Rhys,
Interior was already like that when Rob had it, would assume sometime in its life the seats have been re-done. Its different material to Russ', how many diff materials came on Aussie RS' anyway?

Rhys
2005/06/14 15:34:19
RS2000mk2
i think the only other type i have seen is the fishnet style on the UK rs'? whats russ' like i havent looked that closely at it? are his original?

there is a tiny tiny hole on the drivers seat i might get my mum to stich up before it gets bad, and you can see on the side of the drivers chair they have stiched that up as it has been damaged when folding the seat forward?...

im gona do something about the door interior, im thinking something maybe simmilar to seans but i would like to keap in original[x2x]....

still deciding

did rob put all the momo stuff in the car? like the badge on the dash and you can see under the mirrors where there have been more stickers, the einstien painted over the stickers and then ripped them off! was this all MR RS' doing?

cheers
rhys
2005/06/14 19:42:28
2lt_Scort
Yeh all that stuff was on it when he got it. Think that was the doing of the owner when it was plated 'MR RS'.

Russ' is much finer pattern than what you've got. If not original, then they've been very well kept, coz they're in pretty schmick nick. Who knows.....

update: rhys just curbed his car![V][V][8~2]

not really bad, but still devo....

for the SA guys they will know where i am talking about, as you know it has been raining cats and very large dogs this week natrually i went a lil sideways coming out of the harvey norman carpark at Norlunga.

got completely crossed held it for what felt like forever then it all went down hill, ass swang round heading for curb pritty dam fast, saved it only just to bang my front tyre and front XE lip in the curb! now the lip has to be pot rivvited on again, not as easy as it sounds the whole underside of the RS lip is mangled from previous owners[V]

mainly more of a pride hurt!haha[8~2]

im gona take this chance to take my car of the road for a week, and fit my new rims, buy new brake pads, machine disks, give it a tune up and fiddle with a bunch of lil issues that hang around...plus actually clean my car[V]it looks like a shanti town at the moment[B)]

sorry for wrambling

Hehe, not good to hear Rhys, but I know the roads round there are quite slippery. Just like my street!

Damage your rim/wheel at all?

Rhys
2005/06/15 22:44:21
RS2000mk2
nah i managed to straighten my wheels out so the tyre just came to a sudden stop on the curb, at the moment my car still steers fine (touch wood). should see the front of my car, i have the XE lip all race taped on as half of it is wanting to come of but dont have time to fix it till saturday[V]haha

but those roads are even slipery in the dry![:u]

over all i was pritty damn lucky not to hit the road sign 2 foot away from my nose! the only thing going through my mind was FARK!!!!! just looking at it side on!haha

ohwell we all have ups and downs atleast its just superficial damage

if i manage to get a camera i will post some pics of my race tape effort

wow long time no post....

anyway i finally have got my efi project slowly underway.... the manifold, injectors, fuel rail etc minus the stock loom and dizzy.

i will clean it up and post some pics on the weekend. waiting for a email back from a guy regarding a worked head, larger valves, porting, fr31cam etc.... then ive just gotta buy a bunch of smaller equipment ranging from MS to a vl fuel pump, all to be bought in the next month or so

i will post when i make some further ground....its comming into the final month of year 12 at the mo so progress may be a lil slow[:I][V]

hmmm it seems progress may be a bit further away than originally thought[V][V][8~2]

i need to build up more money, hopefull getting a second job! but at the moment i feel i lack the electronic know how to do this set up right with MS, while still having the car on the road..... ive been looking into qoutes for getting a mechanic to do it etc and am leaning more towards this option as it will only be off the road for max a week and it will be done right, dyno and all![;^)] all in all it means more money spent so the further away it gets![8~2] spose such is life!haha

oh yeh rhys u wanna get me a job doing days at big W or whatever the name of that place you and daniel work!!??? i need cash!haha

second oh... do any of the SA guys have mechanic friends or any connections that could help with this matter??

Haha Woolies...,
Yeh I've just been slapped with extra hours coz were short workers, ones on holidays and ones sick.
Go in and speak to my manager. If you want to I'll pass on his details. Then we'd be up to 3Escort owners at work.

Ever considering buying a banger for a few hunge? Keep you going while you work on the RS?
Just read lotsa books and give it a go, will save you some cash.
I'd say mechanic would be charging on upside of $1500 to set fuel injection up and dyno.
Going through it at the mo myself but dont have to worry about building the computer, only hooking it up.

Rhys

RS2000mk2
yeh if you can give me his details that be great! as i finish school in 3 weeks and will have nothing to do but lurk on here all day! (not that it is a bad thing![;^)])

ive considered it, then considered how lazy i am and added the two together and all that would aventuate out of it would be
1)rs would not leave the shed for over a year!!![:I][V]

i rang a few places (4 or 5) and i got about around the 1000 mark (thats tunning it on the dyno but not hours perfecting etc) yes its a bit but it would be done right! and quick....

say this had nothing to do with electronics i would be fine, but i have always been as dum as a holden driver at electronics[8~2][V][;^)]

im still contemplating but would like to earn money while i contemplate....i would like to have it all done by around new years. i have been doing the maths all day and completely everything including buying parts, mechanic and adding a bit on as always it comes out to at cheapest $2200 to as much as $3500!!!![:u] but more around the $2500 area.

ohwell either way all the gear gets covered up in the shed till im a bringin in more cash![:p][:I]

EFI, hasn't got much further since last post about it. I've worked alot over the last few days but today after work I got engine mostly ready to be pulled out. Only gearbox bolts and starter motor wires to go. Weather permitting, it will be out tomorrow. Then I'll run the metal lines under car.
Its all a case of fundage as you'd know. ARP flywheel bolts, radiator re-co, most likely another new clutch, then $400-500 more for tuning of EFI. Ouch.

Good deal on the pump.

Cheers mate, yeh I reckon its is the original sticker. Motor from Esky Ghia has opened up a whole lot more power.

I've been focusing on others because I had 4cars and needed to get rid of them to keep parents happy and been flat out with Final Tafe exams and sheet.
Now im down to 2cars, but Cortina needs a leak fixed (water getting into cabin) and a decent stereo.

I used a durapro h/gasket theyre thicker than the felpro and cheaper although I do not say they are better. Mine still works out to be around 11:1 comp. I have it all worked out on an excel spreadsheet somewhere.

Was told once 11:1 cant be run on pump fuel?? Well mine runs pretty alright on PULP.
Lonsdale Head joint the one not on O'sullivans is a distributor for durapro.
Russ' RS is getting dent in door fixed soon then getting tuned. Mike Dale is no longer at Blackwood Dyno though.....

Doing Accounting at Tafe but finish this yr, applied for Uni next year, so even less $'s? =ouch for another 1.5yrs.

isnt 10.1 the standard comp.?? so u rekn i should just go speak to those guys and they will recomend something to my specifications??

how did russ ding the door??? why the change to UNI??

cheers

I believe standard comp is in the 9's.

Yeh if you go speak to them (they are bro's) they should be able to help you.

Russ didnt ding it, he had it dinged for him. Its been like it since it been on the road but just getting fixed now.

Change to Uni because can only go as far as Advanced Diploma at Tafe and to support my car habits later in life I figure a Degree will pay its self off in time. So thats why Im gunna do Uni.

OK this is a open offer to all SA guys........

i am lookin for as many people as possible to help me put my efi etc together!! i know there is a few guys out there good with electrics (my loom, MS etc) there are a bunch of guys that have done the efi conversion before and almost all of you have a very good understanding of a 2 door rs2000........

sometime after the new year i am lookin for help to create my beast, i will pay with beer of money if need be for help as it will be greatly appreciated!!

so please help me, email me or post up!!

grant
book me a flight and i'll help with the beer.

just have a go at it, read the ms site there is lots of info out there.

the relay box is easier then you think putting the wiring together.
fp = fuel pump, put wire there easy. at first looks like sheet. get some plugs, different coloured wires, draw it all down, once you have the plugs make the other end and connect to the realay board using the drawing you made to follow wires. thats your wiring harness done,

i have a ms file that will get you running and im sure andrew would donate his too.

would take you a few hours to make the wiring harness, assuming you buy all the right plugs and stuff unlike what i did.

plus if it breaks down you can fix it as you made it
2005/12/13 13:47:01
Mk2_2dr_2L
Agreed thats the best thing about doing the work yourself.. you built it so you know exactly how it works and how to fix it

Have a crack at the efi yourself Rhys.. once you get into it isnt as scary as first thought... im currently wiring in my cossie loom (i know its simpler but..) as long as you get a decent wiring diagram you will be right.. plus when you run into trouble there will always be someone willing to help

Good luck

Andrew
couldn't agree more with grant, read all the megasquirt pages and its quite straight foward. The only advice i'd give you is start with megasquirt as fuel only just until you get things running, then switch to a spark setup.

There is also pleanty of help here and also on the megasquirt forums (www.msefi.com) so if you haven't check them out have a look (i'm rs2000 on there).

Its a bit intimidating at first, but really you just have to find a spot for each sensor and solder in a wire for it.

WILL WORK FOR BEER!

Or will try to work under influence of beer....?

Hehe, Im a totally unqualified auto elec but do have experience in beer.......

Nah seriously I've never had to tackle a MS but had loom out of my car several times and done a fair bit of sparky work to it, but I don't rate my skills. We'll see how my conversion comes together.

I can probably offer advise on setting up pumps, fuels lines and clips, cheaper efi hose, surge etc if needed.

Not offering my services if your fixing it up to sell it! [}:)]

Funny you should ask, Im hopeful this weekend I can start it. Just need to find a spot for PCV to connect to and put in radiator.
Got manifold on today all wiring done (but not tested) all fuel system finished. Also made a few spare gaskets while I had manifold off.
Because of time of year, it won't get tuned till January when tuning joints re-open.
Not sure where, Mike Dales not at Blackwood Dyno anymore, and I was speaking to him at U-pullit few weeks back and he seemed to like the FR32cam alot so he should have bit of experience at getting most power out of it. but will still ring around.

you get the megasquirt ecu going?

or what are you doing there? i'd make sure it runs a bit incase something else goes wrong before you take it there

ditto..

or are they doing the wiring? If they are how much are they charging for the job, i'd imagine quite a bit since they have to make a lot of the loom up? Make sure (if they are) you take pleanty of wiring diagrams, pleanty of info about how to wire in the dizzy for ignition control and take the correct megatune version in on a disc (or laptop). Also be sure you have the correct firmware and all correct jumpers in place on the board (with V3 there are a lot of different jumper options!). I doubt they'll be familure with megasquirt which could work against you if they hit something they don't know how to do. Have you got a plug (and the correct bias resistors) for the dizzy?
2006/02/13 15:23:30
grant
need to check you also have the right resistors in for the right sensors, ie mat, water temp etc or will give the ecu wrong signals and it wont go.

i know for the sierra water temp sensor you will have to change the resistor. or the car wil think its 4degree celcius all the time.

event he small things wiht efi will make bit impact if wrong, what have you got for ISCV? narrow or wide lambda? full variable tps? all come into play when tuning.

i hope you've got a lambda installed before you put the extractors in

Lambda = oxygen sensor you don't need one but really why wouldn't you as it is a must for home tuning (warmup etc) and it is a good indicator if something goes wrong as well as increacing economy.

Grant is spot on about changing the resistors too, didn't occur to me as i used GM sensors instead. The other option is to use easytherm to calibrate them, but i have no experience with it.

Make sure you include this schematic for wiring the dizzy, i'd assume you haven't tested the dizzy so don't know which one to use;

Download Attachment: msns-schematic1.jpg
28.78 KB

Also make sure they know how to configer megatune for MSnS.. it is simple but not 100% obvious, it will just appear that your ms doesn't work if you get it wrong.

I'll be interested to see how they get on with it..

is a dyno tuner going to know what ohm resister to use??
he will then have to find where it goes on the ecu and solider it on.
after he finds one from an electronics shop, not the sort of things people have lying around. and hope he doesnt break the 3 fuel pump fets off the board in the process.

remember he is going to have to read the same stuff as you would to do this, so why not learn yourself and not pay for it.
a bit of time you can do all this yourself and know its done right.

i have a feeling that with no o2 sensor you need a different type of code that guesses the reading by working out tps vs map readings.

im sure they will run a lambda at the tailpipe so that wont get your spot on readings if you allow for holes in exhaust joints.

are you running a megasquirt relay box??? is going to be a whole lot of spaghetti cabling and relays if you didnt. [:u] actually i'd hate to think as there is relays to control fuel pumps only etc.

now i follow, yeh i am having them set up the o2censor........

i have been talkin to em ongoing about it, and am suplying them with all the information possible! thanks for the map andrew, i havent seen that excact one.....

i would do it myslef but time is a real issue, this is a daily driver and i dont want nor can fit another car in the driveway to use during this project.... also i have a cruise coming up along with all ford sunday etc so need to get the car back on the road..... plus i saved up the money to do this, this way so may aswell spend it, only live once right[;^)][88]

well it will be interesting to see how they go, rhys (2ltscort) just had his car in there and i have spoken to danny M and he knows one of the guys in there so he will be able to help a little but more so we will see..........really hope they dont f@#k it up tho!haha

no o2 sensor isn't a problem, megasquirt only uses it when its not under load for cruising economy (open or closed loop, i forget which). If the engine is under load it uses the values straight from the tables. You can just disable o2 correction. as you say having it anywhere except the extractor base leaves you open to leaks.

Keep us posted with how they get on rhys

Rhys I personaly think you need to be more patience yes they told you a time but 1. they obviolsly have never worked with ms before so they would have to learn how to program it and all. 2. they are running a business with other customers, as cars like yours come in (ones that need quality time spent on them to get things right) time gets set aside per day or whenever they have spare time to work on them then the quality work gets done yeah you could have had it back in 2 weeks but you'd probably be very dissapoined with the result and have it back the next day. In my situation I had everything basicly done fuel lines manifolds on all that need ed was wiring and tuning and it sat at the dyno place for nearly 2 months, but the end result was fantastic, so I guess im saying to just chill out and reap the rewards when its done properly not a slaped up job just cause they were being rushed by the customer.

im not being a prick to them, not being rude or anything to them as i wont them to do a good job first time so i dont hassle them by ringing very day etc...

but as bad as it may sound it isnt my issue if they dont have time or other cars, when i time is set for good customer service reasons they should stick to it, i work in that industry and that is the main key to a happy customer......

but personally i dont like the above, but that is what is tought forced in your face from a early stage in marketing/sales etc...

but i am happy to let them take there time and do it right as long as they are working not letting it sit in the corner and just working on it in spair time.......regardless of how much i am paying what need doing i am never the less a paying customer and should be treated with the same respect as any other......

i am waiting till the friday before all ford day before i really crack the sheets, i dont want to but fairs fair right???

It hasnt been that long?

How much roughly are you paying them?? it might have been easier to buy a name branded ecu ie [x2x] umm motec (others) that they know how to program/wire and worked out the same cost.

now for these guys with no knowledge of the ms i would presume are having trouble, did you supply them with the build instructions for the ecu which runs through points to check for problems. As i said earlier even small things like the resistors for sensors will play a major part in operation.
did you upload the s19 file to the ecu before you gave to them or are they handling this??
i forgot to load into mine and was having great trouble getting it to work.

I hope you not paying hourly rate as some guy will need to sit on a computer all day long and read the MS site so he can work out what the f@#k all the things mean.

if they havent said much to you by now then i'd guess another few weeks more at least

can fully understand the MS i am in no way gettin upset with them regarding that as it is kinda hrad to get ur head around...

but, i rang them wed last week and they said they have started the loom and talked for hours about this and that but the jist of it was they had started the loom, telling me also that they need to replace some fuel lines.....

rang them monday: we have been working on the loom (looked at it) but will let go due to lack of knowledge wit MS, but when asked about the fuel lines which is a 10 minute job for them low and behold they havent done it...

its just that they are blaming it on the ecu when they still havent dont things that take minutes, but save hours in the end.....

time, its not like its been months with out it but it just anoys me that they set the time and didnt ring to tell ME that it will be longer....i had to wait and when i figured they were not gonna call i rang them and got those stories....

OK, i think out of respect to the company should probly stop going on about this, it will get done when its done and thats it........

thanks for all the input i'll just have to wait and see.....[:I][88][88]

yes. The flow rate needed is proportional to horsepower output. For a standard engine they'll be fine but for yours they may not flow enough to support the extra horsepower..

Nope? No idea. I don't really understand duty cycles etc of injectors. Two dyno joints have had the car. The first was supposed to check them, change a pintle cap and make sure they were good to go, but as I'd already installed them and they did a sheet job I doubt they even removed them to check.

Other dyno joint did say anything? I'd think that if car was running lean at higher rpm they'd say? or suggest bigger injectors. Least I hope they'd tell me that.

Feel free to give me a lesson on duty cycles etc.

No problems so far, except Ive experienced a miss at just over 2000rpm when just cruising. Only a couple of times in 500kms

Cheers
Rhys
2006/01/03 22:12:19

Duty cycle is just the % of revolution time the injector is open. 0% is closed the whole time and 100% is open the whole time. Generally you want to stay under 85% to be safe

The thing that got me started on all this is theoretically with normal fuel pressure to make 130-150hp flywheel while staying under 85% i'd need 210-230cc/min injectors, i'm not sure but i think sierra and camira ones are 160 or 180 (i'm using camira).

I'm going to datalog mine tomorrow to double check its still ok..

The to do list is very do-able. If they know you need the car, they should be prioritising it be now.

Make up adapter yourself. Piece of absolute pisss.

Then map/tune whole day......bobs ya uncle.

Any word on when it will be done? They're taking their sweet time with it. You'd think if they were too busy they'd have said so right from the start, when you're paying big $$$ you'd think they'd be trying to complete the job on time and keep you happy..

ive been in contact with them the whole time......

basically it is a mix of lazyness and experimenting

lazy explains itself

experamenting, they have had alot of guys asking them about MS etc as it is a cheap viable option over a motec etc... so they are using mine to come to terms with the program and everything else to do with it....this im more than happy for them to do that as it will benifit me, BUT if they took the lazyness out and just left the experimenting i would be happier....

maybe this week (should be done) but i doubt it....

Ummm I feel your pain mate. However if they said they can do the work in a time frame then that's it. You are not there to pay for them to learn. That is something they do in their own time with their own money. If they can't do the work, then don't take it on.
Do what I do. Mention you have the progress of the car posted on a website and they usually move their bums alittle.
Ever since the introduction of ricer crap there has been alot of tuners pop up that can't do what they promise unless it's plug in and play. I feel sorry for the old school guys who can do what they promise that loose business to guys with trendy names and skylines parked out front. Sorry, my 2 cents.

I think we both pissed off the same God my friend. My car is due to go back to the same sparky that did 2 hours work in 8 weeks on the car. This is the same bloke who left my car get covered in dust and dead bugs for 8 weeks straight whilst he did F...all. Why am I letting it go back you ask...??? Cause he has a good rep (we shall see in time) and I'm over seeing my car in the near future. So I recommend talking 2 deep breaths and let nature take it course. You will loose more sleep than those bone heads. As a South Aussie by birth, I take a keen interest in what happens on your side of the border. And with all the SA boys on this site, I'm sure they have lost alot of business.
Also trust me. Within the first 1/2 hour of having your car back and enjoying it, it'll all seem like a distant memory.

ok people this is the delema, andrew may be able to add some input aswell

Shean rang me today and he explained how we had had some major progress in that the car had been started and all the sensors and fuel pump where up and running and getting readings etc......

all was well to aparen'tly a program that he used stuffed it all up? froxe his comp and wont let him read the ecu again?? andrew can maybe elaborate....

my drama is this

he says he has had enough and that he is loosing to much money/time on my car, he has given me a altimatum

if he cannot fix this issue soon i.e before Sunday he wants me to pay him $850 for the work already put in and take my car incomplete!!

the original price was gonna be $800 and that was f@#king complete!!!running all good!

i need some options, andrew is trying to fix the ecu side of things but i need some help on the legal side of things....

i am not going to pay the whole sum i may pay some but i want to take this further if they want to play like that

if he rings me and wants it gon i will express this and if he says so then i will speak to a lawer....

all i want is my f@#king car back, i was just going to lay low and let em finish it in there own time now, but now he is atacking me it shouldt me my problem if he is having trouble with something i am paying him to solve it....

what do people think? this is a real brief over view of it as the whole story is a 7 week saga i cannot write out

P.S andrew, Shean said he will contact you, either later tonight or morn tomoz.....hopefully! set him straight

Two points of view.

1. The car is causing too much trouble and will haemorrhage cash to a most uncomfortable level.

2. He is actually incompetent and should never have laid a hand on your car in the first place.

Harsh, but reality!!!!!!!!!!!
2006/03/23 23:12:33
RS2000mk2
he was fully warned about the MS before so if he was unsure of it he should not have taken it on....

he did, stating he has a basic understanding of it as his brother has used a few.....

i trusted in him as he said the above and MS isnt that hard to come to terms with once you get started.

and with point 1 is more his point of view, but could have been everted if he actauly took me serious at the start and did what i said and research the program not leave it till now

cheers

RS027
Sorry to say mate, but a legal fight you will probably loose. He will blame the MS manufacturer or anything else except him. My opinion is to offer him what you consider is justifiable for the work he has done, but you will most likely find he will stick with his $850.
So pay it and hope he has not f***ed the ECU so either yourself or someone else can work on the car.
This will not be what you want to hear, but I think it will be the cheapest option in the end.
Quotes are only really legally fightable if he supplied and fitted all the parts. When you start sourcing outside parts for a 3rd party to fit, it can get really sticky.
2006/03/23 23:59:53
RS2000mk2
^^ yeh that is eexactly what i have been going thru in my head trying to find a way round it....

the only way i can contest the $850 is that the work done on it is not sufisiant to that quote.....all they done was fuel lines, and a real dodgy loom that isnt fully complete so i hear...

aparen'tly he has a run down of the costs soooo.....

yeh it is a f@#ked situation.....i could work on the approach that if i speak to a lawyer first and make it seem like i have acase they would back down.....just loose ideas that i dont really wanna have to do.....

i still maintain this: all i want is my car back f@#k all the politics!

well we will see what tomorra unvails......im off to try and sleep

Rhys,

Assuming it comes to that (and it hasn't yet, stay positive!) You still have rights, and as far as i know they are breaching them big time (from the small amount of law i've done!).

Arrange a meeting with someone from the consumer protection place www.ocba.sa.gov.au and they will tell you your rights and what to do. DO NOT pay anything until you have spoken to them.

It will come down to whether you or them are in the right. My belief is you will be in the right, you may owe them something but not $850.

As an aside AFAIK they can't legally hold your car against your will.

do you have a written quote for $800 competed? with what competed was? that will be a big help if you do. i feel for you big time. not a good postition to be in, as i can imagine he will now not let you take the car until you have paid? good luck with it
2006/03/24 09:13:32
Phil
Rhys,I happen to have alot of experience with this type of issue through my work as a Service Dept Manager for a major multi-franchise car dealership here in Sydney.I also have contacts at the MVRIA(Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Association) and The Office of Fair Trading in the automotive dept.If you have a written quote your sweet,If you dont, put it on a statuatory declaration when and where and howmuch you were quoted.Secondly, call me(0409990885)and I will tell you in detail how to handle these guys. From my experience, they should be handing the car over to you and not charging you if they can't complete the job they entered into the argreement to do.

Thirdly, just my opinion, and I say this to all who are travelling the path you are, take note of Rhys experiences and be careful when deciding to use more obscure products(ecu's i.e.megasquirt).There are dollars to be saved on the hardware, but unless you are able to tune these items and/or service them yourself you will certainly end up regretting your decision to use the product.Rhys, unless you can find a guaranteed confident tuner,I would sell the MS and get yourself a Microtec or something along the more well known budget line of ecu's.At least there is phone support and state offices in Australia if you or your tuner have any issues. The chances are,you wont need any of this assistance as there are alot more people with experience with local products out there.

To anyone out there who is likely to take offence to these comments,DON'T,take them as intended, that is to help guys who dont know any better to avoid being caught in Rhys situation.MS maybe a good unit but for the beginner,it is still to obscure in Austalia.

Cheers all,

Phil.

Its basic contact consumer affairs first! find out if you have any options.
If C.A. can help you need to find any written quotes paper work relating this will work to your advantage greatly.
C.A. will contact the company in question if you have a case, The business owner loses money 4 C.A. to investigate! so B.O. may contact you with a truce!
If C.A. cannot help don't panic ! next time you contact the business in question just mention that you have spoken to C.A. and you may bluff them into folding! keep ur best poker face!
I hope that no one who works there reads this[88]
good luck buddy!

Rhys, this is bloody awful. I too have played the stupid excuses game for months, only to not get what I paid for in the end anyway. The guys seem to have covered most of my thoughts above...
a: Phark em, Don't give them a cent.
b: Follow up any legal options, (I would probably take up phils offer..)

Honestly, where do people get off. At the point he realises that he doesn't know how to do the job, he puts the price up and gives it back??? WTF is that. I did use the legal approach, and was fortunate to have a lawyer friend who took some basic action without starting the meter for me. I believe the ole legal firm letterhead still packs a punch.
Either way, I sincerely hope you get your car back with no charge.

this is anoptherr option i may face if i recieve a non working car back.

Unfortunately it is true megasquirt is still obscure in Australia. For the DIY'er there is a lot of support on www.msefi.com with answer usually in a few hours. So really only someone in Rhys's situation suffers(with the guy not willing to get on there and read/ask). In america there are a number of garages building, installing and tuning them - Australia will get there eventually. Just to clarify though Phil, any dyno tuner will be able to tune megasquirt. It is the same as any other ecu in the way it works once set up. Its the setup that is harder as it involves more of a knoledge of how it works/what you want.

I enjoy the DIY of it and i like the fact that i understand how everything (including ms itself) works. Its not some backyard product (as most think), but its not a plug and play motec.

Rhys if/when you have to get your car back let me know and i'll help you over email get it set up (i'm sure grant will too). As it is the tedious bits (most of the wiring and fuel lines) are done, assuming they're still there when you get it back! I would, however, recommend installing fuel only first until you understand it.

Remember an amateur built the arc, professionals built the titanic. Go DIY!!

Agree with Phil and is what i said earlier, if you knew was going to cost $800 to get going???? plus the rest for the ecu why not buy a name branded ecu and be done with it?? [x2x]

Sorry but the whole point of it is for DIY to save the cost of setting up etc, and im sure these guys dont appreciate wasting 7 weeks on it. Had you even tested the ecu was working before you gave to them?? might be a start it could be a dodgey one and no wonder they haven't achieved anything. All those little resistors and pieces can cause a lot of problems and many hours of thinking, which should be done in the shed at night drinking beer swearing at the dog, not by them trying to run a business.

He made a mistake by saying he could complete it nobodys perfect, but a main chip that has been overheated when solidered onto the board he will have no idea about, nor anyone else that hasnt had expirence with them. These things do happen as i found out somethings the long and hard way myself.

About legal action, you haven't had your car done to it what they said fair enough, dont pay $800. I would offer him half as an appreciation of the time and effort he has put into it. If he is charging you more then obviously he has spent a lot more time then he estimated on it. Remember they could have said no and done 6 other cars in the meantime, think of his losses too and finish it at that.
Plus if you get sheetty at him whos to say he wont undo some work that has been done which is what i'd be doing in his case not to mention some destruction to your car.

Grant has made a few good points there, dont get the mechanic off side, no Matter how pissed you get. the line of work i am in, when we get agro clients refusing to pay thats when we dont hold back and take legal action against them to recover our money. we do have a signed contract which makes it different in our situation, but try to keep it at least civil with him. you dont know how they could react if you go in shouting consumer affairs and the like...

Rhys, there is no such thing as Dept of Consumer Affairs in Australia anymore,so dont threaten them with that.I would contact the MVRIA and Dept of Fair Trading and make some enquiries only at this stage, you dont need to lodge a complaint if you dont wish at this stage. Then if the guy doesnt want to play ball, let him know you have started the ball rolling at both these organisations.See what he does.It will probably be the MVRIA that will investigate as Fair Trading do more warranty related complaints.

Phil i thought he should go to www.ocba.sa.gov.au . On their site they say this;

quote:

Lodging a Complaint with Consumer Affairs
Please note: We can only assist with complaints where the goods and services are advertised and purchased in South Australia - for those outside South Australia please refer to your local consumer/business affairs agency.

Before you lodge a complaint with us you need to prove that you have discussed your problem with the trader and that you have written to the trader attempting to resolve the dispute.

To discuss your complaint please telephone one of our Consumer Affairs Officers on (08) 8204 9777 or (for South Australian Country Callers only - excluding mobiles) telephone 131 882.

Once you have lodged a complaint with us, a Consumer Affairs officer will be in contact with you and the trader involved. The officer will try to resolve the dispute through negotiation, conciliation and mediation.

If the dispute cannot be resolved to everyone's satisfaction you may have to take the Matter to court.

That page was last updated 10-8-05, how recently did it change[?]

It could be my mistake.NSW definately dont have a consumer affairs department,it has all changed over to fair trading/cttt/MVRIA for motor vehicle complaints.I would have thought this type of stuff was national, musnt be.

no intention of opening up a can of worms! just have to be carefull i guess when it comes to legal Matters...

most laws to do with consumers are state legislated. NSW is seperate, Vic is too, QLD and Tas use the same, note sure of WA, SA, NT and the ACT

(i work for a finance company in the recoveries/collection/legal side)

grant the 800 is for this:
complete fuel lines
complete loom and sensors
and a comlete dyno tune

would have been eexactly the same price regardless of the unit........say it was a wolf etc i would have paid upwards of a grand then $800 on top.

anyway thanks for all the input and support, worse comes to worse then i take grants advice and start drinkin in the shed with her and a laptop while on the phone to andrew!haha

Best of luck mate hope it all works out...

this is the reason i do all my own work... (well i get "professionals" to do the machine work etc and i do the rest..)

some companies can not be trusted or they just dont care.. i know a business has to make money.. but they shouldnt quote if they can not come up with the goods...

hope the rs comes back firing!! at the price of $800 i know how you feel.i have been done several times and i just took it on the chin.. gave me a the drive to get stuck into things myself. and you know with a bit of time and patients and some help from people off the forum or friends you will have everything under control!!

thats the benefits of this site.. when i was putting the cossie in the green Escort... People like Racemap/phil helped me out and i really appreciated it, great advice and help on a Saturday afternoon over the phone.. CHEERS guys..

so Rhys basically all i want to say is once you have the car back get stuck into it if its not running. and work it out you will be fine and it will RUN!![;^)]

no offence taken but maybe back off a little! there are a lot of people who can't do it themselves for all sorts of reasons. i'd be getting somebody else to do it for me, i really dont have the time (and not the foggiest idea what to do) plus it is only helping others with all the problems faced if anybody else goes down this track...

no offense taken russ as i know you have been thru something similar...

but ur statement is a lil contradictory......i didn't have the time to do it and i can't be with out it for 6 weeks but have somehow barely managed.....

this is so because i thought it he would stick to his freaking statement and actually do it in the time alocated....

and for publishing it on here it doubles as 2 things....
1) proof
2) to help any others in a asimilar situation........also why not i have recived alot of help from people in this thread....

no offense mate but maybe you could email me or say something in person to me before doing this?no?

Rhys,
Might be a silly idea or not even possible as i don't know much about MS, but if they got your car running, is it as easy as Grant or Andrew sending you a file of their current map, then you load it on so car drives (just) then drive it somewhere else for a dyno or get same guys to just dyno it?

If they could get the car running there would be no problem, ms is the same as any other ems to tune, they can't even get that far which really is a joke, IMHO it reflects badly on them. Rhys will be able to get it going though, and as you say get a rough map loaded to drive it to have it tuned.

This is assuming the current crew doesn't get it going, which could still happen.

I'll see what backups i have when i get home from uni. I'm not using the same firmware as you anymore (grant doesn't either i don't think) so it will be luck whether i saved one or not. The newer firmware has much better AE so i use that now.

He will have to change a lot of options as i'm using different injectors and ignition setup to you so it won't even start with my map.

As a tuner building maps is meant to be his speacialty. The methods and proscesses ms uses are no different to any other ems! The map i built for mine started first time and i was able to drive it, was just very rich. For him i'd recommend doing it that way, it will take about 20 mins and will mean he will know where/what/why everything is. Its in the megamanual how to do it.

This is what i was going to get you to do if you did it yourself, just with my VE table, spark table and warmup settings. Then drive it gently somewhere to have it all done properly.

but anyway enough rambling, i'll see if i have a backup one

hey mate welcome to the forum, i got my rims from a shop the other side of town called mag wheel and tyre center. i chose 15*7's cause that is basically as wide as you can go wit standard arches and i chose 15 as i wasn't a huge fan of big wheels on the RS but now i have seen a few other with em the 16's are starting to grow on me[:I][:o)]

price wize it cost me about $215 or $225 i can't remember then add on the price of rubber.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Also good luck with getting yours fired up.
Went to see my car and they can't get it to "Trigger". I know nothing about green steam, but they are working hard on it. The Wolf hand controller looks great in the car though I must say.

Get an old palm and use that (thats what i have) or get a megaview.. both have screens with gauges, dials and readings, allow tuning and make the car look more rice [88] The palm IIIc even has a colour display.

[V] Rhys, I would not give them that if the car is in their hands, lot of smart comments that will only piss them off more. I've never even left my car over night anywhere, no way i'd be leaving it somewhere for 3 - 4 months, also half your $300 rego down the hole.

Id go there mon morning, put it on a tow truck tell them to freak off and take it home dont pay anything. They wouldn't give the slightest about your life, family. You are the one that owns the 25 yo car so if your after reliability go buy something else, they wont buy that story.

Put a weber on it then you can drive it, work on the efi off the car. the time you spent writing the letter you could have solved half the problems yourself.
Not keen on it, theres a million other people that would be able to work on it, ie. a mobile sparky could sort all your wiring out, you'll probably want the dissy set and running before you start playing with the efi anyway which the weber would help.

It even says it is strongly recomended that the car is running, timing etc before you start playing with the efi MS gear.

Its taken them this long to achieve nothing so what's the letter going to do?

I have to agree....I know your pissed, but a letter like that probably isn't the best way to go.
If thats a run down on how things are supposed to go it sounds like a late night and a few beers and a bit of head scratching in your garage may get it started as the letter seemed to explain it. Then it's just a tune.

Rhys,
Its up to you, if the manual is quite in depth etc then i don't see why not. After Uni exams could probably sit down and suss it out. Diodes and resistors etc send me up poo poo creek so if the manual is clear enough to say what size and where, then probably do-able.

i'd agree with (the other) Rhys and grant too. They've had their time.. Rhys says he'll help you, print off all the manuals and directions you have and follow that. It won't take more than a day or two. Me or grant can email you a map to get you going.

The directions/pics i emailed to you were meant for you to go down and check it over yourself and have a crack at troubleshooting it, they weren't really meant to be chopped into dot points and given to the tuners.

If they do get it going (using that letter) they'll be waiting another 80 days for the next set of directions. [88]

hey grant or andrew, went in and spoke to him and he has actually been doing work, he tried everything on that list and it would work besides this....

apparently the signal is being re-routed by the MS box to the earth lead? he says he double checked all the wireing and it comes down to a micro chip (or whatever there called) that he rekns must be posotioned in the wrong spot, wrong way round or sumthing that is doing this to the signal. this seems to be the only issue now, if that is sussed he is sure i will get a RPM reading and can start my car....

is there a logical explenation for this with MS? is it just a simple case of changing this lil chip? or is it sumthing more sinister?

also i have pictures of the uit open so is it possible to look at it and tell which one is the issue/out of place?

its not a chip its a diode. The chance of it being anything actually wrong with the board is slim to none, it should have been tested and loaded with correct firmware when built. But hopefully the correct jumper will fix it

i don't know about sending the rpm signal to earth.. the rpm signal operates between 12v and earth

while she is here lucas, chris and a little bit of bantering from the side lines from me are slowly doing the leafs, chuckin in a nice set of 2 inch reset pano's.

here are a few pics of progress, gotta go get some new bushes later int he week....

The manual is here
http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mtabcon.htm

specifically this page will tell you what your board needs
http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/V3assemble.htm

Have a go with electronic ignition, its not that hard. If after a few hours your not getting tach then give up, don't accept defeat so easy

any help appreciated greatly!

Andrew
quote:

50. Next you need to make a decision. There are two input circuits for the tach signal:

* The Hall/optical/etc. circuit takes the square wave input from a Hall sensor, optical sensor, or points. It can also be used for triggering off the coil (but only if you are not controlling ignition timing).
* The VR circuit takes the AC signal from a variable reluctor sensor and converts it to a square wave for use by MegaSquirt.

The Hall circuit can be built two ways - for a digital signal such as a Hall sensor or optical sensor (step 50.a.) or for a coil negative terminal (50.b.). these are the same circuit, but different components.

[blah blah blah...]

#50b For triggering off the coil negative terminal/points:

1. Install and solder R12 {390H-ND, 390 Ohm, ½ watt, orange-white-brown}. This is installed between the resistors you have just been installing and the CPU socket. This resistor should be mounted roughly 1/8" (2mm) above the surface of the PCB. Also, the value of this resistor may have to be changed if you trigger from the negative side of the coil depending on application - start with the supplied value, and if gets hot while the engine is running, then increase the value, in steps, up to 10K (like 470 Ohms, 560 Ohms, 680 Ohms, 1K, ...), or even more in some applications (consult the MegaSquirt Forums list for advice). However, do not adjust this resistor on assembly, unless you have a good reason to do so.
2. Install and solder R13 {4.7KEBK-ND, 4.7k, yellow-violet-red}. This is located 3 places close to the heat sink than R12 (which you just installed).
3. Install and solder D1 {1N4001DICT-ND}. This is the famous Wing Diode - you will want this if you are triggering off the negative side of the coil - such as with points (reduces tach signal false-triggering).
4. In the place of D2, install a 22V or 24V Zener diode {1N4748ADICT-ND}, in the reverse of the indicted orientation (i.e., put the band at the other end rather than that indicated on the silk screen). Note that the stim will not be able to send a signal through this diode. If you have installed it, jumper it for operating on the stim.
5. Install/solder opto-isolator U3 {160-1300-5-ND, 4N25). This is located near the center of the PCB. If you have bought a socket (AE7300-ND or AE10021-ND ) for this component, solder it in place instead, then insert U3 into the socket. Observe the proper orientation (notch matches PCB - towards the heat sink, or dot for pin #1 which is the square pad on PCB at the notched end of the silk screen). If neither are there, hold the chip so that the writing is facing you and the right way around. Pin #1 is on the bottom left.
6. Install and solder C11 {399-2075-ND or 399-4326-ND, 0.01µF, 103 marking}. This installs at the top of the row of 'vertically' oriented capacitors above "Bowling" in the copyright notice.
7. If you are going to use the negative side of the coil to trigger MegaSquirt (I.e., you are not using ignition timing control), then install and solder C30 {399-2083-ND or 399-4353-ND, 0.22µF, 224 marking}.
8. If you are going to use the negative side of the coil to trigger MegaSquirt (I.e., you are not using ignition timing control), then install and solder C12, the Ed capacitor (399-2017-ND, 0.001 µF, 102 marking}. This is located above "Bowling" in the copyright notice. The value of this capacitor may need to be increased if there are noise problems with the tach signal - values up to 0.1uf will work. The 0.001uf value is a good starting point.

Do compare that lot with what you have already yourself but from what i can see from the pics you emailed you need to:

Install a 22/24V zener diode in D2 (step 4)
Install c12 (step 8)
Install c30 (step 7)

you're decided on fuel only are you? [V][V]

RS2000mk2
andrew, well right now i am going with it, i just dont know why it isnt doing spark? michael did every thing you suplied him with and it was still not registering the rpm signal with in Ms unit itself???? and he has had a electrician go over the wireing saying it is all correct??? had the dizzy tested and that is all fine? so i am left at a stumps end?

the trucky when droping my car off gave me the number of some apparent wizz with this kinda poo poo, not technically MS but he knows fuel injection. i may call him and get him out to have a browse at it. but i am far from optimistic that ever seeing it running fuel AND spark together will ever happen...

this is why i feel that fuel only with points for now would be the best option? would with any luck get it on the road as soon as i can find time to work on it...

yeh so basically im clutchin at anything now just to see it run again!

mark, haha its a pipe dream but one day..........[:p]

Rhys where you up to with it?. what's the deal?

If your first time with it i'd suggest going fuel only, download megatune version 2 not 2.25 after coming back into it i must admit 2.25 has a poo poo load more features, half you wont need but the menus are spread out over 2 or 3 which makes it confusing.
I have an old firmware too if you need and probably use my old MS file to get it running.
FFS buy a relay box and be done with it also a stimulator and test it.
Relax box is the go and will sort most of you wiring probs, tach signal should run run from the + or - from the coil. one wire simple.

Have you read step by step through the build manual? and checked off everything after you check and tripple check it?
2006/07/07 07:44:51
Andrew
Rhys i've just re read the build manual, check the correct tach signal line is connected. This could be it if the bloke who built yours didn't bother to hook anything up.. it didn't occur to me at the time as by default it should be wired up correct, but worth a check..
quote:

For the VR sensor:

* Jumper VRIN to TACHSELECT on the bottom side of the PCB (near the DB37, opposite the heat sink.)
* Jumper TSEL to VROUT (Or VROUTINV if you want the VR input to be inverted) on the bottom side of the PCB, near the center.

OR (Do NOT install both sets of jumpers, chose one set or the other!)
For the Hall sensor, optical sensor, coil negative terminal or points:

* Jumper XG1 to XG2 on the bottom side of the PCB, near the 40 pin socket,
* Jumper OPTOIN to TACHSELECT on the bottom side of the PCB, near the DB37 connector, opposite the heat sink.
* Jumper TSEL to OPTOOUT on the bottom side of the PCB, near the center.

They are all on the bottom of the pcb. They decide which of the circuits is used, you want the 'Hall sensor, optical sensor, coil negative terminal or points' one, whichever method you choose. If these are missing, your hall dizzy will start working!!
2006/07/07 11:18:17
Andrew
There is also a note to read, basically double check step 52 in the build manual is all correct.. but this could be it

Megatune requires windows 95+. It would be desirable to use megatune.

However for linux and mac there is megatunex
http://megatunix.sourceforge.net/

quote:
MegaTunix is developed on Linux (Gentoo Linux specifically), but does work on all other Linux distros (Assuming the proper libraries are installed), FreeBSD and Mac OS-X (with fink and the necessary support libraries installed) and now Win32 platforms as of 0.6.1 and newer.

I've never used or had anything to do with megatunex but it is supported on the forum

This the bush is stopping you?
Feed the leaf into bracket first(angle it so one side of bush feeds in)and twist!
Then fit the rear leaf mount last.

2006/10/07 17:54:37

And if all else fails get a jack under it to 'press' it in. But watch bush gets its edges within the mount or you'll wreck the bush if ya start jacking.

but anyways after alot of freaking with the timing she started and ran on her own which is a huge step!!! gave up on spark for now half way thru the night, will eventually come back to it.

there are a few issues we noticed while she was running they are:

a freak load of oil came out and on to the floor, and from a brief look it seems that it all cam from the dip stick where it wasn't pushed in right, is there any other reason besides that oil may piss out on the right had side of the motor?

and my second which is my main drama is my oil breather on top of the rocker cover is forsing large amounts of air out? and on more than a occasion amouunts of splattered oil aswell.......WHY?? is there a set reason for this?

anyway even with its problems i am still so stoked to finally here her again (even tho she is sounding like poo poo right now). next step is find out these issues then try get her into a dyno!

The dipstick is certainly a place for oil to come out, on the engine I just built I have the oil pressure line right next to it, so check that for being in nice and tight and also no damage to the line. It actually sends oil all the way up to the dash, i found this out when the connection at the dash failed on my RS once previously.

As for the oil breather, sounds like the PCV isn't working right, it should be regulating block pressure, not the oil filler cap / breather. Check the vacuum setup in the car, soak the PCV in fuel, sounds like the block is pressurising and forcing air out the top to me.

Good luck with it all, my RS engine started for the first time today and had to troubleshoot a few small ones too.

took it to the sparky he tested it and she is freaked, checked it my self later just to make sure and the hall effect sensor is dead, which would explain the lil bit of spark at the start then dying and nevr to be seena gain. (sensor was on her way out)

so tomorra i am going to try get my hands on another sensor and have her fixed by Wednesday at the latest as i want to spend thur nite setting her all up again and get it started on elec ignition. hopefully we get a reliable start so i can do a little bit of programming on the comp then send her off to another dyno tuner by early next week........(this is all a very optemistic aproach!!haha)

so Rhys, Glenn if your interested in lending a hand again thrusday nite or Friday is the go[:x)]

Could you not just get a sensor off a Volvo Bosch dizzy? Then swap a few wires back from fuel only to make it fuel and spark and bobs ya cross dressing auntie that likes to frequent maslins.....

Can't make it Thurs or Fri, I gota work as I've got both Sat/Sun off for my BDay.

yeh ive got to change those few wires then change the setting in the box and on the comp and yep bob is my cross dressing auntie who loves it at mazzies[88][88]

but which wires? it is a mess there now ive forgot which wires we disconected and where there at?

so maxrs, thats a no for whitewalls?[88]

There was atleats one at 'my local' it last time I was there.
Wires i cut close to plug in drivers side. Reconnect matching colours, then follow diagram to get engine bay side correct. Though they should all still be there, just swapped for fuel only.

hey i got a challenge for ya!!!!!

can you get the car running and reliable before 50 pages

im sayn no whitewalls...

Rhys

Since you have the old dizzy back in get it running fuel only first. Get the laptop connected and get the hang of how it all works.

If the car isn't running with fuel only, or the laptop isn't connecting a different dizzy isn't going to solve anything. It will only introduce more possible places for there to be errors.

andrew

ps. My vote is for no whitewalls

no idea why the comp isnt connecting on fuel only, but it works when i go fuel and spark.

the car wont start and i can't get it to start on points, got it once but that musta been a fluke cause she aint starting now......thats why i figured get it going with spark as elec is alot more reliable, easy than pissing round with points all night?.....

Glenn, hahaha doubt that is gonna happen, i can see the next few pages full of, why wont it start kinda poo poo......haha

Lucas,
Are you forgetting the original? 'Granny'? She's still wearing whitewalls and getting around up north. Also my mate put whitewalls (double white line) on his 2dr Mk1 few years back also and the guy he sold it to still has them on. It lives over Trott Park way.

You've got healthy competition

only my opinion, but if a car really can pull of white walls it needs chrome and stockies (original wheels) not mags or colour coded or black bumpers.....
so in saying that cars from b4 the 80's seem to suit them better....
id love to run white or red walls on mine but i dont run the bumpers... if i ran the bumpers and they were chrome it would be all original, and i recon the walls would suit...

but like i said this is just my opinion... if u like em do it!!!!

Ermmm not sure what you mean there Rhys? Dizzy teeth off by two? Rotor was lining up with no.1 which it was and I tested it with a test light to make sure it was perfect, thats how we got it running.

Only thing that was off was timing because it stalled whilst timing light was on it and turned too far causing it to stall.

Good to hear its running though

had it running most of the day trying to get it running right, but..........yeh there are alot of these with this build....

can't get the car to idle under about 2500 rpm, adjusted inside the comp, all seems right there, adjusted the idle control thingy next to the TB. all seems as it should be running at normal idle????

occasionally i would get it to run around 1500 but only for about 5 seconds.....

why is it doing this? is there a common reason?

im out of fuel it was running that much so tomorra morning hopefully i can get some help with this lil issue and fill up and get her on the road for a lil street creep[:x)][88]

On my rebuild thread alot of people said my car should idle at and below 1000revs with the RL32 and a TPS setup. But as was explained to me, the TPS is not the problem it's the duration of the cam that is so much that the car makes almost no vacuum at 1000 revs. So the car is not sucking in any air and it floods and stalls. But I may be completely wrong. I do know the cam rocks the car around something shocking at 1200 revs.

book me a flight and i'll help with the beer.

just have a go at it, read the ms site there is lots of info out there.

the relay box is easier then you think putting the wiring together.
fp = fuel pump, put wire there easy. at first looks like sheet. get some plugs, different coloured wires, draw it all down, once you have the plugs make the other end and connect to the realay board using the drawing you made to follow wires. thats your wiring harness done,

i have a ms file that will get you running and im sure andrew would donate his too.

would take you a few hours to make the wiring harness, assuming you buy all the right plugs and stuff unlike what i did.

plus if it breaks down you can fix it as you made it

brand new motor, gotta do 500kms on running in oil then take it in, drop the oil and a few hours on the dyno i will have a figure.

calling them today, i figured it is best for them to fix it.

Makes sense. Goodluck with it and hope they can sort your issue quickly and cheaply.

issue found, was a fuel issue, a relay had been faulty. had that fixed on the spot and saw it running again. buuut left it in there to have them fix a few things that werent completely finished. and also to have my starter motor voltage etc looked into, real slow crank sometimes.

Rhys you poor unpleasant individual! I just read the last page and that alone was enough to make me cry!

Keep your chin up dude, eventually the bugs will be eliminated one at a time, and one day.......one day you will be flying through some Clarendon back road grinning like a fool....and you will have forgotten the dark days you have described here in this thread.

I once had a beach of a Capri that behaved in a same manner, so I wrote out a list of the problems as I sorted them. Eventually after two pages of writing I had the thing running well enough to sell it (it was used by the new owner in a bank robbery...but that's another story).

Write a list of 'solved' problems.. and I guarantee you'll feel better about how the car is progressing. Good luck with it, and I look forward to hearing tales of months and months of reliable running once it's all sorted.

ok got my wheels aligned the other day, got the car back and it was pulling hard to the left all the time, so went back, and was told that i am in need of some new srut tops, they did what they could with out replacing the struts, fixed it up then i did a hardish u turn while trying to get me K's up and it then started pulling hard right :(

so this is basically me needing new strut tops? can someone school me on them? never looked into them...

where can i get standards, get mine rebuilt (if possible), how much more are adjustable tops? is it worth it etc. id like to get this issue done with this week if possible

cheers

Who told you this Rhys?

I can't see how your strut tops would cause such a problem, standard Escort strut tops are extremely basic. It never did it before did it?

What exactly is wrong with them? Is the rubber completely perished?

I'd just replace them (if they are stuffed) with some decent 2nd handies if you dont want to spent $400+ ish on aftermarket adjustable ones.
