cool a turbo pinto. Do you have a hp figure and at what psi? Or even a 1/4 mile time?

no not yet i've really only had the turbo setup on the road for a bit over a week, it's not completley finished (well it never will be) but i can tell you i've had the boost at over 20psi and it's pretty crazy especially on poo pooty tyres, i actually have taken the boost controller out as it will more than likley end up impounded or blowing the motor up

Gotta appreciate honesty! [88]

I totally regret selling my old Escort before I got the chance to use my turbo and EFI gear. I bet it's sh!tloads of fun.

took it for another strap today , as a mate came around to look at it, but you just don't want to show off the hard work with 9psi, so yes i put the boost tee back on and up'd it, smelling to tyres in 4th gear is fun!!!, wind it back down for work duties tommorrow!!!

open 3.9, funny i'm yet to break an escort centre as of now, i never give it beans off the line though, and i've never had much grip with poo pooty tyres, i've got a 3.7 locked diff on the bench

Love this car, clean and simple with a now fairly rare turbo pinto.

Can't wait to get some 15x7 Challengers on my Mk2.

Hi Joey,

Did you fit the turbo setup yourself?

Was it a kit?

joeyjonsey
thanks for the comments

peter m - 100% home grown, only issue is gettin hot has blistered the bonnet and melted one brake resoviour, it's not running any fans so i only drive at times i'm not going to be stuck at lights but i will get back into it soon, the heat wrap on the exhaust has helped but i still need a guard on the brake resoviour as its started discolouring but its fun to drive still needs the rest of the exhaust done as i made it 2.5inch from the turbo then joined back to my poo pooty 2 1/4 inch so more power to be made

What are the internal specs of the pinto?

Thanks, Shaun

im a big fan, im building one as well, but blowing into a 390 holley, id love to see pics of the manifold, ect. what compression u running and how did u achieve it?

what clutch u using? and did u have any issues?

cheers love the red 2 door sleeper

i wouldn't fancy blowing into a carb as you'll need some sort of control over the igntion so you'd might as well go efi ?? anyway good luck, i have lunched 1 apparently heavy duty excedy clutch that bad that i had no drive at all, it is something that i should of had done properly at race clutch i didn't have the $$ at the time so i compromised but worked out good using an original sachs rs2000 pressure plate (standard on uk rs's i think) with a normal pbr clutch plate, has beed holding up pretty good i suppose, clutch feels soft as anything and has more clamp then my previous one,

the engine started off n/a with a decked block etc 60 thou over.. head was shaved so i swapped it for a standard thickness head that was converted to unleaded just up rated the valve springs no port work at all and standard cam , then used a 2mm decompression plate with an acl mono torque gasket from memory compression is in the low 8's, i haven't had any issues there yet and it's set on around 18psi all the time ( it's been running since march this year ) on my own tune never been dyno'd touch wood , timing should be on the safe side though

Thanks for that, good to know the internals will hold up with just the decomp plate.

One more question, which engine management system are you running?

Thanks, Shaun.

joeyjonsey
yes it's suprising how they have held up so far, it's not ideal but it was my first attempt and the engine will be refined later.. i do have a collection of bits

management is megasquirt 2 v3 i think (sorry the model #'s escape me atm) with a diy wbo2 wideband o2

any idea on power output mate?n did you build the turbo manifold yourself or get it made?
2010/09/24 19:02:02
joeyjonsey
no idea on power output, i made the manifold, just got steam pipe bends, 3 t peices and 2 90 degree bends just a simple log manifold

i have emailed that guy from frofix racing several times anyone ever dealt with them or purchased a motor? sounds like he can put together a pretty gd deal...

Scandinavians are always nice to deal with.
Post it up on RS motorsport. Those guys are loaded, it'll get snapped up in a flash [:p]

do you think you could get away with leaving the brake booster in place?or did you have to move it?
2010/06/10 22:12:00
joeyjonsey
yea you can leave it, maybe not with the manifold on my engine, but i've got another that fit a t3 with the booster in place, the only reason mine is gone is it poo poo it self and it was cheaper to go a recon datsun on on the firewall allowed some extra room too

This car is so good. I wish mine could be like this one day. Great car! This is one of my motivators.

ah very nice def would be a tight fit i think i will leave it to start with and move it down the track when the more boost bug bits and i want a bigger turbo he he,any update on power figure?
2010/07/10 21:45:26
joeyjonsey
no update on hp, clutch is gone again, but i'm thinking of keeping her locked up for a while and playing with another turbo pinto i've nearly got enough bits for

mk1escort73
another clutch?that crazy also another turbo pinto how many of these things do you have?
2010/08/10 20:37:38
joeyjonsey
only 1 atm, but it's something i've always wanted to try the dirt cheapest way to turbo a pinto, plus gives me some practise with getting stuff laser cut

hey Joe, if you want to off load it and need money to fund the other project let me know

is this other turbo pinto efi?or you opting for the draw through blow through carby setup?keep us updated as to how it turns out either way...
2010/09/10 14:20:12
joeyjonsey
ty, haha well you never know.. not atm though

yea the other is going to be efi, have ordered another megasquirt to solder up, going to be alot simpler, probably a bigger turbo with ea falcon cpi throttle body, and possible water injection, to fit with booster in the bay
2010/09/10 18:29:15
mk1escort73
maybe you could start a buisness building turbo pinto's i would be an interested customer too...look forward to the progress keep us updated

haha my workmanships not quite up to that standard!!

hows the turbo pintos coming on? you got powere figures yet??
2010/08/12 22:07:45
joeyjonsey
nah i never intended to put it on the dyno, and the 2nd one has the ea falcon cpi adapted to the pinto manifold , a garrett t3 turbo on a manifold and the engine management, i only work on it in my spare time which is nearly none.. so still a while to go
2010/09/12 06:37:22

What did you do for a accelerator cable. I am after a cable for mine. Wont the electronic dizzy stand up to turbo charging?
2010/10/12 20:11:39
joeyjonsey
used a ford laser carby throttle cable, the dizzy should be fine, but when you compare the cost you could have the coil packs hooked up cheaper than what the dissys were going for thats all, probably a stronger spark as well

2010/11/12 12:43:00
joeyjonsey
i'm assuming were talking about the efi dizzy ? not the normal mechanical advance type electronic dissy ??
2010/11/12 12:49:46
laurie
Yeah I scored an EFI dizzy with the injection unit
