My Mk1 2 Door 2L Escort

Here's my Mk1 Escort, it's a project that Dad and I have been working on for 5 years now and is just about finished. We started with just the car with the 2L Pinto in it, with a few extra's like 40mm webbers and extractors and exhaust, so nothing too flash. It also had a fresh coat of paint and most of the interior stripped. We bought the car purely to race in the Queensland Super Sprint series out at Morgan park and also other sprints around SEQ including Pittsworth, Gatton and Leyburn.

We started racing in 05 at morgan park and ran it for a few years how it was but with a better set of tyres on it (toyo's) until the engine wore out and it was time for a new build... so we took the 08 season off to get the car built up well so we could become more competetive.

This led to a long list of improvements which now includes;

For the engine:
-L16 Datsun Con rods
-Offset and ground crank
-Bored and Stoke 92 Bore 75 Stroke (which brings it to a 1994cc)
-CP Forged Pistons (custom made in the States)
-The head has had a clean and port
-Reground Cam
-Valves are a "Group 1" which is 1 1/2 inch exhaust, 1 3/4 inlet
-Custom steel flywheel
-45mm webbers
-Extractors

It hasn't been dyno'd yet but the mechanic who built it says it should be making around 160hp at the fly.

Suspension+Tyre+Brake:
-Adjustable King spring coil overs in the front
-Adjustable Koni Shocks all round
-205/60r13 Kuhmo Victoracer's
-Ventilated front disc's
-Running a 4:1 ratio diff that's got a welded centre
-Adjustable Camber (i think its running rougly -4 degrees at the moment)

Also includes a few extra things like:
-Full roll cage
-Short Shifter
-Battery moved to the boot
-Autotechnica Non-reclinable racing seat (old seat is shown in pics)
-4 point harness
-Stewart Warner Tacho (old tacho is shown in the pics)
-Killswitch and fuel pump switch
-Fire Extinguisher

Anyway here are some pics to show you what I mean!

Plans at the moment are now to do a full bare metal re-spray as the last paint job done by the previous owner is starting to crack through and doesnt seem to be a very good quality job. We plan on flairing the guards when the paint is off to fit some wider rims (6.5" wide atm, want to go to 7.5")under it to get some more rubber on the ground and then also play around with the rear suspension setup to get it sitting lower in the rear. Also when we do the respray we plan on tidying up the interior quite a bit to make it look alot nicer than it is at the moment and all the rubbers will be done too. After that we plan on doing some more head work and stepping the webbers up to 48mm with a bigger set of extractors to get more power.

Thanks should go to Peter Hurlihen in Warwick who has pretty much all of the work on it since we bought it.

That's all for now, i will keep you updated with what happens.

Cheers,
Shamo

Great looking club car - love the colour scheme! Are you planning to keep it when you repaint?

Thanks for that guys, I love the colours too, but the old man is keen on changing it, either to white with blue stripes (reckons it will match the block and it being a ford and all) or just a different solid colour but yeah i'm opposed haha.
