my previous 1970 Mk1 2 door

hello,

just realised that i haven't shown pics of my old 1970 MK1 Escort 2 door i built many years ago ( basically 10yrs now!! ). it started as a $250 heap with a seized 1100. ended up joining the WA Ford Rallye Sport club and through one of the guys in the club i bought a rebuilt & mild 1600 that included a 40mm side draught, manifold, 4-1 tuned extractors, alternator etc etc. engine was dynoed at 65rwhp once in the car. the car ended up being repainted in custom metallic orange, had Honda CRX front seats fitted, new roof lining, door trims etc, holes filled in the dash and painted black, Mk2 2L box ( after original destroyed itself with the new found power of the 1600 ), custom one piece tail shaft, 2L diff, quick shift, MK2 2L front struts and brakes, 2" exhaust and of course a lowering job. i also had three sets of rims for it, 13" Rostyles ( paid $100 for them!! ), 12" stockies with perfect moon caps & 13" 12 slotters with Formula Ford AVON racing tyres. was an awesome car but had to be sold due to circumstances changing... as they do! anyways, heres some crappy, scanned, pics of it ( unfortunately none of interior )

yeah they were pretty cool, found them in a Ford wrecker here in WA ( Bayswater ), never saw anymore or anyone else with them. sold them long ago with the car :

65hp seems a bit low for that engine & DCOE. What do you think was limiting its output? Did you have a fuel pump? Electronic ignition? Bigger valves? Also, how was it to drive in traffic at low rpm's? If you're wondering what's with all the questions, I'm looking into this engine set-up in my escort. It would be great to have some feedback. Thanks

not sure on exact specs apart from the carb & exhaust sorry, bought the engine second hand already built. as far as i know it was standard inside apart from a rebuild and, what i was told, a GT spec cam so pretty basic really. no fuel pump or fuel mods, no valve or head mods as far as i remember. went hard, not bad in traffic, rev'd nicely to about 7 - 7500. pretty noisy with the zorst though. nice reliable engine.

headers arent red hot no :) originally were painted red but kinda went pink/white after a couple of weeks!
