Cheers guys..

the rims are a one off make from barry lee.. he used to work for mawer rims back in the 60s and made a set of these to suit the mk1 (the original car is also in the shed) there a 2 piece rim..very light and look pretty darn good!

Beautiful car.
That brings back some fond memories. I had a Mk1 GT around 35 years ago and loved it. Mine was an ex gravel car wiith a bit of head work, cam and a 45mm Weber.
Couldn't kill it.
Sold it when I bought my GA Galant rally car.

nice car matt, by any chance that "original car thats still in the shed" is barry lee's red & white GT.

Cheers Guys were really happy with how it turned out!

Bit if change to the story it was actually ALF Lee that made the rims not Barry Lee.. it was his father Alf that made the rims in the 60's.

Apparantly he made one set for the cortina and one set for a EH Holden and thats all that was know of to be made!

Hi Neale the red and white GT in the shed is most certainly Barry's old car! we found it in a shed in the southern highlands a few years ago.. parked when it last drove in 1983, and even started after a bit of mucking about with the battery! I will make a thread on that car when we start restoring it!

Im glad to hear its gone too a good home. My dads good friends with Barry, they were in the Cortina (later Ford) Car club together.
That car sure has some history. The last time I remember seeing it was on a trailer in a very shabby state about 15 or so years ago when Barry brought it out to thier old car clubs re-union.

Here is a pic of it

Cheers mate... the ol girl literally looks exactly like it does in this picture still! My dad Steve james and uncle Les Quimby were both members of the club in the 60's and 70's as well.. i think my mum Karen James was the secretary for a few years as well .. our green mk1 above still has dads original Cortina Car Club sticker on the back windscreen! Dad remembers running against barrys old car at supersprints and what not many moons ago.

Its a small world they would know my dad Geoff Bayliss. I was just Talking to him & he said that those bumperetts were off his red Mk1 Cortina after he sold it, & that also your Green cortina was the car that towed his Lotus home after he bought it.

Its great to see it being looked after, keep up the good work & keep us posted on the red one.

Very small world!.. yep geoff rang my uncle on Sunday just gone saying they were on a cruise but dad my uncle and myself were racing in dapto and couldnt make it otherwise we would have come up! They know Geoff very well!

Yep the Green cortina was originally my uncles and we found it in Sydney in the early 90's bought it back, dad and i restored it as my p plater car and then once i bought a modern daily car, we have restored it again just as a weekend cruiser!

Cheers mate, the red one is just about to start being restored, dad has already put a new sill on the drivers side and made up the bottom of the rear quarters as well.. hope to get it on the hoist soon to get stuck into it!
