RX8 6 Speed Gearbox instead of the Type 9

Has any one doe this conversion?  I was reading a thread on TurboSport  http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=500016 and a due is selling conversion plates on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Type-9-Conversion-Plate-RX8-Kitcar-Redtop-Cosworth-Zetec-Mk-1-Mk2-Escort-Capri/391210166495?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D444000%26algo%3DSOI.DEFAULT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140221143856%26meid%3De91a89a21dcb49a582bfa409441e062a%26pid%3D100012%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D3%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D391103715185 for $150 GBP.

They use the same input shaft as a type 9 and 4 Speed so you can keep the Pinto clutch etc but need to convert to hydraulic.

RX8 G/b's seem to be around $800 so cheaper then a type nine and better ratios and extra gear.  You'd need a bigger tunnel though.

Be keen to get peoples thoughts.  Not looking to do it but maybe in the future.

Cheers

Matt

Good concept, especially to get something so modern at reasonable cost. If the hydraulics can be retained from the donor car could be not too bad to re-configure.

I've been following that thread for a while now. And glad someone has done it.
The price of type 9 boxes are just going up and up, for what really is still just an average to ok box. Perfectly fine for your average escort motor though.

Im trying to get my old man to do this conversion to a 1600 kent engine.

For those interested i believe the rx7/8, s15, s2000 box kind of share the same box just with different configurations etc. and are a pretty decent box.

Been following the thread on TS as well. Looks like a good option.

Would you think the auto tunnel would be to small?
