Can anyone identify this???

Hi everyone, looking at this Little Ripper pic and noticed next to the lighter there is another switch. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks

What do you mean by driving lights?

This where they put the driving light switch, the switch is the same as what was fitted to MK2 GT Cortinas and XW GT Falcons. The driving lights were fitted into the grill. As what are seen on some twin cams, GS Packs and the Little Ripper. You can see pics on adds for these versions and Escort Accessories booklets.

Thanks. It's funny how the picture has the switch but doesn't have any driving lights shown or were they behind the grill?

Escort parts list shows Little Ripper Vans were sold 1975.
I have not owned an Escort for many years but my memory says all later Mk1's were fitted with a brake warning switch and the warning lamp was beside the cigarette lighter.

What were the brake warning switch and warning lamps used for?

Attached is a scan of the later Mk1 Escort braking system showing the "Brake pressure differential valve and switch".
If there is failure in either the front or rear brakes the piston within the pressure differential valve moves from its normal central position to either end of the unit operating the electrical switch which in turn lights the warning lamp in the car.
Also attached is a scan of the fascia panel showing two round holes one for the cigarette lighter and the other I believe for the brake failure warning light.

I can't remember a brake warning light on the wood grain panel, which doesn't mean there wasn't but I thought it was in the dash. There was a seat belt warning light in the wood grain section towards the end of the MK1 Escort. In the Little Ripper add you can see it is a toggle switch, if you took this picture from the Ford Escort Downunder book there is a picture of the driving lights under it.

I have never seen any brake warning lights of anything like it on the Aussie Escorts. I've seen a few pics of English Escorts with them. I knew there as a seat belt light but that was between the air vent adjusters and the dash cluster.

My Aus Mk2 has a brake fail light, with a handbrake light, under the dash to the right of the steering column.
I think all Mk2's are the same.
