Mk1 RS1600 daily in Pine Rivers?

Has anyone else spotted a white MK1 RS1600 around pine rivers shire? It's got pretty rough paint, with the large bronze coloured sections down the sides. From the outside it looked like an original. Had the RS1600 badges, 1/4 bumpers & round headlights.

Pine Rivers Shire is on the Northern outskirts of Brisbane.

Have a look around the remote control track. It should be parked near a workshop.

I thought you may have seen it, being a fellow local & all

Yep, the driver looked like tradie. Had his work shirt on etc. So do you know if it's an original RS Mark?

Yeah this had me confused aswell until I read wikipedia a bit more carefully. After 1971 in Australia, the lotus twin cam escort was renamed RS1600. I think the BDA engines came out of the AVO factory in South Essex and weren't featured in Australian models? Please correct me if I'm wrong

Wikipedia

The Mk I was produced by Ford Australia from 1970 to 1975 in 2 door sedan, 4 door sedan and 2 door panel van body styles. 1100 cc and 1300 cc engines were offered, as was the 1558 cc twin cam unit. The latter was offered only in the Escort Twin Cam model, which was renamed to Escort GT 1600 in late 1971

Have a re-read of that Wikipedia quote. The Twin Cam was re-badged GT1600, not RS1600. The GT1600 maintained the Lotus twin cam engine, while the RS1600 had the Cosworth derived BDA.

I was under the impression that RS1600s were assembled by AVO where the GT1600 (twink) were a general factory build.

oh man [x2x]

I'm 99% certain the fender badge said RS. But then I don't doubt Marks statements about the vehicle being Lotus powered.

It can't be both... (unless the owner swapped GT for RS badges)
