I fitted a new velo seat I pick up from ebay today. I am happy with the result and alot better than my old one. only just fitted though, with the shoulder 'wing' just touching the top of the door card. Was surprised with the weight of the velo seat mounts, will get some alloy ones next time around.

had my first blat at baskerville since I had the the head and the twin 45's last week.I'm doing laps around 2.5 sec faster than before in the low 1.10's. See below a matchup with a 350z, twas a bit of fun;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeFgwoxRhEA

but predictably, the ol' standard clutch gave up after 4 runs, so now its in the shop getting a brass button one, and while its there, lightening the flyweel and putting in some better bolts as well.

oh and with the extra speed, the poor old std brakes are getting much more of a workout now, having some scary pedal to the floor type action after 2.5 laps.....[:0]

had another run @ baskerville. This time with a nice a quiet 3.77 diff as opposed to my old 3.54 howler. Much better response out of the corners, but hitting my 6k rev limit halfway down the straight. twas a bit of fun in the damp in the morning;

Goods vis Michael. Its always good to watch other having fun out on track.

Did you end up changing the wheels? Or did you stick with Hotwires?
Are you runnning an open centre diff?

cheers, I ended up sticking with the hotwires, and push that $$ torwards getting a full cage installed - Keen to improve safety. I'm still running an open diff atm - one day I'll be able to afford a lsd.

Hotwires look great anyway.
As far as diff goes, try a welded centre for track - its cheap and it works. I was amazed the time I picked up going from open wheeler which was picking up the inside wheel everywhere to a locker. Im now running an LSD and to be honest don't favour it too much over just a welded diff (on track). The benefit of an LSD for me in not having to swap between welded and open when using the car on the road.

cheers Rhys, thanks for the heads-up. I'm not keen on swapping over centers, and the additional load a welded center adds to the drive line. I'm learning how to drive it without lifting a inside wheel, and happy with the lap times I do with it atm. - I'm coming second in class in the hillclimb series, behind a mad n/a cosworth mk2.

thanks sterling, no damage, I kept it on the black stuff (which could not be said for a now not so nice evo 6 and a turbo'd corolla, both with front end damage.)

Ran at a slightly modified Baskerville hillclimb event on the weekend co organised with a Porsche car club, so it was good to see some expensive machinery put though their paces. Came 1st in class (under 2ltr) by a poofteenth and 13th overall (out of 48) - so very happy with the result.

Nice work. You have the same colour interior as me :) If you ever strip out the interior to save weight, i'll buy it off you.

did a little work over the chrissy break;

sealed the boot from the cabin, as our scrutineer was hassling me to seal it up because of the fuel pump is in the boot - and fair enough. Not entirely happy with it, but it was a good learning experience;

Installed some kmac 'race' strut tops, have a max of -1.5 camber now and some positive caster. has more direct steering feel now.

Bought a deep dish omp corsica replica (i recon) steering wheel off ebay (came from thailand). the wheel is now much closer to me and now I can heel & toe without my knees hitting the wheel. I like the look, and the quality is ok if you can look past the fact that the yellow straight ahead stripe is a little off centre.

the next job is to install a 6 point bolt-in rollcage that is coming from bond rollbars. ordered it with side intrusion and harness bar. I went with bond as I was put off by some local cowboy operations down here, and the custom cages (UK) one I wanted was far to expensive to post.

I measured the max space avail and ordered the filters from my local bursons store

Got any pics of the rear bars and mounting positions Michael?

Does it just bolt through floor with re-inforcement plates on the underbody? Was it relatively easy to install?

Cheers,
Rhys

hi Rhys, I fixed my post as it was not showing the first pic. I can take some others with more detail if you want.

yup, it bolts through the floor with 3 bolt plates.

It was pretty straight forward except for the drivers side front leg plate. My esky has the factory reinforcement? plate, which the bond supplied one did not fit. I ended up putting in some crush tubes for two of the holes and had a piece of tube welded in for the outermost bolt. probably not cams legal, but I'll cross that bridge later. The other tricky part was cutting the rear bars to the correct length.

If I had to do it again, I would place the rear legs higher on the wheel arch to increase the angles of the cage and harness bar. Also, As I am quite lanky, I had to place the main hoop a fair way rearwards, this meant that the front legs are not as close to the front of the doors as I would of liked

Hi Michael

Was it the roll cage guys i advised you to go to?? DOn't want to name them here in case!! Just out of interested, what sort of dollars did you pay for that cage?? Also, how much was freight??

What meeting are you going to be competing in next?? PLanning to have some changes done on mine for historic baskerville. Will be great to see another escort out there!!

Cheers

Hiya fpv, nope I did not end up contacting the guys you recommended.

The cage to my door was approx $1600 inc freight (from NSW I think).

I'm planning to do the CMI regularity next in mid jul. I'd love to do the historic, or even the historic regularitys in the tas super series, but sadly my esky is not eligible (to young - 78 model).

Can't say I have tried them yet myself, but all the Nb and Nc guys use the Toyos. I have oredered a set to go on the Cortina, along with a set of Dunlop d93j's for the wet.

Also, the sons' project mk2 is the same peppermint green metalic as yours, just about to get it's new coat of paint.

cheers Ted

compilation from last round of the tas super series of 2010. Close running with a mk2 escort, Lauclans 3 wheeling mk1, mad sounding bda mk1, mini's & cortinas, oh and a ambitious corner entry speed....

Installed 12gal fuel cell today. In hindsight, would of preferred a plastic one, as the aluminium ones are a bit trickier to mount.

Finally could afford some new toyos to put on the challengers.
Took 2 sec off my previous best at symmons plains time last weekend, due to higher max top speed, new rubber and better front suspension setup. Had a good result in the historic regularity - 2nd, Also now second in the championship, due to some bad luck by Adrian snapping a gear stick.

had some fun at baskerville last weekend;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbxm8Rl0Gl0
Up to speed with the new front end setup (-3deg camber, +2.5 castor) Added a heavier duty rear sway bar to remove some understeer - done the job, but now I have to definitely get that LSD ordered.
