Rear Leaf Springs Mk1 & Mk2 Escorts

I hear people say' to fit Mk2 springs in a Mk1, you have grind  down the end of the spring to fit the smaller anchor point.'
I am thinking of replacing the Mk1 front spring hanger with a Mk2 spring hanger,

What are your thoughts on this and has it been done?

Are the Mk2 Escort Springs the same length as Mk1 Escort?
In the Workshop Manual measurements , the panel van measures different, why is this ?

You dont have to grind the spring!!  I would never do this.  All you need to do is turn down the front bush to fit into the MK1 hanger.  My track car has been using this set up for 3 years and has completed 36 sprint events with no problem what so ever. Contrary to what some people seem to think the outer lip on the bush does not hold it in place.

You also need MK2 rear shackles

Completely disagree with the above statement. If poly bushes are used the outer lip of the bush in question controls the lateral movement of the unsprung assembly.
Did late mk1s have wider (mk2) springs from factory or are all mk1s the same?

According to Nolathane specs it states that both mk1 and mk2 bush kit have same crush tube length of 67mm .
    must be a typo?
    cheers

It is a typo. Late Mk1's have the same shocker set up as MK2 but the leafs are same as early Mk1
