Cool!

Looks alot like mine, I think that must have been a very popular colour. 1300???

Its only a "sleeper" if its capable of "waking up" otherwise its just "asleep" all the time.
HYPO4D what are your plans for it?

It was a 1300XL, now its a 1600 with auto box.
sleeper.... no, not yet
It wont wake up, no matter how many times I put my right boot into it

Plans are to use it as a daily driver and fix it up as I go, maybe an engine transplant later on down the track but not sure what way to go at the moment, pinto with 45's / zetec efi / YB cossie / 13B PP
Im not sure of modification regulations in victoria

Forgot to mention those wheels now look far better than the gold mags that used to be on it.[^]

If you put a 13B PP in it that should not only wake up the little ESKY,but your neighbour's aswell.hehehehe

Nice, just like mine, how much better does it go with the 1600??

Familiarnice to see the 12' wheels on it. The Gold 15' wheels were the first Tempest type mag ordered from Performance.

Try starting it, with one pump on the gas before you key start, then wait before you try giving it more gas.
And you may have dramas with the 2L radiator not allowing the car to warming up in the cold. I bet it won't overheat in traffic.
If you PM me your address i can send you down some goodies for ya.
Good luck with it.
Mark

Looks can be deceiving, I thought it looked pretty sweet too, but never judge a book by it's cover !

It doesn't overheat in traffic cos it doesn't even go at the moment. Its not starting at all, just getting a click at the solenoid ?
First the battery, then the alternator, then the starter motor, and now the solenoid..........
I fix one thing and then something else breaks down, what next ?
Can you give me any clues ???
It should be painted yellow ... cos its a lemon

geez, it was a sweet ride when i had it.

I was wondering why i didn't get any positive feedback.

Neat looking ride mate! Looks very period. I even love the bump strip down the side. Sounds like you're experiencing the joys of owning an old car. Don't give up, you will get on top of it & then you will be able to start enjoying it. Remember it could be worse, you could be working on old cars all day long!

I have ironed out a few more of the gremlins and have been enjoying driving to work and back in it this week.
Still a few more issues to go in regards to getting a roadworthy but money seems to be the restriction at the moment......as it always is. The joys of owning an older car.
Changed my mined on the colour yellow too,
I think it will look much better All Black.

im one of the biggest fans of a black car but would hate to see it on something like this, the brown suits it, i wouldn't go changing a sweet looking ride like that.
if you want to defile another car and spray it black im happy to take this one off your hands [88]

im serious about that offer
2008/09/27 19:05:49
HYPO4D
What do you mean ? defile another one and spray it black ??
Yes the escort does suit brown but its just not the colour for me.
No thanks on that offer, now that i've got one i'm gunna keep it !

poo pooe, that could have been nasty! Bugger. [:0]

Time for a laminated screen I think.

I had plans to change the colour of mine too but it's grown on me so have decided to leave it brown. It's a good '70's colour after all. [88]

HYPO4D
I have had it replaced with a new laminated screen today with a new rubber too. It looks so good it feels like there is no screen there at all. Found a tiny bit of rust on top left corner of screen but nothing to worry about just yet.
As for the colour, it has grown on me lately so not too keen on taking it off the road as a project at this stage just to paint it, I want to cruise around in it a bit first.
Black would be nice but a bit too hard to keep clean and straight.

that or a small rock hit the screen near the right hand wiper [88]

No it wasn't a rock, nor was it my head. I drove it along a farm track after it had been sitting all day at work on a 36 degree day, when it got a bit of body flex and the glass just exploded, the window did get hit with a stone in that area about 2 months back tho but couldn't see any damage then.

Mark, I have taken it on 3 X 280km return trips down to the Great Ocean Road now and it hasn't missed a beat, runs really well along the freeway and is a pleasure to drive. just a few teething problems I had to overcome but now all is sweet as, so no yellow paint for me!
Still having dramas with vicroads trying to get the roadworthy sorted,

I stayed the night in a motel and it was replaced the next day. O'Briens had a windscreen in stock but had to wait for a rubber to get couried down from Sydney overnight.

Its been a while but car is now ready for inspection and registration.
I still have to swap rims over before I take it in, these ones feel a lot better to drive on than the standard 12" rims.

Sweet, congratulations.
I knew you would like running the 15 inch wheels on it.
I nearly got blown off the M1 one time with the stock wheels.

How unlucky am I ? ... first the front screen ... now the rear !

My wife was mowing the nature strip in front of our place and the mower picked up a stone flicking it into the garage.

I am grateful for her doing the lawn and saving me a job but it just topped off an already crap day !!

The stone managed to make it through a gap underneath the open boot hitting the rear screen, shattering it, into a thousand pieces !

That really sucks, sorry to hear that, but I think I would prefer the stone going in to the glass over hitting paint.

sorry to hear about the window, what are the chances of it going through that gap?

The original owner bought the MK1 from new.
He use it for 20 years till the eldest daughter used it for her first car.
She was murdered, and the car was kept in her memory.
The old boyfriend was a spray painter and did the rust and paint around 1995. the inside of the drivers door was left on purpose.

I waited 5-6 years for that car. and the only reason i ended up with it was my sisters father in law did all the maintenance on it.

It had to go to someone that would appreciate it and looked after it. It's in safer hands now. so i thought[:x)]

Don't be surprised if you find rust around the rear screen.

You know who to call when you get sick of it.Please!
I miss driving it.

The bonnet is off so I can get in to replace the water pump and have a bit of a tidy up.

Is that the man himself Mark ?
Is this pic when you took possession of the car, she looks very shiny ?
That is a sad story about his daughter, It must have been hard for him to sell it.
What was the purpose for leaving the inside drivers door ?

Yes it is in safe hands now [:x)]

I have removed the broken rear screen yesterday as I found a replacement item and sourced a new rubber and locking strip too.

There was no rust around the edge of rear windscreen hole at all. Happy about that
When we replaced the front screen there was a little bit up on the top of passengers side, but nothing major, the O'Briens guys fixed it before the installation.

She is like another child and wont be ever getting sick of it, so I couldn't sell it.
I love driving it !
