Sorry to hear about the daily Marty, hope it repairable. They're starting to get to that stage where I'm seeing alot around with P-plates attached and snap crackle and pop tunes that are starting to get tired. Much the way I remember the Escorts going before they started disappearing from the roads. Worth saving, when the young guys start to get nostalgic later in life, like us now, they'll be fighting over the survivors.

Yes, they are getting thin in the ground and prices aren't dropping as the rarity is starting to creep in. I reckon mine will be saved as no significant damage was sustained. I'm driving my silver mk1 Focus ST170 clone (minus the engine)and it's so much fun to drive. I remember when mk1 and mk2 escorts weren't worth 3 months rego or the battery under the bonnet, so many ended in wreckers because of that. Also remember pulling a mk2 from a wrecker for only $90 back in 1998, later finding it was a one of those mega rare Escapees after rubbing back the green resprayed top coat and finding the faded remnants of the red and yellow stripes along the flanks.
Back to the present day, I managed to get the drain tubes connected to the sunroof front outlets, running them down the pillars and drilled a hole just in front of the door hinge strength plates, I bought connectors for an Audi sunroof drain at the sills, sort of a glorified grommet. I still need to plumb in the rear pipes and holesaw the inner C pillar for the path the pipe needs to drain without sharp corners. At the bottom end of the pipe I'll run them out at the front side of the rear inner wheel tub, if that makes sense, there'll be less stones/water/mud etc to cause blockages. Think it's time to design tpu grommets to stop the tubes getting rubbed and tearing.

Just a speedy update on the calipers and sunroof.. The calipers recently have pads now so I can get them adapted when I find a minute spare The sunroof is almost set with the drain pipes when I can then get into another job. The front pipes are all installed but still need to complete the rear pipes Front tubes go thru the roof inner frame and down the pillar Rear is till a work in progress as I need to make sure it's nicely flowing and also hidden as best as possible before the lining goes in..

Spent a little bit more time on the car this rvo doing the sunroof pipes to complete that job. This is the little outlet I was talking about last time This pic is where the front pipes exit The rear pipe goes down inside the C pillar to the front of the rear wheel tub as seen here I had these new door light/courtesy buttons from some eBay store, and luckily the pillar hole was the right size and all I needed to do was drill a hole for the mounting screw

More progress on the mk1 this morn, I found the wiper assy , not sure if it's the one for the car as the wires aren't melted from the fire but there's black residue/soot on the rods, anyways it's a 2 speed veriety and I tested it for working and loose rods but all seems fine so in it went. To install it I needed to remove the steering support plate as the arms sit up behind it. Not a biggie though it gave me the reason to remove the speed clip and install a m6 rivnut. Also there was no seals for the body panels so I printed some up in tpu so I hope it's water tight now. Deano out anyone else if you want the file let me know. This is the inside view with the gasket in place And the mounting I've also started to install the central locking solenoids and will upload this soon

I think deano asked about this central locking solenoid mounts, well it's pretty easy. First thing to do is use masking tape as a template by laying it across the 2x screw holes on the solenoid then mark holes, take tape off and stick to the door as close to how mine looks, it's the best spot as the rod can be vertical to be connected to the inside locking rod. Once the wires are all connected to the control box I'll show how to wire that up as well, mine is remote so a key isn't needed but I always have 1 door with the key just in case of flat battery etc..

Good morning viewer I had found a few control boxes for the central locking, infact I have 5x of them, maybe got them on a bundle deal a long time ago. So on to the wiring method I have worked out is a bit strange but works perfectly fine This is the way I've worked out the wiring map, the red power wire is bridged to the 2x yellow wires like this Black/ground wire is bridged to the 2x orange wires The solenoid wires are then the 2x white wires so simply join the two solenoid wires to these two and bridge for the other side/ and rear for those with a more door. The extra wires are optionals , the two browns are for indicators to flash when lock unlock , the blue is boot release and the green is to wind up electric windows tho I'll see if will work on my sunroof , will see if it's compatible. I'll draw a proper diagram for future reference

Still haven't got the wiring map done but no-one is asking so......
Other work on the MK1 , the window winders were a bit sloppy as in the handle flopped about before the windows moved. Noticed that MK2 van has the same window crank mechanisms but with the spline instead of the square which means I can use MK2 handles or early Falcon and TC+ Cortina ones, I'm planning to use Falcon xa ones as have them on the shelf. A bit of miss match but that's the fun of this build.
The MK2 Rally Pack is also being assembled and checked. Up to the roof lining in a couple of weeks then we can fit the screens and then it'll be all closed up.

An Escort that remotely closes or opens all windows, and sunroof will be pretty cool at a car show. Then take it further with the under floor boot release, with gas lifting struts too of course. Hey, if Dr Who can have doik doik rematore on the Tardis, MK1 Escort should be fair game.

C'mon Deano, that's a dream we all might want haha, not sure how far the $14 remote box can be pushed tho. Your saying end of month to slap our cars together, I'll just install the windscreen seals to the car without glass to add to the effect, shame I hadn't gotten to the stripes part but if Drewdogs link is a goer I'll start with a link to this page/project so whoever reads can see from the start ( that's if this forum doesn't get fully shut down and becomes an ERROR 404 search.. ) Most of my car building history is in here so hope it stays 'alive' for future humans to see. Getting back to my project I just received a second set of handbrake cables, these are universal, like hotrod and disc conversions etc, cut them to length and enjoy.. the kit can cost up to $120 or more, I paid a monstrous $38 Inc post, the only difference I seen after a long search and inspect is the packet and price. Pics of it still in the bag .. I seen this kit on Glenn's Shed last week but he's got wilwood 4 pots on the back, his kit came from UK so the price could've been out of control !
