Don't forget to include ALL the original codes from you compliance plate along with the SIDO number please.

SIDO - Single Item Dealer Order (6 figues).

The SIDO number can be termed to be like a reciept given from the Ford factory to the dealer that their order has been recieved. This number is then stamped onto the car so the factory can alocate it correctly.

Supplying this number will provide a time line for the production of the RS2000 and where each car fits in.

That register looks great. Are you going to place the cars in some sort of build order? eg. using the build date?

As MAXRS said "RS2000 city"

That WAS the original plan but unfortunately I cannot figure how to get Dreamweaver to sort in "date" order as the only formats are numerical and alphabetical...? [:(!]

Anyone got any ideas?

And may I advise everyone to remove some of their engine and body numbers, they can be used by those that are... let's say... dodgy.

I have not used the chassis number on the register for that reason and for the peaece of mind of the owner. I have only used the chassis prefix.

Thanks for adding your RS and I will update the site ASAP.

This is our latest addition. A yellow 4 door that will undergo some restoration shortly. Other than lowered Bilstein suspension & retrimmed interior with that black fabric that everyone seems to use when retrimming these it is very original. OK, all fixed!

Please post or email any new images if you want me to update your car on the site.

Also, if some of you are interested in producing some text or build images I'm considering linking to seperate pages on each car. Maybe a basic write up of the history etc might be a good start.

Paul, thanks for your efforts on this project. Its come up a real treat.. And aside from interest value to the enthusiast. I have to believe that one day in the future, having your RS on this list will improve its value, or at the very least confirm to a potential buyer that it is indeed genuine by the numbers.

Thanks also to the guy who first posted about the idea. You kicked off something really cool.

If anyone has one, or know someone who has an RS thats not on the list.. Give em the heads up about it.

Just another suggestion.........

Maybe as an interim I can maybe have the specs of the cars displayed when you hover over the image etc. Not exactly sure what's involved but I'm sure i'll figure something out to that effect. Failing that I will add it to the current format.

If you're interested just either email or update your original post (favoured option) on this topic with the information you want displayed.

I am a newbee to the Classic Ford forum.
So a *BIG* hello to all!

The Mk 2 RS2000 Register and database is a wonderful idea.
I have an absolute priority to Register our two RS,s.

I am wondering if the concept could be taken one step further, if not already thought of.
Because the Register is a database of existing owners and vehicles, how about expanding this to *previous* owners of each vehicle.
The value of these enthusiast/collectors cars is most certainly in their histories, as well as the car's current condition.

As the years roll on each vehicle's history and owner's personal memories will become more and more important to the value of each car. Because of the strong number of surviving vehicles and the enthusiasm/efforts to maintain them many of these cars will survive many years to come, if not indefintiely.

We have very recently bought our second RS and would love to find previous owners and histories etc. (I still own my first RS I purchased brand new on May 9, 1980, with all docs etc held in safe keeping).
ta, PeterM.

Hi peter and a "BIG" welcome

Feel free to submit information and images and I will add them to the growing list or cars - I'm especially interested in your one owner example [:u]

My intension is to expand the register and maybe include a little history etc of each car but as I'm a "web design" novice it's a slow and tedious process unfortunately. Thank god for Dreamweaver

Hi Paul,
I have all of the documentation together for both RS's ready to submit to the Register in the near future.
The first RS is currently in storage (since 1990) so I will take a new photo of this for the Register. This car is (and has always been) very significant to me. It was bought for for me by my father when I had just turned 17 years old. It was the very first car in our family and was a very large outlay for a middle class family. I rolled (partly flipped) the car on Boxing Day 1981 when it was just 18 months old, on a road I had been driving for years previously. I was not speeding, or being an idiot. The car had 17,156 km on the clock. Immediately, as an insurance write off (I was then 19 years old, and with no experiance and no direct assistance from other's) stripped and rebuilt the car completely from literally the floorpan upwards with all brand new panels and parts. I learned how to grind, weld, straighten, panel beat, paint and spray paint, assemble and to improve, all under the family front yard carport.
In 1985/6 I developed a 2 litre (not the original engine!) to 2.45 litres with a hand made high tensile steel crank and rods with Switzer turbo. Fortunately I realised the future value of these cars and I had a policy of absolutely no modifications to the original vehicle panel work.
Currently the car has a genuine 44,446 km and is in immaculate and as original condition inside and out, with matching numbers and with all documentation, even the original sales deposit receipt for $50-00 to buy the car. Unfortunately my father is no longer with us to still see the car.
After a long hiatus (20+ years) I have recently got the bug to do something with the RS's again. Several weeks ago over Easter my better half and I purchased a second RS in perfect working order. Immediately stripped, (the better half did not get a chance to ride in it!) the bodyshell is currently on a rack/spit being totally restored from bare body shell up. Keeping busy at this end!

If you would like some assistance with the Register then maybe we can help. We have IT experience and the Register may be a good project to become involved with as time permits. Can discuss more if you wish.

ta, PeterM

Hello Glenn,
Thanks for your message. The "master plan" is to have the second RS completed and registered ready for the RS Owners Show and Shine day at Parramatta in November. I say "master plan" - as you well know reality may intervene!

Has anyone tried to find the history of their car - ie tried to find past owners and the original selling dealer?
I notice that Paul has mentioned the vehicle SIDO number (this thread date 18/4/08), however can this be traced back to the original selling dealer? Records at Ford MO CO seem to be scattered and often non existant.

Hello RS027,
Thanks for your thoughts. The 4 door RS consumed a large part of my late teens and early 20's. There are lot's of great memories and lot's of hard work to get the car back to top condition after the accident. In all the years I have never considered selling her.

Hello Master Avon,
Yes, the RS 2 door is in extremely good condition when we bought it over Easter (from a forum member). A big credit to the past owners! I was concerned about the mechanical safety and reliability of the car considering it is 30 years old and had an unknown number of owners, and an unknown history. The project started as a small check over, however it has sort of escalated into a full resto (I get bored easily and love to pull things apart). The goal is to improve and preserve to help guarrantee the car's future.

Hello Master Sundowner,
.....but who owns the Escort panel van.......I do!! [88]

Hello Administrator Sean and SaggaRS,
I bought the tee-shirt in mid 1980 from one of the shops in Westfield Parramatta NSW. The shops had iron-on transfers that you could choose from a catalogue and also select the tee-shirt. They would iron them on. The shops were once popular but don't know if they still exist anywhere, but I suppose they do.

ta, Peter.

Hello All,
Just wondering about the 6 digit SIDO number appearing on the compliance plate of the Escorts. I understand that the SIDO number was an identification number chosen by Ford on receipt of an order from the dealer. Would this mean that the original selling dealer can be identified by this number? Does anyone know about this??

Hi SaggaRS,
The white 4 door is residing in the corner at the moment, well for the past 18 years. I will take some photos very soon and post them.

Hi Bodie,
We have just about completed your time machine, but with just one mod. We want to go back to 1980 and 1981 (not 1982) so we can buy up every RS2000 and all Escort spare parts that Ford have in captivity......Oh, I expect to back in 1981 in a week or two so we can also find an abundance of the RS2000 tee shirts for you.(very soon).

I love these cars,Ive got to ask a question to the gurus here.

have a look in the register both Sean and myself own the only 2 door original autos on the register, its got me thinking does any one ctually know how many autos were sold, from my research not many and i believe there cars are fairly rare.

any one have more info on any other RS autos 4 doors or 2.

from a drivers car point of veiw it does nothing for me but just the to have an aussie only RS auto that is fairly uncommon is cool.

i want to get an auto and fit it one day just for kicks

While we're at it - is there a summary of RS2000's produced according to the month, the colour, 2/4 Door etc?

We can proably start to collate this according to the Serial No (would be in numeric order with the lower number produced earlier.

This is going down the road of a lot of 'registers' where you can start to identify cars that were produced first/last up, rarity in terms of colur (ie: 5? silver ones) or transmission. All in the name of vanity and potentially increasing the value of cars that are 'special'.

Whilst not in the same league - Aust Muscle Car had a similar listing of all the RPO 83's (XA GT) when they did a feature article on the car.

2008/03/10 20:18:00
PeterM
I was hoping that someone would eventually open this discussion.

Currently I don't think this info has been made openly available for the Escorts from one single source/database. Obviously the Falcons are fairly well documented. Both the Falcons and the Escorts were obviously manufactured by the same company, so the process and info must be available.

FoMoCo definitely has reliable records available to the current owner of a particular vehicle and is more than willing to provide an "Old Vehicle Report" in the form of a letter on Ford letterhead. Whether or not Ford has the ability, or wish, to compile all of the info and make available to public is another matter.

Don't forget that the date stamped on the compliance plate is actually the retail date, not the manufacture date. I understand that these cars were built in batches. The car may have been manufactured and held in storage on "The Hill" out the back of the manufacturing plant at Homebush in Sydney for several months prior to the car being ordered by the dealer and the compliance plate then being stamped and fitted prior delivery to the dealer.

I understand that there were only 2 or 3 auto RS Escorts ever manufactured.

2008/05/10 21:05:46
Dave
yeh, thats good news (for me),as for ford verification I have a letter from ford regarding my RS however they couldnt/wouldn't tell me how many RS autos were manufactured.

The email is below

Hi Jimmy,

This is good news.

Interesting, I always thought that the sports alloy road wheels were a dealer option, not a Ford option.

My recent detective work with the original selling dealer of our car was that they did not keep permanent records over 7 years. So 29 years later would be a big ask.

Details of the original owner is really a big ask. This crappy socialist country has strict non-disclosure laws which make it almost impossible to find the original owner, either through the original selling dealer, or the RTA, or any government agency. Best to ask the guy you've bought the car from and chase back to the previous owners as far as you can. Car clubs will also be a good source of this type of information.

Thanks guys. I only just got it a few days ago. Been looking for a project for awhile but then found this semi done car, just had to stick a new head unit today and after doing all that found the cable pulls the power out on the indicators. So no music for awhile... Jase i got it off some guy who was selling it. Dont even know his name. But hey all good.

I wondered if any were fitted with A/C from factory - I guess I can start hunting down a full factory set up to retofit into the RS.
By the way she is a 1980 4door Midnight Blue I have owned since 1990 - will post up details and photos of the girl soon.

Handy way to check Build vs Compliance date; fifth letter in VIN is Year, sixth is month - VIN is allocated on the production line.....

Thanks to Paul I have grabbed a copy of the register off him and it is now here www.rs2000.com.au also at the existing link.

It has however ended up in the projects pile [88] i was looking at remaking the site and doing a few other things, information, @rs2000.com.au email addresses etc etc

Until I get more time it will stay like that. Unless there is any web designers around?
