Rear wheel bearing location in diff housing sandblasted and rough

Rear wheel bearing location in diff housing sandblasted and rough

Calling thinkers - obscure issue below.
 
Iv'e had my mk2 escort diff housing sand blasted.
The guy blasted inside the housing where the outer of the rear wheel bearings locate. It is very rough (as expected if sand blasted).
 
Is there any reason to get it smoothed out?
Will the o ring around the bearing tear and if it tears will it be a big issue (can it be sealed with silicone?)?
Will the rough surface affect the bearing?
If it's polished smooth whats the thoughts on if the bearing will still locate and fit correctly?

    Really shouldn't matter as long as it's an interference fit. You could try bearing retainer from places like loctite that fill any voids. A bit of grease will protect the o ring on install. If you take any more out by smoothing it you could have much greater issues.

    Wouldn't have thought it would be an issue. I normally make up rough cover plates and install old bolts to protect these areas. When you put it back together slide the o-ring off, poke the axle and bearing through the cover plate for the brake drum then slip it back on. Its a tight fit and the backing plate can pinch or cut the seal...

    If it's rough enough for burrs, a bit of light emery just to clean it up. Otherwise a bit of lube on the o ring on the bearing to ease it into place.  If you are using the fully sealed bearings then getting a leak is very unlikely. Len

    going to use fine emery to smooth it and I always grease o rings anyway.
