The cover would definately be a great thing for long trip.. would also save hours of cleaning bugs off the front of the car !
You should come up to QLD, I wouldn't mind an escort friendly officer around [:o)]

I don't like them ever and i've seen what they do to the paint work no mater how good the quality of the car bra is.

Bring out the gimp!
That should do a good job of preventing stone chips on those long journeys

Another car bra hater here. And to think they've even made them to "suit" your car's color, and some even have stripes to make the car if it has them. Didn't know they actually hurt the paint, but that's another reason against. I don't mind those clear plastic covers, even tho they only protect the bonnet, and I doubt they come in Escort shapes. I keep a bottle of touch-up in my breakdown kit anyway, so I'm not real fussed about chips.

Thanks for the comments guys. It comes off at the end of the trip to reveal the true looks. When you live in the centre of NSW this comes in handy when driving any where out there.[;^)]

Laurie,
Any other of your colleagues involved in classic cars?
Wish there were a few more down here..., in particular classic fords
Not too sure on the car bra, but anything is preferable to damaged paint.
Like you car, is there a thread on it somewhere?
Shaun

Hi Shaun ,my colleagues are more into motor bikes. Some follow the V8 Supercars and follow Holden[:u].There is a thread in here somewhere of my MK1 with square headlights, but I have'nt updated since I changed the headlights to round and fitted a modified Capri consul to the interior. Will be fitting a set of roller top mounts next week(thanks Smcka), and will update thread.[8)]

good 1 Laurie! I've had my carbra for my RS2000 now for nearly 18 years! It's been in the rain, dust and the sunshine, No problems with the paint afterwards either. Just look after it. I have to now get some new velcro strip sewn in, not bad after all this time.[:x)]

I was expecting a plastic and steel thing, not something with a dead goofy grin on it.

How is is with driving in the heat?? doesn't run any hotter??
Was thinking of getting one for my "other" car

Stuart
Whoppa, it doesnt run any hotter with the RS. I would have had it on the RS for the Concourse, but you saw it needed new velcro tabs. Not bad after all this time.

Hi Laurie,
Parkes boy eh?
My family are from Parkes, some live just a stones throw from the Police station. Others are in Trundle and Condo. I still spend as much time in Parkes and Trundle as possible. Small world!

Hello Peter M. Parkes has been very good for me. I have a 16 month tenure left before I transfer back to Sydney. Would like to catch up next time you are in town. Only too happy to have a beer with a fellow forum member. You know where to find me.[:x)]

Hello Laurie,
Next time I am going to visit the relo's I will make sure the mighty VL (ex chaser) will be cruising on the usual 160 (km/h). You might just find me! [:u]

Hello Laurie,
Yes, Parkes is a great place with great people. I have many fond memories there from day dot with a large family and many huge family Christmas parties in High St. City people really do miss out on the lifestyle and the country education. The only problem is the lack of work, especially in professions.
If you have been brought up in the city I am sure you will have learn't a lot about the country ways. Often the city cops when posted to the country are in shock and have a significant learning curve to start with. But all is usually good.

hey Laurie......
Im all for the bra. I have had concerns about it marking the piant from rubbing etc but if you keep an eye on it and if it is causing any damage or not you will be sweet.
I live in the Adelaide Hills. On a warm night the amount of bugs out on the road is crazy. They get everywhere and are hard little buggers to clean.
if i had a car bra i might drive my corty alittle bit more at night during the summer months.

The 'Bra' is lined with felt.(Soft as a baby bum)And is fitted snuggly and doesn't move once fitted correctly.Wind deflecters on top of bonnet help hold it in place. Metal tabs that fold around the guards are also lined in felt. Company is located in Sydney. You can see their product on
www.carbras.com.au.They
have not received any complaints about their product scratching paintwork.NMRA advertises Robco in the Open Road mag

Hello Laurie,
"Shaun, I could not locate the old thread of my Escort pre round headlight,..."
I don't want to sound too smart, but I found the thread at:
http://classic-ford.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7318&whichpage=2&SearchTerms=e
The car bra looks good and is really a functional necessity for country road driving if wanting to preserve valuable cars's from stone chips and pesky bugs and grasshoppers etc.
Another improvment of the car bra concept would be an inflatable car bra to help protect from roos and emus when driving on country roads!

Very nice Laurie, looks fantastic.
Is the centre console a Twin Cam one?
Cam
2009/05/01 16:55:06
laurie
Cam,
The console came out of a MK 1 Capri. I shortened it and had it covered in vinyl. The plastic wood cutouts were ditched in favor of a couple of stainless steel inlays to match the dial surrounds. A twin cam console would not fit because of the 5 speed and it would be sacriligous to cut one to fit.

I do like the ride height of your car. Seems to sit very well.
Great job looks excellent.

Very tidy mk1 you have there Laurie. I now recognise this car from a few years back when it had the rectangle headlights. I found a few pics on my computer that I had saved of it at a show when I was back in NZ.
Out of interest, what offset are the mags ? Are they a factory order or a custom set up ?
Thanks
Aaron

Aaron,
There was no skill or knowledge involved when it came to ordering the wheels. I just walked into the dealer and asked for Simmons OM style rims 15 x 7 in Twin Cam Escort offset. I do not even know what that is.[:u]

Thanks
I try to keep the mods to a minimum for 3 reasons,
1/ Money
2/ Wife(Who holds purse strings for reason 1)
3/ Try to keep a good looking car resemble what it looked like when it was conceived. Not to many mods that make it look too futuristic.
