MK1 Escort Project

Hi all,
Just thought I'd show you my MK1 Escort 2 door. This is a long term project (6 years and counting). The first 2 pics of it are from about 3 years ago when I got it out of storage ( a few friends had been looking after it for the past 3 years which is why it is so dirty).

These are the current pics of it. I'm just starting to do the body work now after stripping it to an almost bare shell. I started to dummy fit the cage to see where it goes and if anything needed to be modified:

Needs a bit of work but the shell is almost rust free apart from the r/h/r wheel arch and spare wheel well. Still not sure what colour to paint it though.

I hope when my Mk1 project reaches the 6 year mark (not that far off) it is at that point of restoration.

So what are you planning to use it for?

Cages arent typically an issue for club level events like supersprints and motorkhana's...as long as its safe your pretty right Best to speak to the club you'll be running with,I know NSWRRC are happy to allow alloy cages in club events[;^)]

BTW nice poject, looks like a good shell to start with[%]

Hi guys, Thanks for the input. I now about the cams issues with roll cages and after being quoted between $2500-$3500 to have a cams approved cage put in I thought I would get the alloy one to start with. It actually goes through the parcel shelf and mounts to the rear chassis rails. For club events it is perfect and legal and I would prefer to have it on those days than nothing at all.
I'm just building it as a fun club car. Was going to go all out with it but since I purchased it I bought a house, got married and had a daughter (and not in that order either) so the outlook changed according to the finances and the time. My wife is very supportive though as I told her when we met that the car is part of the deal. She even had the garage built for me/Escort as a present when we bought the house! So the money I was going to use on the car went into the garage, but at least it has somewhere to live now.

bubba,

and after almost 2 years, nothing has changed except the position of the car in the shed!! All my time and money has gone on the TX3! Hopefully that will soon be rectified, but with our second 2 legged terror about to arrive, I might have to wait a little while again! Hopefully not as long as last time. Got any pics of your 2 beasts?
