MK 2 RS2000 DURATEC 2.3 (Registered)

Progress has been slow over the last month but I promise I will get something together in the next couple of weeks. I had a few issues with the alternator but that has been sorted now.

My tuner has reported that it has 113kw/151.54bhp at the rear wheels and he is very impressed with the power this engine puts out in NA form.

He just thinks the World Cup Crossmember puts to much vibration through the chassis. We will see how it goes when I get it registered.

There are ways of reducing the vibration by changing the rubber material in the World Cup Crossmember to something softer.

Looking good. Maybe you could try rubber mounts instead of the polyurethane...

I got some more news from my tuner today which I will share with you. Some good and some bad.

The Good
The VCT is not working yet so more horsepower to come. Most likely will see 170bhp at the wheels.

The Bad
Because the VCT is not working and I could not control my alternator from the PMW outputs I may have killed all PMW outputs in the ECU when I connected the Alternator up without control and spiked my electricals on it first start.

So I am going to get the ECU checked out by Haltech next week. Then check my VCT wiring.

No need to control the Alternator now, it has been modified with and internal regulator.

There are a few sump leaks to fix aswell, which is an engine out job but I will fix that after I get her registered. With the engine out I can also sort the engine rubber mounts.

man that looks soo clean, and like a real sleeper

you should steal the ".3" from a 1.3 badge and mate it to the 2.0 badge

Thanks guys

I am going to fix a few issue before registering as there is no rush for me to get it on the road.

I have found out that I need some peugeot handbrake return springs. Right handside was not releasing without the spring.

I will remove the cross member and press out the solid rubbers. Spoke to Burtons last night and a few of their customers have reported bad vibration with a world cup cross members for street so they suggest replacing mounts with Poly 14 Capri M1/Escort Mk1 Leaf Spring Rubbers. The Burtons clients who have done this have reported that it reduced vibration quite well.

Pulling the haltech loom out to run a couple of additional switched 12volt wires to run the VCT and Thermo Fan. I have only just learen't that the PWM ouputs switch to ground.

Need to bleed the front and rear brakes.

Then I will take if for a drive down my street in two weeks and see how those changes work.

Regards

Here are the pictures. Did you get the handbrake return springs? I am finding them hard to find.

That is one tidy conversion. I love it.

Top points no matter what the result.

It would be great to see this in action. [;^)]

Thanks. To reduced vibration. I took the crossmember out today I have a couple of days off.
I am puting poly on the inlet side and drilling a couple of holes in the mount on the exhaust side. Danny M mentioned that the poly doesn't like the heat so I have left it and just drilled it.

Is that Geoff's last pug caliper kit I wonder. I have one of his earlier kits also.. but minus the mounting plates. I begged him for his last pair, but it was part of a whole set, that he didn't want to break. Which was fair enough.

Really keen to hear how you find the rear disk setup.

Bill,
I use the standard escort engine mounts, but have added a engine damper strut to stop it rotating so much. It was moving 36mm at the air filter. The original mounts are great for keeping vibration to a minimum.

Thanks, but the Duratec 2.3 has an added issue, its depth. It is 12mm longer in the block than the Duratec 2.0 and the Cosworth 2.0. So you need to lower the rack position.

Two ways to do this:
1. Get your standard cross member changed. Finding someone to do this properly is not easy and doing it is easier said than done. Once the cross member is modified burtons have the 2.0 oval rubber mounts to duratec but no good for big horsepower they will be destroyed,or put the stabliser in which you have done.
2. Get a world cup crossmember with lowered rack. Then vibration is an issue so you need to modify the mounts.

So I modified the Escort/Capri MK1 Leafspring bush.

Then drilled the other mount to releave some rubber from it.

Hi bhempstead,
Was wondering if you could tell me who did your Wilwood Brake conversion. Also what size front discs your running.

Cheers!

I did it. Just bolted them on.

I have capri legs with alloy hubs. You can buy the willwoods off the shelf either with the correct bolt pattern intergral to the caliper or as a bracket. Mine have the bracket. The bolt pattern on the Capri legs are the same as Mk2 Escy 2lt Legs. These calipers are amazingly light. Pickup a full can of fly spray simular weight.

Discs are Capri standard but Grooved, Drilled and Slotted.

It would be nice to source all the bits for the front legs from one shop but I had to source the bits from about five shops and then just bolted it all together.

Cool thanks. BTW who did you buy the calipers from.

Sorry guys will have to remove the worldcup crossmember and install the standard one first then we will get some more video footage. Eurospeed has a taller Type 9 now so I will have to order one of those and change the gearbox aswell.
Type 9 stnd

Type 9 Modified Road
2.71 1.81 1.26 1.00 .825

Hi Bill, how effective were your WCXM bush mods for reducing vibration? I need to do someting similar to mine when I put it back together

Phil

I changed the Mk1 Escort/Capri leaf spring rubbers to nolathane as shown. And it still gave me a big headache.

So before going to the stand cross member i decided to change the gearbox cross member back to standard and do some testing for Eurospeed, just made up some 24 x 24 square tubes and ovalled the holes.

The results was 3/4 of the vibration was removed.. So the world cup cross member with nolathane rubbers is exceptable for everyday use.

I will change back to the standard cross member and test this out. I have a sprigett bearing noise [8~2] so engine has to come out. While the engine is out I will change the gearbox for a taller first 2.71:1 and this should transform it.
