speedie SoroccoII wheels. She also runs the hi-comp 2.0lt pinto with custom grind crow cam and extractors.
Most recent mods include the custom methanol injection set up that i have just made and fitted, will post pick of this set up when it is sorted properly.

I was going to say it needs to be 2-3 inches lower but i figured you would be taking care of that with the new suspention. will look heaps better when is lowerd at the front.

Are you going to cut them or heat them?? Im thinking about either cutting mine or heating mine up to let it sag. I only need about 15-20mm.
Dont strees thou, You just heat up the very bottom and let it sag till it is touching the coil under it and slowly work around the spring intill you get to the desired height. Once it has been heated it looses its spring.

Yeah it's a shame the paint and body are getting a lil old now, cause when i get around to getting the small spots of rust fixed i'll loose it all, and i can't be bothered doing it again

ayyy u got same seat covers as me
looks nice! did you do the airbrushing yourself?
why not pay a little bit extra for proper springs instead of cutting / heating, i mean if your goin all out on it why cut corners when you can get lowered springs for around 120 bucks? - or cheaper, shop around, it will ride ALOT better.
Cheers, Shea

I started off with the dremel and some metal polish, but wasn't happy with the finish so i used a single coat of alloy look paint with a single coat of clear over the top

jds - the complete set up including all of the front bushes, steering knuckle and fitting cost $1823

I went through the Wollongong pedders store, but all pedders stores can supply these coil overs, mine are only height adjustable but you can get the adjustable insert fitted aswell for an extra $100 or so per strut, they send them off to the Melbourne factory where they make them to suit your requirements. It only took them 5 days from the time they left wollongong to the time they returned and were fitted in the car!

Ok i fitted my new cam on Friday and the webers yesterday but ran into a few problems.
1 throttle cable is stretched almost to it's limit
2 distributor cap is just touching the front weber leaving me no adjustment for timing
Other than that they are all on, she idles (a bit rough but i can expect that from the cam) and she runs ok. Once i sort the dizzy problem out i think she's going to hammer!

Anyone else had this problem?

We have had that problem on our rally car where the dizzy is being interfered with by the Webers, so we just moved the vacuum advance side of the dizzy around to the front and reset the timing with the dizzy there.

I did this yesterday and seem to have the timing set nicely now, she goes alot better with no pinging, just the idle is a bit grumpy and she's a little bit tempermental under 2500rpm, but that's just the cam and i can live with that!
Also fitted and rewired yesterday was my (Tacho) sports dash that i bought on e-bay, so the dash is looking a whole lot nicer now too!

Next step in my Mk2's life will be getting resprayed in orange with the mexico stripes, I love the look of the orange mexico's.

Yeah she sounds great now, and is a pretty wild ride in the wet.

I'm still having a few little issues but working my way through them! Have sprung a leak in one of my soft mounts, i think on No.4 but that seems to be the only prob now, and doesn't hold her back much at all!
I'll fix this problem next weekend probably
2006/03/20 09:58:11

Just fixed the leak, what i thought was a soft mount leaking was actually a rocker stuffed so i replaced the inlet rocker for No.4 and all is well now YAAAYY!!!

What i'm after now is a vernier cam wheel so that i can dial in the cam to suit the rest of the set up, and i would like to get a luminition ignition set up so that i can throw the points in the bin, he he , then it will be off to the dyno for a proper tune!

2006/06/04 15:47:59
Steviestar
Yup, just peel the old vinyl off and clean the old door cards up(repair if needed) then using spray adhesive , spray the cards and fit the thin layer of foam to the cards, cut out the holes etc.
Now using the old vinyl (if still the right shape) use it as a template on the new vinyl. Cut it out making sure you leave a bit of excess (this can be cut of later) so that your garranteed you have enough.I used the missuses sewing machine (SSSSHHH don't tell her, LOL) to sew a bit of vinnyl in black around some black speaker carpet then sewed this to the bottom of the trim. Now spray the cards again with spray adhesive and place the new vinyl onto the cards making sure you have evenly distributed the weight and it sticks properly (i used a special stamp that my mates dad gave me to stamp the pattern lines in at this stage) once adhesive has set i used a staple gun to run around the edges to hold it all nice, pulling it irm at the same time.
Now just cut your holes out leaving a bit of extra to fold under and glue this down for a nice hole finish. Refit the crome stip and Fwalllaaaaaa Done, fit them in the car and go AAAAAWWWWWWW!!!!

LOL

Well i finally got around to pulling my distributor apart to fit heavier springs on the advance weights and try to solve my ignition problems!
After completing all the work and resetting the timing i took her for a berl around the block only to find that it was still the same. So i had a thought and pulled no.1 spark plug out and the rocker cover to check top dead centre!
Low and behold my freakin crank pulley is about 20 degrees out, that's why i couldn't get the darn thing to run right. i remarked TDC on the crank pulley and reset my timing after putting her all back together.

The strut brace stiffens the front end up dramatically by holding the struts at a specific point, nice and tight! therefore with limited chassis flex/twisting in the front end it's like wacking a big swaybar under the car and improves handling!

it has made a small difference in performance, but the main idea behind it was to stop the old filters getting "fuel soaked" and loosing their airflow characteristics and also to save some money come service time as i only have to buy 1 filter each time i go to replace it! after going for a decent run in the car, i can pop the bonnet and touch the airbox and it's still cold so it must be working just fine i reckon lol!

The bumpers didn't look too bad cut, just depends on how you finish the ends up, rounding them off would have been much nicer though
