Josh's MK2 - last pictures before it goes PG. 4

Today was the day I finally got the car all sorted and it's back on the road for now. I'm pretty sure most of you would've seen the specs in other threads so I'll just show the photo's on the finished product.

That's looking tops mate. Great stance, clean engine bay and twin webers... what more could a man want.

Thanks guys. Ty, I'll have to swing by next weekend if I can and show you. Swap you the 500 for it? [:x)]

The rocker cover is pretty good, there was just a little issue with the O-ring on the filler cap being below the bottom of the tube so oil sprayed out, so I just spaced it up and it's fine now. It makes the motor look chunkier which is good.

looks good mate. i bet its fun to be driving around in again.

i reckon you should spray the trumpets the same colour as the car they look really maroon next to that bright read.

The big chain links on the shed have me stumped.
Do you have the cruise boat tied to the shed already?

The filters will look trick when you get them on.

Do the twins sound different with the ram tubes on?

that really does look quiet noice

i like that look, smooth and clean, with a custom touch.

Hahaha the chain is on the end of the boat trailer (not my house or boat unfortunately, belongs to that mate of mine you met the other weekend).

The ram tubes make way more difference than I expected, both sound and throttle. The filters do look pretty cool, I'll get a photo of the motor again once I do a quick tidy up....had a slight oil and coolant "incident"

I got lined up by a turbo R32 tonight and taught him a thing or two, erm, at Willowbank, of course.

As of today I am free of the world of peg leggers... on Sunday I shattered a pinion into over 20 pieces, quite an effort I thought. So this arvo I bought a locker off maxrs and threw it in tonight, just got back from testing it, it's good fun and I haven't found myself facing the wrong direction... yet!

This will be the last update with the car for a while, I leave on Saturday to go and play on a cruise ship for 3 months, so when I come back in March there should be a few little updates and I'll get it dyno tuned and what-not.

Josh.

Very clean car there mate. The engine bay is sweet. Its nice to see another bloke with the same passion for clean bay

Youl have fun with a locker..... i have a full spool in mine. In my opinion they are more predictable than a LSD. You always have both wheels turning.

Thanks mate, I try my best!

I saw your car in one of the Ford magazines, verrrry nice, and as for the full spool...hell yeah!

Plan your corners, and don't bend it before your tip, You will be dirty on yourself if you do.
I will keep an eye out for MK1 axles.

For those who don't know, I've been in the Caribbean playing in a band on a cruise ship since December and will be here until March 15th or so....Sooo I told my brother he could take the car out once a week if he really wanted to and I find out the other day that the clutch is rooted, so I guess he might have been a little hard on the Escort, but that's what it's made for I 'spose. I have to laugh though, it seems you can't escape unreliable cars even by leaving the country!! hahaha.
2009/07/02 08:11:30
Phil
Its probably better to have a stuffed clutch...at least you know it wont end up with any panel damage before you get home[;^)]
2009/07/02 09:11:32
Juiceman
Yeah! At least I can make a positive out of it hahaha. Ahh it's alright, at least I don't have to deal with it breaking on me when I get home now!
2009/09/02 07:53:43
Juiceman
And it begins all over again (again). This is a far as I got today...it's too freaking hot.

As I said in a previous post, my brother told me the clutch sh!t itself, but now that I'm home and can hear it for myself, and from talking to some mates I now think the flywheel has come a little bit loose. So seeing as I don't have access to a hoist the easiest option is to pull the motor again (I've done it enough times with this silly car to be able to do it blindfolded I think!)

While the motor is out I'm treating myself to a new adjustable pedal box from Smcka, and then I might finally get around to putting in the Mallory Hyfire 6 I bought about 2 years ago...mmm launch control.

Might also put the dual throttle cable in if I can find it!

If a vicious vibration occurs when you use the clutch.
Make sure the Gearbox bell housing isn't cracked.

Have you got the engine out yet josh?
2009/07/04 20:19:21
Juiceman
Nah not just yet, it's ready to be plucked out, just got to get around to it. At least I can do it at home this time around, won't take eleventy zillion years this time [:x)]

On another note I ordered the pedal box with braided hoses from Smckaperformance today. Can't wait to have some brake pedal feel again.

is jezza making these rocker covers on request by any chance?

Hey mate I'm not sure about that, PM him and ask. I have to fix a few things with it though. The O-ring at the bottom of the filler cap doesn't line up properly so oil leaks out of there, so I think I'm going to weld a baffle in, that should hopefully stop that...and it doesn't have the grooves down the side for the tabs in the gasket to wedge in to which makes it a right pain to put like the gasket up. Then I might grind the weld around the filler tube down if I can be bothered haha.

Rightio...so I was going to yank the motor out today, but got side-tracked with other things like motor bikes and stuff. I accquired a 4 stroke pit bike with a 138cc "race" motor in it (freaking flies!) and on top of that there are now 2 other bikes in the house aswell...a Honda CRF250 and CR125, and at the moment there's nowhere for them to go except the garage.

Here's what the garage looks like at the moment. Gotta make some room for the motor before I go pulling it out hahaha. Stupid fun hobbies. [88]

And I guess seeing as this is the Showroom section, here's my little basher...it's way more fun than I expected for a smaller bike!

2009/10/04 20:49:54

Pulled the motor today. Problem found...3 of 6 flywheel bolts had snapped in half. I guess that's what was making the clunking noise!

I would be questioning the amount of rev's the Pinto had before it broke.
Good luck with that one Juiceman.

Looks like your going out in sympathy.

Is the brother helping you fix it? that might be his last drive if he hasn't helped out
Just remind him of the bullship crapola your going through now when he wants the keys next time.
2009/04/13 17:45:20

Hahaha yeah he's helping me. He's letting me use his XR6 turrrbo ute to cart the motor over to the reconditioners tomorrow to have the snapped bolts pulled out and he helped me yank the motor yesterday and will help me put it back in. But still, he's not getting the keys anytime soon [88]
2009/04/13 18:52:22

Hey Josh... the motor must go ok to do that

Stop messing around with bikes.. they will never be as much fun as the escort!! [:x)]

Haha yeah I'm already realising that, the bike broke yesterday on its first time out. It may or may not have something to do with the fact that I got stuck in some water.....hahaha.

Anyways, this arrived today from SMCKA, and I'd just like to say that Stephen was an absolute pleasure to deal with, and the product looks like great quality, I highly recommend his company.

there are a few mobile dudes that easyout bolts and stuff man should jus ring 1 up com round n have them all out in 20mins

Yeah I decided to give it a crack myself, I figured the chances of me somehow screwing it up were pretty slim, and they came out no worries. Saved myself a very few pennies, sweet deal.

Finally got around to getting some new flywheel bolts this arvo, ARP ones...but I'm not sure if it'll be going back together just yet, I have something big in mind for the car and I haven't made up my mind whether I'm going to drive it as is for a little while or wait until I've gather all my secret bits and pieces for it. Chances are I'll drive it as is because I'm pretty sick of driving the NX that's for sure.
2009/05/13 19:32:10

efi and turbo it... do it i dare you.
or u could scrap the 2l and put an sr20 in it like me haha
2009/05/17 10:08:04
Juiceman
Well, stuff it, I can't be bothered trying to keep secrets haha...you guessed it Matt, efi and turbo is the plan. GT28RS to start with (will probably change the rear housing to maybe the same as the HKS GTRS once I get used to it), and 50mm side draught EFI hardware throttle bodies, like theeeese.

For management I'm grabbing a Microtech LT8S.

Oh and I'll need a decomp plate, I don't really like them, but I have to do it haha.

Anyways, watch this space I 'spose.
2009/05/17 17:43:43
joeyjonsey
i don't think you'll need the throttle bodies if your using forced induction.. money would be better spend else where, have a manifold made up with a single throttle body or use the sierra one
2009/05/17 19:05:13
Juiceman
Very good point...even the XF throttle body would be enough come to think of it.
2009/05/17 19:13:19
Juiceman
Better yet, a mate has a brand new 75mm Holley t/b that he doesn't need so I might even do that, I just need to start saving pennies for everything else now...I can't wait to go HSV hunting.
2009/05/17 20:25:08
joeyjonsey
another thing you could look into if you wanted your throttle bodies is run a fuel rail setup on your manifold and take out the chokes and aux venturii's in your weber/dellortos and you would have a nice set of 40mm throttle bodies get the injector bosses from efi hardware and try and track down a factory fuel rail that lines up, i picked up a vl commodore fuel rail and pump for 30 bucks at the swap meet today, i've got access to a tig welder at work so will come up with something when i get around to it
2009/05/17 20:33:38
Juiceman
Not much progress...picked up a 75mm Holley t/b that's going to sit opposite a GT28RS very nicely one day.

Also, the standard steering rack needed some TLC that I'm not prepared to give to it, so I ordered a 2.4 turn quick rack for it.

So I'm in a bit of a situation...I don't know whether to get the car resprayed or get the turbo and EFI gear happening. I had a motorbike fall onto another bike, then on to the car tonight and it's ripped a sh!tload of paint off. The whole car needs a spray anyway, and now that there's some missing paint it seems like a good excuse, but then again it's not the end of the world because the primer is still covering the bare metal.

At the moment I've got the money for one or the other...

What would McGuyver do?
2009/06/24 19:27:51
Paul Dunstan
From a practical perspective it might be an idea to do the EFI and make any modifications to the engine bay area permanent and then respray the lot.
2009/06/24 22:17:44
Mk2_2dr_2L
Paint or power, tough choice.. both can easily blow out of proportion cost wise !

If you can find a standard bore pinto block I will have a set of reasonably priced standard Cossie pistons for sale in the near future [;^)]
2009/06/24 22:29:01
tybrown
Pressure Pack Josh!!!

turbo all the way [:x)]
2009/06/25 19:04:41
Juiceman
Hahaha yeah well I'm actually kind of leaning towards the paint which is odd for me. Because I really want the blackout between the tail lights, and I really want a solid matte black RS stripe to break up all the red, but I don't want it to continue past the rear wheel.

I really want the turbo gear too, but I think with a decent tune and get the cam timing right this time it should put a big enough smile on my face until I feel the need to break traction in 3rd...that's when I might go for the turbsssss.

Also that alloy rocker cover is total rubbish as I discovered when I pulled it off. There's gauge marks on the inside from parts rubbing against it, not too happy but there's not much I can do about it, so it's back to a stock one for a while, no big deal, doesn't bother me at all actually! The stock one might actually hold some oil too which would be super.
2009/06/25 23:54:59
Juiceman
Alright so even though I just said the other day about possibly painting it first, a mate spotted a cast Garrett T04 manifold for a pinto on ebay so I got that, it needs to be repaired but it was super cheap and it's externally gated, so I digging a screamer pipe. So I dunno I keep changing my mind, I might just see what happens!
2009/06/28 22:44:22
Juiceman
Doesn't look like much I know, but I'll get it cleaned up and whack a T04B on it one day (was going to use a GT28RS, but then decided it's too girly and small). I'll get the car painted one day too, maybe even a colour change. If I don't burn the thing to the ground before then. We'll see.

2009/04/07 17:37:25
maxrs
Do the modifying now and leave the fancy stuff later when it's off the road.
You will always hurt the paint with a turbo, they increased temperatures under the hood and cause the paint to crack.
You might need the bonnet back if you put in a S4 spazda (top mount)inter cooler?
Good luck burning it to the ground.[:x)]

Your burnout in the Skyrice is in my favorites.
For a riceburner it looked like fun[88]
2009/04/07 18:10:54
Juiceman
Yeah I've decided to just keep saving and do paint and the turbo at the same time, I might need to get some venting happening on top of the bonnet. Thanks for the offer Mark, I'm going to use a front mount but I will think about it, seeing as it already has a hole in it, rather than cutting up a good solid bonnet, I know how difficult a good RS bonnet is to find. I'll let you know!

Yeah I still get a good giggle out of the skyrine skid, that was a fun night. It's a hilarious car. At least it doesn't have a body kit on it though!
